In the years since those frequent\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/PerformMDLPDealsContent?deal_id=orlando-vacations&amp;cnt=PKH&amp;sl_id=orlando&amp;sl_id=orlando\">Orlando vacations<\/a><\/strong>, Walt Disney World has revamped older properties and introduced many new options. As a mom, I\u2019m picky when it comes to finding the best\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/PerformMDLPDealsContent?deal_id=disney-vacations&amp;cnt=OVI&amp;sl_id=disney&amp;sl_id=disney\"> Disney hotels<\/a><\/strong>. Here\u2019s an insider&#8217;s guide to staying at a Disney resort property.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why stay at a Disney hotel?<\/strong><br \/>\nOn average, most of the Disney hotels are more expensive than the budget options located just off the Walt Disney World property. Why pay the extra price? First of all, each resort is heavily themed and super kid-friendly. They feature dining on site, elaborate swimming pools and familiar characters.<\/p>\n<p>The perks aren\u2019t just for the kids. I stay on site for the conveniences. The free transportation alone makes it worth it to me &#8212; Disney parking lots can get crowded, hot and expensive. In addition, resort guests can receive free airport transportation, extended park hours, package delivery and special-occasion voice mails from Disney characters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I decide where to stay?<\/strong><br \/>\nWalt Disney World Resort offers six types of hotels, with accommodations ranging from value hotel rooms to luxury villas. When choosing a Disney hotel, I consider the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How many are in my party?<\/li>\n<li>Do I prefer to be close to a specific park?<\/li>\n<li>Do I require extras like a full kitchen or multiple bedrooms?<\/li>\n<li>Do I want to be entertained on the resort property?<\/li>\n<li>What is my budget?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Based on this information, I decide between the value resorts, which are the cheapest and the more upscale options that include amenities like kitchens and suites. Keep in mind that when staying with a group, the suites and villas are generally the best value.<\/p>\n<p>My personal favorites are located within walking distance to\u00a0<strong>Epcot<\/strong>, allowing for convenient access to the little-known back entrance of that park. This location also provides ferry access to\u00a0<strong>Hollywood Studios<\/strong>. The Disney hotels in this area include\u00a0<a title=\"Disney's Beach Club Resort\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/Lake-Buena-Vista-Hotels.d10870.Travel-Guide-Hotels%27s_Beach_Club_Resort\/\" target=\"_self\">Disney\u2019s Beach Club Resort<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Disney's BoardWalk Inn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/Lake-Buena-Vista-Hotels.d10870.Travel-Guide-Hotels%27s_BoardWalk_Inn\/\" target=\"_self\">Disney\u2019s BoardWalk Inn<\/a> and the<a title=\"Walt Disney World Dolphin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/hotel\/United_States--FL\/Lake_Buena_Vista\/Walt_Disney_World_Dolphin\/\" target=\"_self\"> Walt Disney World Dolphin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s the difference between the resorts?<\/strong><br \/>\nEach Walt Disney World resort has a theme. The classic\u00a0<a title=\"Disney's Polynesian Resort\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/Lake-Buena-Vista-Hotels.d10870.Travel-Guide-Hotels%27s_Polynesian_Resort\/\" target=\"_self\">Polynesian Resort<\/a> is a great example. Located near the\u00a0<strong>Magic Kingdom<\/strong>, the Polynesianis considered one of the deluxe resorts. The South Pacific theme puts guests in the middle of an oasis with easy monorail access to Epcot, the Magic Kingdom and the transportation and ticket center.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the newest properties are located around\u00a0<strong>Animal Kingdom<\/strong>. The\u00a0<a title=\"Disney's Animal Kingdom Kidani Villas\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/Lake-Buena-Vista-Hotels.d10870.Travel-Guide-Hotels%27s_Animal_Kingdom_Kidani_Villas\/\" target=\"_self\">Animal Kingdom Kidani Villas<\/a> and<strong> <\/strong><a title=\"Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/Lake-Buena-Vista-Hotels.d10870.Travel-Guide-Hotels%27s_Animal_Kingdom_Lodge\/\" target=\"_self\">Animal Kingdom Lodge<\/a> are located amidst a wildlife preserve. A great deal of effort went into the decor and details of this property, from the service itself down to the hand-carved furnishings. I recommend these properties to guestswilling to splurge a little. For most people, waking up with a giraffe outside the window is worth it.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re staying with active kids and you want to spend a lot of time by the pool, the<a title=\"Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/Lake-Buena-Vista-Hotels.d10870.Travel-Guide-Hotels%27s_Caribbean_Beach_Resort\/\" target=\"_self\"> Caribbean Beach Resort<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Disney's Coronado Springs Resort\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/Lake-Buena-Vista-Hotels.d10870.Travel-Guide-Hotels%27s_Coronado_Springs_Resort\/\" target=\"_self\">Coronado Springs Resort<\/a> and <a title=\"Disney's Yacht Club Resort\" href=\"..\/..\/hotel\/United_States--FL\/Lake_Buena_Vista\/Disney%27s_Yacht_Club_Resort\/\" target=\"_self\">Yacht Club Resort<\/a> are great choices. I love the dining options at these properties, especially the all-you-can-eat seafood buffet at\u00a0Cape May Caf\u00e9 at the Yacht Club Resort.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disney hotel tips<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remember to make dinner reservations when you book your stay.<\/li>\n<li>Ask about the meal plan. This option often saves families a lot of money on food at the resorts and parks.<\/li>\n<li>Tell a cast member if you\u2019re celebrating a special event or birthday.<\/li>\n<li>Travel on weekdays for the best rates.<\/li>\n<li>Each resort comes to life around the holidays.
