We stumbled on this inn at Bootham Bar and had two nights of the best food we had on our whole trip to the U.K. John our server was attentive, listened to our preferences, and delivered magical meals to us both on two different nights. Reasonably priced, good tap selection. John is the man! It was so good, we are planning on staying at the inn next time.

We visited here with my Daughter and future Son in Law on Saturday 5th October 2019. Table booked for 19.45. We arrived were greeted and shown to our table to be told they had run out of Lamb and there was only 1 portion of Fish n Chips. We looked at the menu ordered and were told all fish n chips now gone. The food was lovely, service great and we had a thoroughly enjoyable night. But i fail to see how a restaurant can run out of 2 dishes so early on an evening even being busy in the daytime. As a business owner myself its all about preparation to deliver a good service.

Came here for drinks with a friend, drinks were nice and cheap, food looked honestly amazing but unfortunately we had already eaten. This place is definitely on the list for next time. Staff all very friendly.

Made to feel welcome from the minute you walked in till the minute you leave. Excellent service well done. Good was delicious and a good mix of drinks available. Close to everywhere we intended to visit.

We have not used this as a hotel as we live here but we frequently use it as a pub/eating place and mostly enjoy its relaxed convivial atmosphere - especially at less busy times. There is a really good selection of beers (including real ales from Yorkshire) plus they do a G&T with a lot more style than the bar I very recently reviewed - properly in a balloon glass with the garnish they say they do. Food is not brilliant but it is certainly adequate and portions are very generous. We especially like it when it is colder, more winter like weather but the beer garden is good in summer. We often take friends (not from York) and everybody seems to like it. The only criticism is sometimes music is a bit too loud On the whole a quirky pub with ambience - right under the city walls.

Need to start by saying, the staff at this B&B are an absolute credit to this establishment, each and everyone went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The food was very good, the beer garden is an absolute gem and the location is spot on. Those who review this place and mention noise, get over it, it's right next to the minster, city noise is a given. Those who mention 6 flights of wonky stairs, you have no grounds to moan, this is a period property and part of it's charm. Unfortunately, the cons which I will list now rather let the above down. This place is neglected, grubby, tired and overpriced. Our room was in the attic, it was very stuffy, shabby and basic, curtains are torn and hanging in dirt. Loo roll is beyond thin (bathroom was clean). Stain on ceiling was crusty. Stair carpets need detail vacuum. The downstairs toilet is a total fright, the radiator is hanging in filfth. More scary was the open door to the kitchen which was not very clean either, there was food all over the floor and definitely a dirty kitchen. Would we stay again, my husband says he would as the pros out weigh the cons and our bed and bathroom were acceptable. It could do with a fresh pair of critical eyes, attention to detail needs addressing and some room frills adding. Such a shame as the price reflected a much more pristine B&B experience. I feel it was at least £100 over it's worth. We are used to travelling, trust me we speak from experience.

Came here at the start of September for the night as an anniversary treat, I emailed beforehand to request a minster view which gladly we got with room 6 unfortunately though that was possibly a mistake as our tv wouldn't work (I was a bit Ill while we stayed so went back to the room early) so ended up watching tv on our phone! The rooms are very dated, our bed randomly creaked all night so much so that my husband decided to go for a walk round york at 4.30am, the chair was broken, hardly any plug sockets, shower wouldn't drain so I ended up just washing my hair and then having to wash using the sink. Must admit the staff really are lovely and the food was nice (didn't have breakfast) but overall we definitely wouldn't stay again!

We received a warm and friendly welcome at this very old historical hotel which is a few minutes walking distance from York Minster. My sisters, our mother (who was in a wheelchair) and myself stayed 3 nights at the Lamb & Lion. The rooms were all very clean, good quality comfortable mattresses, spacious bathrooms, fresh towels each day, tea and coffee. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast very good. The restaurant was cosy and relaxed with a good menu with authentic Yorkshire food. Loved the Steak and Ale pie! A big thank you to the lady at reception (Debbie) who went out of her way to make our stay so enjoyable. Our mum wants fresh strawberries everyday now!

We had a table booked for 7 of us and the staff were very attentive to us. We ate in the restaurant which is very pretty. A large menu. I had trio of sausages on mash and it was very tasty followed by 3 scoops of ice cream. Only criticism the ice cream was a little small, not full scoops and the loos could do with some attention! Very central to the city and a one minute walk to the Minster.

We visited on a busy race day, Alice and molly couldn’t do enough for us! We got the 3 for £11 nibbles. Couldn’t fault the food and the service was the best we have received in long time. Thanks guys!!
