Let’s start with a cliche: It\u2019s time to start thinking outside the box with your travel photos. We know you don’t want your vacation<\/a> pics to look like everyone else’s, so we’ve come up with a few clever spins on seven of the most tired and predictable stagings. Here they are, complete with tips on how to fix them.<\/p>\n

1. THE CLICHE:<\/b> \u201cI crush your head,\u201d a.k.a. the perspective trick. It\u2019s no longer clever to interact with a monument in the distance, like in the classic Pisa<\/a> pic below. Everyone does it.<\/p>\n

THE FIX: <\/b>Instead, take a photo like this image<\/a> by photographer Martin Parr of legions of tourists posing in the exact same way. It\u2019s funnier, and more refreshing.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> \u00a0THE CLICHE:<\/b> Your ugly feet…somewhere gorgeous.<\/p>\n

THE FIX:<\/b>Hey, your feet are ugly, my feet are ugly, everyone\u2019s feet are ugly. No one wants to see your feet. Instead take the same picture\u2014without your feet in it.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 THE CLICHE:<\/strong> The jumping picture. I have to admit\u2014this jumping picture looks pretty cool. Your jumping picture will never look this cool because you probably don’t have an advanced degree in Photoshop.<\/p>\n

THE FIX:<\/strong> If you still insist on taking a jumping picture, pick a spot with a simple, beautiful background. That means no castles, wrought iron fences, trees or busy street scenes. Also: Work that pose!<\/p>\n

4. THE CLICHE:<\/strong> Peace sign with duck face.<\/p>\n

THE FIX:<\/strong> The only way to fix this is not to do it.<\/p>\n

THE FIX:<\/strong> Copy photographer William Eggleston\u2019s image<\/a> and find something interesting in the foreground (like your fancy cocktail) to include in the photo. Amazing light helps too.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0THE CLICHE:<\/strong> Statue groping. What is it about life-size sculptural art that turns otherwise decent people into total weirdos? We\u2019ll never know. But let\u2019s keep it clean, people.<\/p>\n

THE FIX:<\/strong> Find a funny or\u00a0clever way to interact with the art: Use what\u2019s there and work with that, like this guy.<\/p>\n
