We have visited the Mammoth area many times over the years but our recent stay at Tamarack was extra special with its beautiful peaks, pine trees, and picturesque location by Twin lakes. The snowy well kept grounds made for an exceptional vacation. The manager Brian took great care of us at check in choosing the perfect cabin for our family. We highly recommend staying at this lodge if you are looking for an authentic, quality, lodge experience. The lodge/hotel used quality crisp bedding and our kitchen was well equipped. Our cabin was small but clean and had a rustic style with a new electric stove that created a lovely ambiance that was conveniently controlled by a thermostat. We also enjoyed the continental breakfast in the main lobby which was served next to the fireplace. Note: The lodge included in our breakfast in the resort fee.
Stayed at the Tamarack Lodge for two nights in Cottage 27. So perfect! Small, quaint, quiet. Despite the size the cottage was well equipped. Very comfy bed. Gorgeous surroundings at the Lodge - walk the grounds and see the glory of nature! The main Lodge was also quaint and comfy and a nice quiet place for apres ski. Friendly staff and great service! One caution - the entrance to the main lodge can be treacherous during snowy icy weather.
I loved this place from the second we pulled up and parked. Tucked away just minutes from Canyon Lodge. You step out and are greeted by the lodge on one side and a river (still partially frozen over when we went) and sheer rock face on the other. The main building is cute and cozy, with a fireplace and bar. We were checked in by David Micon (I think one of the managers?). He was incredibly friendly and nice and bc it was a Sunday at the start of the slower season, he was able to get us an upgrade, which was unexpected but very much appreciated. We had a dog with us so we did a cabin (cabins are pet friendly). It was spacious and each has its own dedicated wifi router! Sure it's a little dated but that's part of the charm of a rustic cabin :) The restaurant at the lodge is impeccable, although $$$$. And you probably need reservations bc even on a Sunday night in the off season, almost every table was taken. Victor and Hayley were super friendly and easy to chat with while we waited to be seated. Food was amazing from the soup to the entrées. We can't wait to go back and do it again.
Tamarack Lodge is an amazing venue with picture views of Mammoth Mountain - it was an ideal base for a walk in the mountains or relaxing by the fire. The room theme was a beautiful ski lodge style which fits the setting. This Lodge was a highlight of our Californian road trip. Defiantly worth a visit.
We have been patrons of the Tamarack Lodge for over 20 years. We still love it, even though the lodge itself needs a bit of a facelift! We booked a cabin right by the trail across from the ski rental yurt ... fabulous. We will be back again, and again.
Cozy and comfortable cabins surrounding historic 1920s main lodge with intimate scale, fireside lounge and bar, and skilled and friendly staff. Had an excellent and innovative dinner in the lakeside dining room worthy of Bay Area restaurants. We were there during the late hiking and early skiing season, but will definitely return for summer fishing and bicycling. Very relaxing get away with lots of opportunities for outdoor beauty and fun!
I've stayed at this lodge for one night in January. And my credit card was charged twice for me, and another guest. So, I ended up paying $1380 over the amount I was supposed to be paying. And now my Credit Card company (Chase) trying to prove to the Lodge management that it was their fault. I find very disappointing that my memory about that nice facility is ruined by terrible customer service, or unprofessional front desk management.
If you want to enjoy the Sierra's (and not be surrounded by weekend/wacky/drinking party people who love to snow board), then book this traditional lodge. I've been coming here for 30 years, and Mammoth has changed tremendously. But Tamarack hasn't changed that much. This time I stayed in Cabin 37, which overlooks Twin Lakes and the Cross County Skiing path, and it was heaven. Wood burning fire. No planes. No noisy neighbors, just peace. We got snow! The staff was amazing... when we ran out of kindling, they brought it over. It's a wonderful place to be in the summer, and I love it in the summer as well.
Hiked around the lodge and grounds. Took a tour with a naturalist who lived in the area so was very knowlegable about the flora and fauna. He also stopped frequently for us having trouble with the altitude. Had drinks later in the lodge. Very cozy and inviting.
I celebrated my birthday in Mammoth last weekend, and Tamarack Resort was perfect! My husband and I enjoyed a darling 1-room cabin for 4 nights, nestled in the mountains by a gorgeous little lake. The location, 3-4 miles above town, was perfect for our taste. Close enough to hang out and grab a good meal, but secluded enough to have what felt like a true mountain getaway. The staff was truly a highlight of our stay. From Brian, Andrew, Cathleen, and Ben at front desk, to the female bar tender in the lodge, the service was amazing. Everyone was incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable of the area, and willing to help us organize transportation, points of interest, and suggestions for hiking and dining. They even left us something special in our room with a personal note wishing me happy birthday. They made our weekend truly special! The lodge was built in the 1920’s, so expect more of an authentic rustic mountain experience than a sleek modern feel. This was perfect for us! Quiet, relaxing, and welcoming. We’ll definitely be back!
