We only stayed one night but it was so relaxing and lovely.
Amazing gardens surround historic ruins - rooms are in a modern building sloping toward the sea - Restaurant is like a treehouse, beautiful views, in a cozy open air bar and dining facility. Quiet, comfortable, secluded, lovely space to unwind. Close to the airport and Stone town - an oasis of quiet, save the tides.
This place is wonderful. From the minute you enter, it is magic. There are the ruins that the small hotel encircles. The rooms are incredibly comfortable. We had a giant balcony that was a nice addition. The restaurant is great. And . the beach is lovely. I can't say enough good things about the Protea/Marriott. It was great.
For the price, the hotel was as expected. If you are expecting a Marriott, it is not a Marriott. It was also difficult to get to and the hotel overcharges you to take a taxi to stone town. If you are expecting to be away from the noise of the city you won't find it here, while I was there kids played loud music on the beach all day and there was a loud party on Saturday night coming from the restaurant or neighboring building.
