The Beach from Ipanema: Leblon Beach is one of the highlights of Rio.<\/p><\/div>\n

This week, the New York Times<\/em> reported that Discovery\u2019s expansion into Brazil<\/a> has unexpectedly catapulted TLC\u2019s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo<\/em>to major hit status in the South American country. While the arrival of the pint-sized Southern pageant queen might be a good reason to avoid Brazil, here are a few reasons to check it out, nonetheless.<\/p>\n

1. Rio\u2019s Ipanema neighborhood was forever immortalized by the global mid-60s hit \u201cThe Girl from Ipanema,\u201d a song made famous by Astrud and Jo\u00e3o Gilberto. It\u2019s now the second most recorded popular song in history.<\/p>\n

2. Sau Paulo, the world\u2019s eighth largest city with 11 million people, is considered the Pizza Capital of the World. Locals devour about 1.5 millions pies per day.<\/p>\n

3. Brazil\u2019s Amazon jungle has more biodiversity than any country\u2014including a third of the world\u2019s 300 monkey species.<\/p>\n

4. The ultra modern, sculpture-like buildings in the nation\u2019s capital Brasilia were designed by Oscar Niemeyer, a Rio native who is considered one of the world\u2019s most important modern architects.<\/p>\n

5. The bondhinho<\/em>, which snakes up through Rio\u2019s artsy Santa Teresa neighborhood, is the world\u2019s oldest operating electric tramway.<\/p>\n
