Come February, there\u2019s one more reason to leave your <a title=\"Cancun hotel\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/Cancun-Hotels.d179995.Travel-Guide-Hotels.hd30619\/\" target=\"_self\">Cancun hotel<\/a> and head to the town center and explore: the town\u2019s spirited, colorful carnival.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>February marks Cancun\u2019s version of the festival, a colorful parade of stilt walkers, scantily clad women, musicians and dance troupes with scores of performers. Think Mardi Gras but in Mexico (and, yes, beads have recently become popular). Carnival officially starts the week before Ash Wednesday, Feb. 15, and runs through Feb. 22.<\/p>\n<p>Expect the city-wide fete to take over the streets of downtown Cancun where as many locals as tourists get in on the fun. Beyond the marchers and dancers, there are concerts, exhibitions, and, of course, plenty of opportunities to sample the region\u2019s cuisine.<\/p>\n<p>But most importantly, the Cancun carnival is a good excuse for getting off the beach and leaving your cushy Cancun hotel (the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/Cancun-Hotels-The-Ritz-Carlton.h25978.Hotel-Information\">Ritz-Carlton Cancun<\/a> is a good choice) for a little bit of real Mexico spirit.
