Stayed Friday for family reunion. Disappointing hotel, small room overlooking scruffy back yard. No air conditioning, window only opened a little. Lounge and bar ok, clean and tidy but extremely slow bar service. Breakfast good. Car park a scruffy garage (£10 extra) full of pigeons. Car filthy in morning. A poor second to Premier Inns

We stayed one night while on a tour of England, Scotland and Wales. Our room was clean and large but there was no drawer space at all. the bed was rock hard with thin pillows. The closet consisted of two pegs that were mounted to the wall with a few hangers on them. We faced the street and there was tremendous noise all night long from people walking by. The bathroom was small but efficient. The breakfast was the weakest breakfast we had on our tour. Not a lot of selections but it was still something to eat for breakfast. Even though this hotel is located within the city walls, I would have much rather stayed elsewhere.

We stayed at this hotel last week and it was great. The staff are friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They are also very knowledgable and gave us great advice on the best places to eat. We will stay here again when we visit York and definitely recommend it.

Organised an anniversary break . Unfortunately our four week old granddaughter was diagnosed with a tumour a week before our break. I contacted them and explained our situation and asked if we could cancel and get a refund. They came back to me explaining that due to the terms and conditions of my booking they could not refund me ! Hotel 53 please look up the word "compassion" in your dictionary......

Hi I booked a room last minute at the hotel and got a great price explained I need slightly bigger room and quiet as was for 3 people and I got just as I asked. Room clean and lots of space .2 twin beds and a sofa bed made up for my son aged 10 which was very comfortable.we were on the 4th floor so noise was not to bad from the street. Hotel breakfast is one best I have had lots choice and all very tasty. All Staff are extremely helpful and nothing is a problem. Location of hotel is perfect city centre and 2minute walk to main drag and like any city centre there is a charge for parking. Would highly recommend this as a place to stay and I will certainly be returning. Thanks again hotel 53

I have stayed at Hotel 53 a number of times and always come back because of the location, the food and the friendly and efficient staff. Having recently stayed in the hotel, I was disappointed to find out that the restaurant was closed in the evening and all that was available a tiny menu which was available in the bar lounge or as room service. Why loose the restaurant? The food was great and your guests loved it! I ordered from the minuscule menu and the food was nowhere near the standard that I've come to expect form a hotel like Hotel 53 - it tasted like it pre-prepared/microwave type food and the menu lacked inspiration. How disappointing and such a shame as the staff are still excellent, efficient and friendly and the hotel itself is aesthetically pleasing and in a super location.

Booked this hotel for one night and it was one of the cheaper hotels available. We knew this was not going to be anything special but thought it would be fine for the few hours that we slept in the room. We booked this to go out into York in the evening. It was clean but when we walked into the room it was a little bit stuffy and like it could have done with having the window open for a while between occupants, I do appreciate though that there is a fast turn over. The doors could do with being soft close as there was a lot of door banging during the night and early morning. Other than that it was absoloutly fine and for the price. Location was great and there is pay and display parking around the back which was £9 for 24 hours. The staff were really friendly and polite and check in was very fast.

Stayed here with two adults and two kids in a room with a pull-out sofa bed. All in all, this is a great hotel within 5 minutes walk to the castle museum, tower, and into the rest of town. The room we had was a bit small, but accommodated us nicely. They had to turn the sofa-bed sideways so it ended up being pressed against the side of the bed to fit at all. But it worked! We would stay here again and easily recommend it. Staff were all very nice and the breakfast was great.

Just booked in on a tour and were treated to another sub standard room with a view of ventilation stacks and the smells that come with them if you stay here try a room above the first floor and hope for the best with one lift

Booked a hour before arrival and reception desk had our booking to hand. Right in the centre of the city and room spacious, very clean and lovely double power shower & sofa in our standard double room. No onsite parking but car parks close by. If you do not like firm pillows you may want to bring your own or ask at reception desk for alternatives.
