stayed here to go to a concert and get a early start home in the morning location right on portage ave on west side uf city near perimeter and two blocks from tim hortins suited me fine
Very nice stay. Breakfast is no included however there is a great restaurant on site where you can buy a good breakfast.
I'm conflicted on how to review this hotel. It doesn't help we arrived at night with young kids. The area does not have a great vibe and we definitely felt uneasy about our stay. It definitely is more of a motel. The room itself was clean and updated and spacious, although 3 locks on the door didn't give us much assurance. The bed was wobbly when you rolled over and definitely small queens. We didn't stay for breakfast. When we left in the morning it didn't seem as sketchy. I guess you get what you pay for. Clean basic room close to the highway. Just be aware the area isn't the nicest, especially at night.
Room was clean and had what we needed. For it being a newly renovated hotel there were a couple of things that stood out to me.....there was no shelf above the hook for the iron to sit on. There was no directory of the City of Winnipeg and no binder showing some of the key traveler sites to see in Winnipeg or key restaurants.
My partner and I live in Winnipeg, and were looking for a place to stay while having some renovations done to our home. The Howard Johnson Winnipeg West was just a 10 minute drive from work and for less than $100 per night, it was a perfect fit! We have a foster dog that needed to stay with us and they were able to accommodate us with a pet friendly room for only $10 per night. The front desk staff was very knowledgeable, personable and efficient. This hotel is not for everyone, however. This is not a luxurious place to stay and it isn't easily accessible to much of the city (as it is as far west as it gets). It is a simply a comfortable, functional place to stay.
The hotel is situated on the road entering the city. There isn't much around the area for restaurants but the hotel does serve food in the pub which is good. No breakfast included but you can order at the pub & pay. They also have a small casino.
After reading some of these reviews I was starting to think maybe we went to a different Howard Johnson in Winnipeg, but nope we are all reviewing the one on Portage. First off our room was VERY clean, without question. On the negative, I would say this must of been one of the first if not THE first Howard Johnson in Canada, judging by the building, and I would add the decor and linens are still from the grand opening. We were in the motel part looking at a car dealership so maybe avoid those rooms. We had dinner there it was alright and reasonably priced. Then we went to bed after a long day of driving and our neighbouring guests decided to have their music on full blast. I tried to be patient about it but eventually I phoned front desk and the phone rang for literally 15 minutes without anyone ever picking up. The music did get turned down so perhaps the front desk person was talking to the noisy guest? Who knows, I was just happy the call made wasn't something life threatening. I will finish the review on a positive note, it was easy to get onto the Transcanada from the location, but there has got to be someplace nicer to stay in Winnipeg.
Clean spacious rooms, very efficient front desk, good food in restaurant, nice bar to have a relaxing drink
This place is fine for a cheap night but considering there are better options as close as next door I would try and stay elsewhere. The room was tiny and the wifi was very slow. The employees were all nice and professional.
The fellow at the front desk, Austin, was very friendly and informative. Beds were comfortable and clean.
