The hotel building is beautiful, some great features and a ideal location from the centre. The service was very good, showing us to our room, which was handy as we definitely would have got lost. The room could have been lovely, but it was just a little tired. Whisky clean the paint was worn and some holes in the corners of the walls. A odd stain on the chair and some black marks on the walls. The bathroom could do with more attention, the white silicone was black in many places, grout between the floor tiles was missing in the door way and there was rust marks down the tiles from the soap dispenser. The bed was also not that comfortable and squeaked every time I moved. All the more disappointing as it is such an easy fix, but would have improved the feel of the room no end. The biggest issue was the train line though. There was no Aircon in our room, so we left the window open as even in January it was very warm, only to have the trains wake us both up. Probably wouldn't be an issue if there was Aircon in the room to control the temperature, then the window could be shut. We used the restaurant which was a grand room, but just lacked a bit of atmosphere. The food was lovely and very tasty, the service wasn't brilliant but acceptable. The lad on the bar was very helpful. Overall the place could be brilliant, just lacks in a few areas, which means we probably wouldn't risk coming back. The location, train aside, is perfect if only the room had a bit of basic maintenance.
