The Black Bear Lodge

The staff was friendly and helpful. The beds were hard and uncomfortable and I woke up several times during the night. The breakfast needs an overhaul. Cold cereal and cold danish don't cut it for a day of skiing.

Great ski lodge. Familial, clean, quiet. Rooms are clean. Breakfast is good. Not too fancy, but completely satisfactory for a ski trip.

Nice hotel with restaurant, jacuzzi, very close to Stratton village and slopes. Friendly Staff

This is a satisfactory hotel except for the fact that there is little sound proofing in the rooms.

Typically when we've stayed at Stratton in the past we've done so with friends, so we were looking forward to trying one of the base hotels off season. Given how well conditioned Stratton Village is, we were all shocked at how downtrodden the Black Bear Lodge was in comparison. Lesson learned off-season when the room was discounted, but if I had paid top dollar for this place during the ski season, I would have been furious.

The location was great and the room was perfect for us on our 2 night stay. Only compliments are the free continental breakfast which lacks quite a lot. For $20, we got some decent food though (pancakes and omelet). The lack of fridge in room also meant that leftovers had to be tossed out.

When reserving room, we requested a king/twin only to discover that they did not have this combination and we ended up with two queen beds. Going into the room, the door was extremely warped and it was extremely difficult to open (I am disabled and this proved impossible for me). When we got in the room, we discovered there was no refrigerator or microwave. This motel was also pet free (I love pets and had to leave my beloved Chihuahua home) and the first night two dogs barked continuously for two hours and then woke us up early the next morning, along with someone's car alarm. We went to breakfast the next morning and there was little to choose from. We went to the Peru Craft fair and had an excellent day. When we returned to the hotel, we were exhausted and when I turned back the bed, bugs were in my bed whereupon I called the front desk and asked that my bed be totally remade. I was extremely upset. After my husband returned with dinner, we tried to relax and watch TV, however, another dog was across the hall and barked continuously for four hours. This was ridiculous. I called the front desk again to see if they could do anything and they said they would look into the situation but the dog only continued to bark. During this time my husband had to use the bathroom only to be confronted with a large, bigger than a half dollar, spider. Therefore, we will NEVER stay at this hotel again and will tell our friends no matter what, do not stay at this hotel.

The hotel was clean and basic. It looked nicer on the internet than in person but I definitely enjoyed my stay. The price was reasonable considering that I booked with only a few week's notice for the 4th of July holiday.

great location, clean rooms, 2 minutes to Stratton mountain

Everything was wonderful, staff was great, hot tub was awesome. price was right! Thanks!

Although I can see some great potential, our visit was disappointing. The room was clean and comfortable but had absolutely NO amenities such as:coffee maker, small fridge, mirror in room, cushion in window seat - nada!. The lounge and restaurant were closed the entire 4th of July week and weekend (no one knew if/when it would open) with the exception of breakfast which consisted of yogurt, fruit, coffee, granola, juices and bagels. Even that closed up by 10:00!! Since the "village" restaurants were also closed more than they were open, we were stranded if we hadn't rented a car to drive into local towns. Moral of the story, don't advertise yourself as a summer locale if you aren't going to accomodate your customers with any type of hospitality, using the excuse "this isn't season for us". Then stay closed when it isn't "season" for you.

This hotel is not a luxury hotel, but has everything you could need for your ski vaca. The rooms are a little small, and I was disappointed that there was no pull-out couch. (Apparently there are no pull-out couches in any of the rooms). Also, the bed was a double. What's up with that? No one sleeps in a double any more. The booking site told me I'd be getting a queen and a pull-out sofa. So, just check before you go to see what type of room you're getting. Overall though, it was clean, cozy, and very close to the mountain.

For the one night that we stayed it was pretty good. The comfort of the bed and pillows were just amazing. Wish we could of stayed longer but had a spartan race the following day.

Hotel was not what I was expecting but it was clean and quiet. I found it good value for the money. It does need updatig including new bed linens. It was well located for our activites.

The Inn at Stratton is very dated and dirty. It is an old ski lodge that has never been updated BUT it is in a great location and very cheaply priced. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean but very old and frayed. If you just need an overnight room for little money in a great location, this can work. The alternative is to spend $$$ on the newer condos and rentals at Stratton. I wil say the dining room/bar is quite nice and very comfortable. We watched the Olympics in there as a family and had a great time!

Most amazing room i've ever stayed in during my entire life of traveling around the world, I'd kill for one of the beds they have there, we literally could not get out of bed in the morning and had to force ourselves to get up and out at noon both days we were there!

The room was worn and tired althoughh the location was very good for Stratton mountain. The staff were friendly on arrival. Although when I rang to check about late arrival, it would have been useful (and extremely relevant!) to tell me that the mountain road was blocked. Meant I had an extra hour to drive.

Only slept there 1 night. That was enough. Will stay in main lodge next time.

Comfortable condo for group of 4 friends. Beautiful fall foliage views.

Hey, We were just looking for a place to stay overnight in Vermont and not spend an arm and a leg. This place was very affordable and the rooms were fine for one night. The hot tub and sauna were perfect to finish off a nice day in vermont and the staff and service was very good.
