The infamous Route 66 traverses the state in the north, along with what is currently Interstate 40. Along it you\u2019ll find the Painted Desert and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/pefo\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Petrified Forest National Park<\/a>. Several interesting parks and monuments are clustered in this region, such as Walnut Creek, Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why go in winter<\/strong><br \/>\nArizona is a popular winter destination, with good reason. The desert climate of Central and Southern Arizona will have an average temperature ranging from 65F to 75F during the winter months (80F to 105F during the summer). Meanwhile, Northern Arizona has mountainous regions and snowfall and skiing in the winter\u2014with highs in the 40\u2019s. The South Rim of the Grand Canyon is open year-round, and winter is an especially good time to visit, with fewer crowds.
