Not too bad for China. It is quite “flash” but is an older hotel. The rooms are dated but seem clean. Hotel is not in centre of town, so walking around there is not much to see. We ate in the chinese restaurant and the food was ok, but could have been hotter.
This Hotel is luke warm at best, it's luke warm inside public areas due to poor air conditioning, and to top it off the shower is luke as well. This is a Crowne Plaza in name only. Another less the class act by IGH to franchise a brand to cash in and yet offer anything at all that one would expect from an actual Crowne Plaza. Limited menu and drink, options, hard and uncomfortable beds, crappy attitude from Hotel staff and 15 min to check out when we are the only people checking out. A complete joke and waste of time. Never again and IGH should be ashamed to have this hotel bear the Crowne Plaza name.
I stayed in this hotel because it was included in the package tour offered by my travel agent. The overall feeling was good but it is not in the down town that local restaurants and shops nearby were limited. I stayed two nights here, the second breakfast was bad because I was arranged to take it with other tours in a special designated room. Food was much worse and limited.
I stayed at Crowne Plaza for two nights on business. The hotel itself is a touch out-dates. At the lobby, it has beautiful ponds with fish however very little seating areas. Check in staffs were polite even though I was frustrated that they couldn't find my reservation. In terms for dining option around the hotel, there is only one restaurant across the road in walking distance. Breakfast was ok. I also tried their dim sum one day morning. Not the best but it's ok.
As usual with Chinese hotels which are in cities less frequented by Westerners, the prices are ridiculously low for the superb facilities offered. The "garden-style" lobby is jaw-dropping and the rooms are superb. The staff are as helpful as they can be but unfortunately very little, if any , English is spoken and this can create a significant problem for the Westerner traveler. The hotel is a short taxi ride from the airport. Apparently a new airport is in the process of being constructed.
I normally stay here on business trips to Zhanjiang. The rooms are ok, spacious and clean and everything works. It feels a bit tired, but overall nothing to complain about. The restaurant is ok, very Chinese, but what would you expect. There are a few shops on the ground floor but apart from that, there is nothing close by. The bar is basic in the cast foyer space and not much atmosphere and the tv is Chinese, no English speaking channels, but for short visits this is absolutely fine.
Stayed here during a Business trip. Great Staff and the rooms were spacious. Food is upto the mark. Great place to conduct meeting. Has a commercial center attached to the hotel. Location is also good while you have to take a cab to visit a Mall.
Long trip from UK so quite tired on arrival. 24 hour Room service was detailed in the room information pack but aparently for the week I was there he had gone home. Managed to get a bowl of some sort of soup but just could not face the grey liquid. The entrance lobby has one huge Koi pond and s quite impressive bt the whole feel of the place os like a shopping mall with rooms. Limited English spoken by the staff but then my Mandrin is not all that good. Two restaraunts but I only used the one on the second floor for breakfast and evening meals. This was a work trip so no sight seeing. There is a pool on the fith floor but it had a grey and brown film over the water so I gave that a miss. Obvious difficulties with internet connection out side of the country so suggest vpn. Odd hotel with nowhere to relax apart from your room. Most meals were limited in range but of good quality with breakfast being the best of the day. Lower floors have a range of retail outlets that cater for the better off. Not a tourist area as I found it and it but some i teresting restaraunts and local delicaies that I had to avoid, just my preference you understand. On the next visit I will venture further afield and perhaps opt for a non chain Hotel and go more Chinese traditional.
The most disturbing thing about this hotel is the overpowering stench of mold wherever you go. In the lobby in the room or wherever. Check in was a disaster the lady had a very basic English vocabulary and had no idea about the way a ihg platinum member should be treated The lobby is like any 3-4 star Chinese hotel. The bed was very HARD. the shower was just ok the furniture worn and old.
This is the best international hotel in Zhanjiang as of now, maybe until the Sheraton (which has been construction for years) will open. The rooms, the amenities and the massive lobby are impressive. They kind of messed up my reservation, which should have been the one with breakfast (they checked it again and called me that it has been fixed after an hour), and the English-speaking abilities of the staff can use some improvement. This is however, Zhanjiang, a third-tier city and the rates are pretty good, so it still exceeds expectations.
