This time of year, South Padre Island turns into a party capital, as college students look to blow off steam in the Lone Star State\u2019s most pristine beach towns. But if you fall into that other camp \u2013 with young kids in tow \u2013 there\u2019s still no reason to bypass a Texas vacation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here are 3 options for some Texas-sized fun — at a pace families can enjoy.<\/p>\n

  1. Those other beaches: Corpus Christi and North Padre Island<\/strong>
    \nWith wonderful beaches and a manageable size, Corpus Christi is a magnet for low-key travelers. The state\u2019s two Six Flags amusement parks — Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and Six Flags over Texas in Arlington \u2013 have kept hearts thumping for years.\u00a0 In fact, the NEW Texas Giant at Six Flags over Texas was recently honored with the Golden Ticket Award for the Best New Ride of 2011 by top theme park experts and enthusiasts.<\/li>\n
  3. Nature exhibits
    \n<\/strong>When a zoo just isn\u2019t enough, head to the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch just north of San Antonio and the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, which is south of Fort Worth. Both offer unique experiences to get up close and personal with giraffes, zebras and other critters.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
