I've been here a few times to eat and all the meals have been good. Usually I eat in the bar area but I have also been through to the lovely restaurant room too. I've had a lovely roast dinner in there with excellent service. For the bar meals I've had the trio of sausages with delicious spring onion mash and gravy. I've also tried the homemade steak and ale pie with chips. Bar meals are all in the region of £13 and I'll be back to try some more. There is also a lovely beer garden out the back for summertime drinks.
Having just arrived in York me and my partner were looking for somewhere quick to eat maybe just some standard pub grub, we came across the lamb and lion inn, walking in it looks like a nice traditional pub, we went to the bar and ordered a couple of drinks and asked for some menus not realising there was a big write up of the menu on the wall next to us oooops! I decided to have the trio of sausages with spring onion mash and the other half had fish and chips, all I can say is WOW it's the best sausage and mash I've ever had and my partner said the same about his fish, his chips were amazing too, proper home cut and fried, the waitress and bar maid were very friendly too very polite and all smiles. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone, I wish we hadn't of already booked an apartment because after the level of service and quality I would've of quite happily stayed in one of their rooms for the weekend.
Excellently located in the centre of the city; therefore no parking space close to the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Room was nice, bathroom functional but bit dated. Beautiful old building with stairs so not suited for people with walking difficulties
Lamb and Lion is a lovely quaint oldie worldy pub. Staff friendly and perfect location for the heart of York. We were a couple of floors up. No lift and steep steps. Room was nice. Clean. Had everything we needed. Window is single glaze so noise from street woke us a few times. There are signs for people to leave pubs quietly but after a few drinks people naturally get rowdy so perhaps the windows need redoing. No parking but they do have a deal with the local council which provides a reduced parking rate which is good!! Would stay here again. My first time in York and I was impressed.
Excellent food, there was so much meat in my partners steak pie there was hardly any room for the gravy. I had bangers and mash which was lovely too. Slightly more expensive then a few of the other pubs in york centre but you won't be disappointed. Staff friendly and helpful, can't fault it
We had a delicious roast beef lunch. On arrival the pub was quite busy but after a short wait we were seated and had a wonderful time. Good, relaxed atmosphere with very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend and hope to return again.
Such a great B&B. Quaint room under the eaves - but excellently comfortable, all mod cons. Register at the bar downstairs - meals available, great food and drink. Overall atmosphere I would say is the closest thing to a bona fide coaching inn from days of yore ...
We stayed here for an annual get together with 2 friends. It was chosen due it’s great central location. When we arrived the staff seemed very stressed & short staffed. My room was up 3 flights of stairs, was cold ( radiator appeared not to work), tired decor but at least the shower was hot. The window rattled and was drafty. This was not what we expected for £149 (bed & breakfast). However the real problem came when I tried to sleep the noise from the street below echoed in the room and continued intermittently most of the night. Sorry but we will not be coming back here next year ☹️
We were passing and called in for a drink. Quick service and friendly staff. Lovely oldie worldie pub I would call it. Prices are what to expect. Had a table by the window and watched the many people go passed Will go again
A lovely little pub with good food and excellent cask beers , however I have only given this a three do to the prices . I had a pint of landlord Timothy Taylor and it was above £1 more than the same pint elsewhere. Expensive
