1) Michael Jordan? Overrated.
\n<\/strong>You didn’t just say that. Now you’ll have to brace yourself as\u00a0the\u00a0Chicagoans<\/a>\u00a0in the room inundate you with a staggering list of accomplishments (10-time NBA scoring leader, 6-time NBA champion, 5-time MVP) that prove why His Royal Airness is the greatest player to ever grace the NBA hardwood. Not convinced? We\u2019ll just\u00a0leave this here<\/a>\u00a0and call it a day.<\/p>\n

2) How do I get to the Willis Tower?
\n<\/strong>Whachu talkin’ about, Willis? We\u2019re still smarting from the fact that this stunning edifice lost its title as the world\u2019s tallest building in 1996. And despite the fact that the burly building \u201cofficially\u201d changed its name from the Sears Tower to the Willis Tower in 2009, we\u2019ll shrug our big shoulders and keep walking if you refer to it this way.<\/p>\n

3) I like your accent.
\n<\/strong>We don\u2019t have an accent. YOU have an accent.<\/p>\n

4) The 2007 New England Patriots could have taken the \u201985 Bears.
\n<\/strong>A hushed silence just enveloped the room. Now you’re in for it because the Bears have achieved immortal status in Chicago\u2014and rightfully so. The \u201985 team had one of the most ferocious defenses in NFL history, a phenomenal offense, and an array of unforgettable characters, including Walter Payton, Jim McMahon, Refrigerator Perry and Da Coach himself, Mike Ditka (cross yourself and genuflect).<\/p>\n

5) Chicago\u2019s architecture? Meh.
\n<\/strong>Two words: Look up. Sure, Chicago boasts buildings designed by a veritable who\u2019s who of architects, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan and Mies Van Der Rohe. But our fair city also features work by some top contemporary architects, including Frank Gehry\u2019s stunning bandshell in Millennium Park and Jeanne Gang\u2019s bold Aqua highrise near the lake. That\u2019s what.<\/p>\n

6) To a Sox fan: Not too many people go to Sox games, huh?
\n<\/strong>That old Journey song that triumphantly ushered the 2005 Sox to the World Series? It’s up there with the national anthem in this town. True, Sox fans may not havepacked U.S. Cellular Field to the rafters lately (1.7 million fans visited the park in 2014, which was 28th out of 30 in the major leagues). But a real Sox booster knows that what the fans lack in numbers they more than make up for in passion. Plus: 2005, people.<\/p>\n

7) To a Cubs fan: You guys are never going to win it all.
\n<\/strong>How do you like us now? Okay, so the Cubs<\/a>\u00a0hadn\u2019t won a\u00a0World Series since 1908, but that just makes our recent victory even sweeter. As it turns out, “next year” was truly this year,<\/em> and the team’s roster\u00a0of talented young players could mean we have yet another shot next year. At least that’s what all those eternally optimistic Cubs fans are rooting for. Curse? What curse!<\/p>\n

8) Donald Trump put his name on the side of that building. So what?
\n<\/strong>Whether you love or hate this presidential candidate,\u00a0the\u00a0ostentatious outsider\u00a0had the audacity to put his name in gargantuan letters on the side of his building*, which is a true no-no in this town. It rankled us so much that Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed strict legislation regulating the size of signs along the river.<\/p>\n

*Credit where it\u2019s due: The building is kind of cool.<\/p>\n

9)\u00a0The only thing this\u00a0hot dog needs is a little ketchup.
\n<\/strong>Any Chicagoan worth her celery salt knows that hot dogs are meant to be adorned with anything and everything\u2014except<\/em>\u00a0ketchup. We\u2019ll allow the overly sweet condiment on fries or if you\u2019re under the age of, say, 14. Otherwise, you\u2019ll be the butt of our jokes.<\/p>\n

10) So you probably spend a lot of time at Navy Pier.
\n<\/strong>It\u2019s not that\u00a0Navy Pier<\/a>\u00a0is SO bad\u2014it\u2019s got a great IMAX theater, cool kid\u2019s museum, and a sweet fireworks show all summer long. Otherwise? It\u2019s a tourist trap with an odd collection of tchotchke shops, chain restaurants and T-shirt stores. Locals avoid it like the Kennedy at rush hour.<\/p>\n

ALSO:<\/a><\/strong> You know what’s\u00a0almost as rewarding as winning<\/a>\u00a0the World Series<\/a>?<\/a><\/p>\n

11) We need to get from O’Hare downtown in a flash. Better take a cab.
\n<\/strong>No, no, a hundred times no. Unless you love sitting in traffic and throwing $30 out the window, take a CTA train. Yes, you’ll have to check your seat for unidentifiable liquids before sitting down and, yes, prices continue to inch upward (now $5 from O\u2019Hare to downtown Chicago), but especially during rush hour, our El system is still the fastest, cheapest way to get downtown. Plus, we\u2019re sure you\u2019ll meet some\u00a0real\u00a0<\/em>interesting locals along the way.<\/p>\n

12) We just had the city\u2019s most amazing deep dish at Uno\u2019s Pizza!
\n<\/strong>Spend more than a couple weeks here and you\u2019ll quickly learn that the best deep dish\u2014which we Chicagoans rarely eat, but that\u2019s beside the point\u2014can be found at Lou Malnati\u2019s, Pizano\u2019s or Pequod\u2019s.<\/p>\n

13) Excuse me, how do I get to Paul-EE-na\/Day-MIEN\/GoaTEE Street?
\n<\/strong>Quick lesson:<\/p>\n

Paulina= Paul-eye-nuh
\nDamen = Dame-in
\nGoethe = Ger-tuh (yes, \u201cger-tuh,\u201d it\u2019s German)<\/p>\n

14) Chicago winters aren\u2019t\u00a0that<\/em>\u00a0bad.
\n<\/strong>You see us wearing ankle-length puffy coats and Uggs well into March. That’s not\u00a0because we think this is fashion forward. The winter of 2013\u201314 was, literally, one of the worst in Chicago’s history. And the thought of going through\u00a0another\u00a0polar vortex (just the name gives us chills) is enough to make us consider\u2014for a split second\u2014moving farther south. But this is our town and we’ll bravely endure it again, and again, and again. And we\u2019re tough as hell because of it.<\/p>\n

15) Chicago’s got nothing on New York.
\n<\/strong>Simply, inarguably, eternally FALSE.<\/p>\n
