To add a little more incentive, sign up for a great destination<\/a> marathon taking place in a totally vacation-worthy setting that you’d always wanted to visit anyway.<\/p>\n

Elliot Bay, Seattle<\/p><\/div>\n

Rock \u2018N\u2019 Roll Seattle \u2013 Seattle, Washington<\/strong><\/p>\n

A member of the Rock \u2018N\u2019 Roll marathon series, this Seattle<\/a> race is a big hit for many runners. Scheduled for June 18, 2016, this is one of the earlier big races of the year and is outside the typical May and October\/November race schedule. Being in June, it\u2019s the perfect time to plan a few days to get away for a vacation.<\/p>\n

Can\u2019t miss sight:<\/strong> Pike Place Market is one of the oldest farmer\u2019s markets in the U.S. and one overlooks the Elliott Bay waterfront.<\/p>\n

Post race meal:<\/strong> While you\u2019re at the market, head over to Pike Place Chowder. Nothing beats the post race blues like a cup of hot soup.<\/p>\n

\"Southernmost

Southernmost Point Buoy, Key West<\/p><\/div>\n

Southernmost Marathon \u2013 Key West, Florida<\/strong><\/p>\n

This sunny race isn\u2019t until October 8, 2016, so you\u2019ll have plenty of time to train. Like the name implies, this is the furthest southyou can get in the continental U.S., and the course takes runners right by the landmark that says so. The Key West<\/a> heat might be more intense compared to what some participants will train in, but you can be sure a cold snap won\u2019t jeopardize your race day.<\/p>\n

Can\u2019t miss sight:<\/strong> Make sure either before or after the race, you stop for a photo at the southernmost landmark. Only 90 miles from Cuba and the race\u2019s namesake, you won\u2019t want to leave without this souvenir.<\/p>\n

Post race meal:<\/strong> Check out Eaton Street Seafood Market for a delicious lobster roll and a beer. The protein and the carbs will help with your recovery, and the tasty local fare is good for your soul.<\/p>\n

The Bean at Millennium Park, Chicago<\/p><\/div>\n

Bank of America Chicago Marathon \u2013 Chicago, Illinois<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Chicago Marathon takes runners through the city\u2019s diverse neighborhoods and offers amazing views of the skyline. While this is a race many runners have to qualify for, there is a lottery where first timers and non-elites can throw their name in the hat. If you are aiming for Chicago<\/a>‘s race, set for October 9, 2016, make sure you keep tabs on when you can register and when the lottery is. For the 2015 race only about 50 percent of those who entered the lottery got in, so just make sureyou have a backup plan.<\/p>\n

Can\u2019t miss sight:<\/strong> The race starts and ends near Millennium Park, so you\u2019ll definitely get the chance to see that. One thing you might not see unless you go out of your way is the Navy Pier right on Lake Michigan.<\/p>\n

Post race meal:<\/strong> If you\u2019ve been eating healthy leading up to the race, the best place to reward yourself is Portillo’s. This Illinois favorite has all the foods you\u2019ve been drooling over like hot dogs, burgers and most importantly, milkshakes.<\/p>\n

\"Mob

Mob Museum, Las Vegas<\/p><\/div>\n

Rock \u2018N\u2019 Roll Las Vegas \u2013 Las Vegas, Nevada<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another Rock\u2018N\u2019 Roll Marathon series race, but not your typical 26.2. This race, set for November 13, 2016, takes you through the heart of the city at night, so while you might not be out partying, you won\u2019t out on the sights and lights. In true Las Vegas<\/a> fashion, you can register to get married or renew your vows during the race in a three minute ceremony at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino.<\/p>\n

Can\u2019t miss sight:<\/strong> There is no shortage of attractions to visit before and after the race, but an offbeat place to hit is the Mob Museum.<\/p>\n

Post race refresh:<\/strong> Grab a bite at Eat. for breakfast the morning after the race. This fittingly named spot promises big portions and while it\u2019s nestled downtown a little off The Strip, it\u2019s worth the short drive.<\/p>\n

\"Diamond

Diamond Head, Honolulu, Hawaii<\/p><\/div>\n

Honolulu Marathon \u2013 Honolulu, Hawaii<\/strong><\/p>\n

This race isn\u2019t until December 11, 2016, so if you want to give yourself the most time possible to train, this would be a good option. The interesting thing about Honolulu<\/a>‘s race is that unlike many others, there is no cut off time \u2013 which means you can take as long as you need to run or walk it. Despite its remote location, this is one of the largest races in the U.S., and attracts about 30,000 runners a year. Whether you are training with friends or going solo, you\u2019ll have plenty of company.<\/p>\n

Can\u2019t miss sight:<\/strong> Check out Diamond Head Crater while you\u2019re on the island, a former volcano that has been dormant for thousands of years. Getting to the top requires some hiking however, so don\u2019t plan to go the day before the race.<\/p>\n

Post-race refresh:<\/strong> Head over to Roy\u2019s Waikiki, a downtown restaurant that mixes Hawaiian, American and Asian styles for a unique taste. This is to the island\u2019s major airport and Diamond Head Crater, so it should be a convenient stop.<\/p>\n
