This is possibly the best hotel to stay at to explore the beautiful city of Windhoek. With great tourist attractions within walking distance from hotel including the Christchurch and Memorial. We visited during their renovations, which took nothing away from the charm, the beauty and the service. Their staff is possibly their biggest asset. We had drinks at the bar, not a lot of cocktails on the menu. For better views i suggest booking on levels higher than 4th Floor. Their entrance is not visible so you might end up driving around the building a few times before knowing where to enter the underground parking. The nice thing is that you can walk the main road with cute restaurants, shopping opportunities right there. The hotel is smack bang in the middle of a shopping centre, which is very busy and not very interesting, ATM right at the front door. The swimming pool are deserted most of the time. Breakfasts are an awesome spread with different things most days. I would stay again in a heartbeat.
During 2017 I have stayed more than 70 nights. I have experienced that prices have gone up, but service have gone down at Avani hotel. This can not entirely be blamed on the current upgrade of the hotel
I am visiting AVANI since round about 15 years. It had always the charme of a "good friend" and most different to many of the so called "modern" hotels. Hope it will maintain this character. You can not compete, if you are not different to your competitors. You can improve service, value, a menu, wine lists, but you should always keep your character if people enjoy. I undertstand that mass tourism brings a good profit, but a good reputation could be even more important.
Service at reception and check in was very friendly and helpful. Reception staff also arranged a taxi and reservation at a restaurant. My room was very comfortable and clean and offered everything I needed. The hotel was being renovated while I was there, which was a bit of an inconvenience. The hotel restaurant was nice, but a little pricey for the variety and quality. I had breakfast and dinner here and both were average. Very little vegetarian options (even potato salad contained ham). Positives: Free Wifi worked very well in room. Complimentary water in bar fridge Pillow menu (which I did not get to try, sadly) The hotel is situated in a little shopping mall with food and clothing stores, a pharmacy, a department store with gifts and souvenirs and a few small daytime restaurants. Negatives: Only one lift was working, so getting in and out took some time waiting or taking stairs to 9th floor. Upon arrival the tv and air conditioner in the room were both out of order, so my first night was a hot one. The shower door in the room came off its rails every time I opened or close it. On two occasions cleaning staff enter my room without knocking while I was there (I checked in early).
We stayed in Avani for 2 nights with friends. Hotel is located inside a shopping mall, which is bit odd and not cozy. However, the breakfast was really amazing and definitely the best of all our 5 hotels in Namibia. But unfortunately the service was not that great: 2/3 of the elevators were broken for whole our stay and it took over 40 mins to queue to the elevators with our luggage when we arrived. Also, none of the elevators worked in our floor, so we always needed to climb at least 1-2 floors with the big luggage, baby equipment etc. to get an elevator. The hotel staff did not offer their help in bringing our staff to the room even though it was located in 9th floor, and we needed to climb there the whole way! In the end way paid for one of employees to do so and claimed the stairs for 2 days. The pool located in the 14th floor, so you can only imagine how many stairs we climbed during the 2 days. I cannot imagine how they do not fix the elevators as soon as possible, when they notice them broken. Or give any discount to the guests when causing that big harm for them. Many in our group had fever during our stay, so it was really rough to climb 9 floors continously. In addition, there were lack of towels continuously in our room. The staff didn't understand at all, that since we had booked an extra bed for extra guest, of course he/she would need towels as well. We needed to call continuously to the reception to fix our room, it was really frustrating.
We had a good couple of days at the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff made it worthwhile .Good food and prompt room service. Our room was cleaned on time and the staff of housekeeping are very friendly as well. Thank you!!
At 9 pm at night we had difficulties locating the entrance to the hotel. When driving by there were a number of big trucks blocking the view from the street as you’re driving by, so very hard to see it on approach. Parking was also difficult to find and there was work going on which meant access was not good or attractive. Also a number of sex workers were hanging around the parking entrance. The hotel had difficulties finding our booking we had to wait 35 minutes before we got a room. The room (701) was quite large in size and beds were comfortable. In terms of eating at the hotel, we only had breakfast - it was average at best.
Fix your elevators. have in-house technician to nip these problems before they impact customers. Your managers should learn to take ownership and apologise to the poor service provided not defend the inevitable.
Great location in the centre of town. As it’s easy to drive in Windhoek we picked up our hire car at the airport and went for the free hotel car parking option. However, with all the refurbishment work to the hotel and the multi-storey car park, it was very difficult to find the access. We ended up having to park on the road, find our way in via the shopping centre to the first floor reception to then get car park directions to their fourth floor car park as there were no signs visible for either the hotel or its car park with all the scaffolding everywhere. My husband thought the hotel was closed and nearly went elsewhere as he was so fed up driving around in circles trying to find the entrance. It’s a very busy hotel and with not all their small lifts working, it took a long time to get between the room and restaurant etc. That said we had a very nice clean room on a high floor and once the whole hotel refurbishment has completed, I’d consider using again but not during the refurbishment.
Excellent service, I have enjoyed my stay. Keep up the good work. The service I have received from reception, security, parking, restaurant and in the room was superb. However there is a need to repair the lifts.
