And the annual <strong>Ponderosa Stomp<\/strong> in New Orleans does not disappoint. Now in its 11th edition, this celebration of old-school rhythm-and-blues, garage rock, swamp-a-billy and the all indefatigable syncopated hoodoo that abides in the Crescent City <strong>October 3-5<\/strong> is made all the better by its choice of venue: A bowling alley.<\/p>\n<p>The Mid-City Lanes, to be exact. No ordinary rock\u2019n\u2019bowl scene, the site is long fabled in the memory of righteous New Orleans Jazz Fest veterans, having been the backdrop for many a show over the decades. The festival is headlined by none other than Swamp Dogg\u2014aka Jerry Williams Jr.\u2013the 71-year-old soul music songwriter, producer and performer whose colorful stage name anticipated Snoop Doggy Dogg by several decades. This Dogg, a shameless humorist and raconteur, is notorious for outrageous albums from the 1960s and \u201870s that meshed adventurous grooves with swaggering social satire (\u201cTotal Destruction to Your Mind,\u201d \u201cRat On!\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>In keeping with its themeof \u201cthe best music you\u2019ve never heard of,\u201d the Stomp also features local favorites such as zydeco hero Lynn August and R&amp;B hellraiser James Alexander. Also notable are early \u201860s hitmaker Baby Washington, once a member of New York vocal groups like the Hearts and the Jaynetts, and Chitlin\u2019 Circuit warrior Sonny Green. Add performances from \u201860s garage legends The Standells, The Sonics and The Sloths and there\u2019s plenty to stomp about.\u00a0 The fest also features a sidebar music conference at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/hotel\/United_States--LA\/New_Orleans\/Wyndham_Riverfront_New_Orleans.h31470\/?keyword=%20wyndham%20%20riverfront%20%20new%20%20orleans&amp;WT.tsrc=ipw&amp;crid=34467834241&amp;WT.mc_ev=click&amp;mtn=b&amp;WT.srch=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wyndham Riverfront New Orleans<\/a>, where many of the musical guests will be interviewed.
