Traveling \u201cfar away\u201d in my own neighborhood is one of my favorite things to do. This week I went sailing — practically in my own backyard — without even having to book a San Francisco hotel<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I went out with OCSC<\/a><\/strong>, a San Francisco-based sailing club and charter company that offers classes, training and certification for nonprofessionals like me. If you are one of those people with sea water in your veins, this is a great way to sweat it out without breaking your bank on a boat slip.<\/p>\n

We set sail a short twenty minutes from the time I arrived at the dock, and Dave, my skipper for the afternoon, was showing me a view of San Francisco that most people never get to see.<\/p>\n

I looked off, taking in the quiet seascape of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance, the salty wind blowing my hair in my face. I noticed a boat 30 yards off practicing its \u201cman overboard\u201d drill that involved making figure eights around a bobbing jug of orange juice. I thought to myself: not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
