1. Cat Flower Garden: Taipei, Taiwan<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cat Flower Garden is the first cat caf\u00e9 in the world. The owner had an idea where customers could enjoy a nice hot beverage and get in some much-needed quality cat time. When the caf\u00e9 first opened its doors in Taipei<\/a>, business was slow; people thought it was a weird concept. Fast forward 18 years and cat caf\u00e9s are more popular than ever. No entry fee, but there is a minimum consumptionamount that can be reached with a purchase of a coffee.<\/p>\n

The first cat caf\u00e9 in the U.S. opened its doors in Oakland<\/a> in October 2014 and has been finding homes for cats ever since. Not only is it a U.S. first, but it is also the ONLY non-profit cat caf\u00e9 in the United States. Cat Town\u00a0isn\u2019t justa place to come and have a coffee while playing with cats; these cats are up for adoption! 3. Catmosphere: Chiang Mai, Thailand<\/strong><\/p>\n

4. Neko no Jikan: Osaka, Japan<\/strong><\/p>\n

Japan\u2019s first cat caf\u00e9 opened in Osaka<\/a> in 2004 and there are now more than 150 cat caf\u00e9s nationwide. Cat caf\u00e9s are very popular in Japan due to no-pet policies in many apartments. If you\u2019re ever in Tokyo, you won\u2019t be far from a cat caf\u00e9; there are over 58 just in the city alone! 5. Caf\u00e9 Neko: Vienna, Austria<\/strong><\/p>\n

The world\u2019s first cat caf\u00e9 opened in Vienna<\/a> way back in 1912, according to local\u00a0legend\u00a0but closed\u00a02 years later. Fast forward to 2012 when Caf\u00e9 Neko, Europe’s first cat cafe, opened in Vienna. This cat caf\u00e9 always has five adoptable cats from a local animal shelter. Fun fact: Neko is\u00a0cat\u00a0in Japanese.<\/p>\n

6. Cats Republic: St. Petersburg, Russia\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Russia<\/a>\u2019s first cat caf\u00e9 opened in 2011 and is part of the Cat Museum. Approximately 30 cats call the Cats Republic home. Each customer must apply for a “visa” which can be obtained for a small fee(around $7). With a visa in hand, you are led by the “cat ambassador” to a room filled with cats, BUT\u00a0you can\u2019t enter until everyone in the group meows three times. Lady Dinah\u2019s Cat Emporium, which opened in 2014, is the first cat caf\u00e9 in London<\/a> \u00a0and the world\u2019s first crowd-funded cat caf\u00e9 (\u00a3100,000 was raised). In true London fashion, this caf\u00e9 offers a high tea session, which includes: 3 tiered\u00a0plates of goodies along with an hour of playtime with their famous residents.
