Except for some front desk staff, our stay was an enjoyable one. Located on Twin Lakes mammoth, the hotel has a good selection of amenities kayaks, row boats, etc., for the family to enjoy. Our studio cabin was clean, well appointed and recently upgraded. Other nearby guests were long-time repeat customers, which says quite a lot. Facilities are also dog friendly with exception of the lobby area in the lodge itself. Good summer jazz on weekends. Only downside was the welcome staff's unwillingness to cut us any slack on our reservation or directly answer questions about the forest fire that was raging several miles to the west and creating a smoky environment. When asked if they were amenable to a refund, should the fire come over the ridge towards the hotel, they ultimately said: "No". "Maybe you can get a refund from your credit card, but we won't refund your money if the fire comes towards us". Too bad an otherwise nice experience was tarnished by a surley staff member. On the up side, the manager did let us leave a day early on the condition that they were able to re-rent the cabin. In the end, we would probably come back, but ever so cautiously.
We booked a one bedroom deluxe cabin. It was very comfortable with a King bed, basic sofa and chairs in the livingroom and a kitchen with a table and bar stools. We had a nice front porch with wooden chairs. Bathroom was functional but basic. Cabin #36 is a bit close to the main road and across from a public outhouse, but it was not noisy. The complimentary continental breakfast was adequate but not special. We enjoyed our stay, but it was a bit expensive for what was offered. With all the fees, etc (including an $86 tourism fee), it cost about $375 a night for 2 nights.
This hotel is located in a beautiful setting. However, to justify the price, it is in need of renovations. In fact, we booked a room at the lodge -- there are also cabins -- but the carpets were being renovated and doors were off hinges. So, we were moved to a cabin. The cabin was somewhat cozy but the facilities are very old. Breakfast was included and was good. The staff were nice but seemed overworked given that the front desk also doubles as a boat/bike rental desk. Not unexpected was that the WiFi connection was minimally functional.
You can not go wrong by choosing this place. Beautiful location and excellent customer service . Whether you want to just relax explore and enjoy mammoth lakes this place is perfect. We stayed at the queen room which has an attach bathroom. All the staff whether it is David, Aura or Myless. This place also provide breakfast so you can start your day right. One suggestion if I can make is to add exhaust fan if possible in the bathroom. I will definitely stay there again.
Tamarack is a lodge, but also have several cabins on the property to rent. We had an awesome cabin (Cabin 10) with a large fireplace, deck to accommodate our 15 guests, large 1 bdrm/1 bath and spacious kitchen with everything you need to entertain -- it was perfect for our 4 day gathering. We were lucky to be able to make dinner reservations @ Lakefront restaurant for our large group and were greeted by a wonderful staff: Kelly, Tiffany and Chef Patrick! Dinner was delicious (so many options) and everyone really enjoyed the special evening. Although a small restaurant, they made room for our "wedding cake" that my sister made for us - that was really special. A special shout out to Matt, the lodge manager, and his staff for making sure we, our friends and family had everything they needed. They were awesome and we hope to return soon. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall this is a magical place. Visit soon ;-)
Great place to have a drink overlooking the lake. Reservations are best for dining. I stayed elsewhere but the next trip there will be staying at the lodge. Located up the mountain, amongst the trees. Easy access for hiking, biking, and close to the village.
Spent couple days in Mammoth Lakes, Tamarack Lodge is top notch. Little more on the expensive side but its hard to find cheap place in here. The Lodge is located right by beautiful Twin Lakes. Rooms and cabins are spacious and beautiful. Great service, friendly staff. They had piano guy playing every Friday and Saturday night during happy hour by the fireplace, so cozy and cute. Close to downtown and all hiking trails.
We again rented one of our favorite cabins, June 11-17, 2017. We've been coming up every year, for about the last 28 years, for fishing and just to enjoy nature. Both Matt and David at the front desk, were wonderful, which is part of what brings us back, year after year. David was especially helpful.. Continental breakfast is nice, in the main lodge, with a simple, but overall nice selection of breads, bagels, mini muffins, cold hard boiled eggs, fruit bowl, cereals, yogurt, coffee, juices. HINT... I LIKE TO CALL THE LODGE'S FRONT DESK DIRECT, TO GET THE BEST INFO, AND BOOK ONE OF OUR FAVORITE CABINS. I FIND THEM MUCH MORE HELPFUL, IN CHECKING FOR AVAILABILITY OF SPECIFIC CABINS, AND WITH CONDITIONS.. Mammoth Lakes was bombarded with snow this winter... All snow was cleared around the lodge and cabins, but the upper Twin Lake was only about 1/4 inaccessible on foot. All of the upper lakes were still closed to car traffic, but I believe were to open for traffic on the 18th of June or so. (campgrounds have suffered much damage / will need repair / replacemnt of picnic tables, signs, etc.) Unable to go to Devils Postpile this year, as the roads were closed just beyond the Ski lodge. Will most likely be closed several more weeks, due to heavy snow, and road repair / tree clearing... Just a guess.. Still all at Tamarack, was open... Lucky us.
Did not expect to be sharing a toilet with 4 other rooms! Did not expect there would be no tv except for one I had to carry to my room with some old DVD's ( think True Grit ) to my room. No room or place to set it except the bed. I didnt even check in, just left. If you want that, it is quaint, I just wanted a clean room with a toilet and tv news.
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. The manager checked us in and he was friendly, helpful, and he offered us complimentary coffee and cider. We stayed in the main lodge and opted for the shared bathroom; both the room and bathroom were extremely clean and well-kept. The location is beautiful; right outside the hotel there is a lake and walking trails. WiFi and breakfast are included in the room price. The breakfast selection was one of the best I've had, plenty to choose from and the lobby is very cozy. Dog friendly and reasonably priced for the area.
