Paintbrush Inn Thermopolis2.0 out of 5.0

Last month I stayed one night on my way to Yellowstone . No reservation and I got the next to last room for the night at a very reasonable price. The room was huge and included a kitchenette. It was clean, the shower was fine and the bed was comfortable. The wifi was pretty much non-existent, but that's not a big deal for me. Owners could not have been nicer on check in. A very good experience.
I wanted to stay here and not a big chain motel, and I'm very glad I did. The Paintbrush Inn was very clean outside, and my room felt very inviting. I slept really good, the room was clean, and the people running it, who I assume was the owners, were very nice and polite. When I go back to Thermopolis, I will be staying there again.
This is a friendly, owner-run place, but the maintenance just seems to have got away from them. Major downside - no door to the bathroom. I never thought we'd have to ask about this ... Apart from that, the room had a really damp, stuffy smell - partly old carpet, partly the air con, the filter badly needed changing. All the drawers were full of spare linen - nowhere to unpack - but I felt it would be cleaner staying in the suitcase. I'd rather spend an extra $10 and if necessary forego two icecreams.
Clean and cozy. Good for a few nights stay. Nice staff. Would like to see maybe a few up to date things. Maybe more of a theme of "paintbrush" in the room. Love these little retro hotels. Support of the local hotels is a good thing!
Oh my heavens!!!! Wanted to book a reasonably priced room and did through Priceline. But this!!!! Walked in to a very odd smell but I guess I got used to that. Old bedding looks like it came from the thrift store. And the BATHROOM!!!! The shower and toilet are in one room with no tub so when you shower, water will go all over the toilet!!!! And the best part....no door!!!!! Just a shower curtain to Separate the toilet/shower from the rest of the room. Never in my 72 years have I seen a place like this but once we paid for it we can't afford to just go somewhere else.
we stayed here for 3 nights while we explored the surrounding area its clean and quaint but dont let the " complete with klitchenette" lull you into thinking you will be having meals there. fridge microwave coffeepot and a very small sink with some random dishes in a cabinet. they do have a gas grill and a picnic table at one end that you can use however if you are so inclined. now lets talk about the shower lol it was so small i cracked my head on the cold water handle bending over to wash my legs almost knocked myself out and had a huge bruise the next day, now i am a tad overweight and only stand 5'4 so that tells you how small this shower was. there were no hooks anywhere to hang items up ( jackets etc) a closet in the bathroom had 1 clothes hanger and no dresser to unpack your clothes so suitcases were taking up floor space. for the price it was just "ok" but I am glad we didnt have to spend much time in the room as we spent our days and early evenings out and about.
Got a room here at the last minute and they were able to accommodate. Very clean room all the amenities you need And actually very quiet even though it is off the main road in Thermopolis. This is definitely our new favorite place to stay when we were there!
The owner is very friendly and helpful. Older Inn but very clean, and well kept. This is a place we stay year after year. Kitchen units, handicapped, and joining rooms. Please try the Paintbrush Inn and see how friendly and accommodating.
Can you say disorganized? I should have known it was going to be interesting when I made the reservations. The husband didn't know the business, had to refer to the wife who was not around. She later called me back and confirmed the room. She told me they closed the office at 9 so if I got there at 9 or later she would just leave the key outside. A little concerning as you never know who might have "checked into" the room before I get there. Well we arrived at 8:45 and the office light was flashing "ON" but no one was in the office. There was a key to room 20 outside the office with a registration card but my name was not on it and the rate was higher than what was quoted. We checked into room 20 and found it very large with a high chair in the kitchen and food in the fridge. I saw the man in the office and went to see him expressing my concern. He said, that was the wrong room and sent me to room 29. I gave hubby the key while I was paying the correct room charge. Hubby came back and told the owner that someone was already in room 20. Awkward. Owner then sent us to room 25. We went to room 25 and found the a/c and the tvs were not working. Owner found the wife and she came in and proceeded to ask me if I unplugged the ac or re-set it as she ripped the top off and instructed me as to what I needed to do. Needless to say I told her, No.....that is not my responsibility. Meanwhile her husband is knocking on all the doors to find a vacant room and came back with a key to room 28 and said the ac and tvs were working. We finally checked in room 28. The rooms are old, not well maintained and I was not comfortable walking on the carpeting in my bare feet. We slept with furniture in front of the front door because we didn't feel certain that the owner or some other renter might try to come in to the room. We stayed 2 nights and did not feel comfortable taking a shower. We did not go elsewhere because there was some horse sale in the area and all the rooms were booked. We only slept there because we were visiting family and only needed a place to sleep. Oh yea, did I mention there was left over Asian food in the fridge when we checked in? If you only need a place to sleep and are not concerned about .......anything, then I guess it's better than sleeping on the street.
I had 6 rooms I thought reserved under my credit card and I called twice to confirm and add another room. I called to confirm I will be there 3 days before our arrival and they said there were no reservations under my name. This would have ruined my outing with our seniors if I had no hotel rooms for them. Luckily there were 6 rooms down the street on such a busy weekend. And on top of it, Collette hung up on me without any apology or explanation. The worst!
