I never get tired of meeting new visitors on the Strip. But one thing I do get tired of is people saying \u201cYa can\u2019t eat for cheap here anymore, that\u2019s for sure.\u201d Actually, it isn\u2019t. If you happen to be on a budget (who isn\u2019t these days?) or \u201cin between winning streaks,\u201d there are plenty of places in Las Vegas hotels to bite into something that won\u2019t bite you back. Chains and well-known fast food spots appear at almost all of the bigger resorts, but for almost the same price there are also several slightly more interesting options.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sandwiches and Salads<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If I had to make a first choice for quality\/value, it would be Earl of Sandwich<\/span> at Planet Hollywood<\/a>, which is something like a classier Quizno\u2019s — and a buck or two cheaper than the actual Quizno\u2019s on the Strip! The Earl makes toasted panini, wraps, salads to order, all for under $6<\/span> — and even has a good creamy tomato soup. Their \u201cultimate grilled cheese\u201d and roast beef\/turkey \u201cFull Montagu\u201d are both tasty\u2026 On a comparable note, MGM Grand<\/a> has Top Chef Tom Collichio\u2019s ‘wichcraft<\/span>, also offering multiple gourmet hot and cold sandwich<\/span> varieties from Sicilian tuna to roast pork (and even breakfast sandwiches all day)\u2026 Technically off the Strip (but monorail accessible), the Las Vegas Hilton<\/a>‘s Superbook Del<\/span>i<\/strong> is another good deal for solid simple food (hint: cheap eats are almost always near the casino sportsbooks)\u2026 at Bellagio<\/a>\u2019s Jean-Phillipe<\/span> and Caesars<\/a>\u2019 Payard<\/span> patisseries, both make several different savory crepes<\/span> to order for under $10\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Civilized Food Courts<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking of Caesars Palace<\/a>, their Cypress Street Marketplace
\n<\/span>offers hand-carved rotisserie sandwiches, BBQ, salads tossed to order, pizza, burgers, wraps and Chinese food<\/span>, in a pleasant, chain-brand-free atmosphere\u2026 At the Grand Canal<\/span> food court of the Venetian<\/a> are some of the\u00a0best deals<\/span> in deli sandwiches and burgers on the Strip, as well as Italian, Asian and Mexican options and high-quality chains Nathan\u2019s and Johnny Rockets\u2026 And the Monte Carlo<\/a>\u2019s food court includes a Rubio\u2019s grill, some of the best fast fresh Mexican<\/span> you\u2019ll find anywhere (along with a Subway, Sbarro\u2019s, McDonald\u2019s and Manchu Wok).<\/span><\/p>\n

Fremont Street and Off-Strip<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, if you go off-Strip, there are deals abounding, including downtown on Fremont Street<\/span> (grab the Deuce<\/span> bus from the Strip), on Boulder Highway<\/span>, and at other locals casinos\u2026 If you don\u2019t mind eating late, under-$5.00 “Graveyard<\/span>\u201d specials (typically offered between midnight and
\ndaybreak) can be found at Eastside Cannery<\/span>, Wild Wild West<\/a>, Terrible\u2019s<\/span>, South Point<\/a> (where they also have 75 cent hot dogs at the sportsbook!) and others\u2026\u00a0 Mr. Lucky\u2019s<\/span> at the Hard Rock Hotel<\/a> has a $9.95 all-u-can-eat prime rib deal after 4 PM\u2026While most bargain buffets<\/span> should be treated with skepticism (and watch this space for a full buffet review soon), two reliable choices in the cheap department are Palace Station<\/a> ($6.99 dinner with player\u2019s card) and Gold Coast<\/span> ($11.94 dinner with player\u2019s card).<\/span><\/p>\n

For A Few Dollars More<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re willing to splurge just a little, but are still
\nwatching your wallet, bar menu<\/span> and prix fixe<\/span> deals abound at fine restaurants up and down the Strip — particularly at MGM Grand\u2019s extensive array — as well as notable happy hour specials atSushiSamba<\/span> (Palazzo<\/a>), Charlie Palmer<\/span>\u00a0(Four Seasons<\/a>), Fleur De Lys<\/span> (Mandalay Bay<\/a>), among others. Cathouse<\/span> (Luxor<\/a>) also has a solid $40 dinner tasting menu, and Sensi<\/span> (Bellagio) has an elegant $26 lunch.<\/span><\/p>\n
