The Hotel phoned me as I was late to say the Kitchen was closing 9pm which I thought was a nice touch. On arrival I ordered food and it was delivered to my room. The staff were very friendly. It is a quiet location to say it is so close to the M4. The room was in need of some modernisation and the bathroom definitely needed some attention, but saying this, it was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. If you are a light sleeper, ask for the upper floor as the floor boards creak a lot!

If you want a hotel with customer consideration do not prebook here. Being a Best Western member clearly means nothing to this hotel. I had not found such an unhelpful hotel in over 30 years of travelling.

First impressions on arrival in the hotel car park are of a poorly maintained building; rendered walls green with algae, grounds needing attention and a pathway in need of a resurface. Once directed to our room through a maze of doors and stairs the hotel took a Faulty Towers look - sapele veneer doors, swirly carpets and 80s artex ceilings. Our room was basic, poorly presented but spacious. The en suite had blue Lino style walls and enough mastic around the bath to fill a 3" gap. The wall mounted electric shower sounds like a small engine trying to start an a cold winters day, we could hear others as the sound travelled through the walls. The beds had dubious mattresses, we both sank into the middle. We booked into the restaurant and had a drink in the bar before. The pub was very pleasant with a good selection of beers. The restaurant had a good choice of pub fare and al a carte. The food was fantastic, great quality and generous portions, we were so impressed with the food we booked for a second night. If the owners took as much care of the hotel as the chef does with the food you would have a great place to stay.

This place was a great find when a booking.com reservation in Bath let us down on arrival. The staff smiled and welcomed us which was hugely needed after being let down elsewhere. Wish we new about this place sooner. Would definitely return if in area again . Fantastic value and hospitality.

Stayed here for one night for a hen weekend. Though the bathroom decor is dated, the beds were really comfortable. Staff are really friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea is really affordable and the sandwiches are delicious. We gave the staff some decorations to put in the room we were having afternoon tea in and they added their own bits to them too. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed here for one night for a quick and quiet weekend for bank holiday. I chose here because I wanted to stay near Castle Combe. It happens that this place is also near Bath. It was affordable and we had a car, so it was convenient for us to get around. We stayed in a "family room" which was a double bed and a single bed. Reception was nice and very kind. Shower, whilst was electric, was really good! The one downside to this, was that the pillows here aren't very nice. Even though I had 3 under my head, I got a terrible knot in my neck and shoulder. I couldn't turn my head the next day! So I would advise to stay here but bring your own pillows if you can!

A short notice break took us to the Compass Inn. The room was a bit run down with old mismatching furniture and mould around the bathroom. Walls paper thin so we were able to share the conversation with the lads next door. The food was good and the dining room and bar had a nice atmosphere. Good locals walks for those inclined.

We stayed recently for one night in order to attend a family funeral. The place is easy to find. I see what people are saying about the decor and overall appearance, but at the end of the day I want a clean room with a comfortable bed and somewhere to have a bath/ shower. What is exceptional about this place is that all of the staff were polite, helpful, informative and cheerful. We had our dog with us and we were made to feel very welcome. We had a meal in the bar ( with said dog and two relatives) in the evening and I have to say that it was excellent. All the plates were wiped clean. The cost was very reasonable too. We finished off with a couple of cheese platters and instead of the usual couple of tiny slivers , we were treated to four generous and delicious hunks with plenty of biscuits and chutneys. Fortunately two other friends had arrived by then otherwise we would have been struggling to eat it all. The following day saw the wake held at the hotel and the buffet was way above average. Again the staff were very efficient and helpful. We would not hesitate to stay again should the need arise.

Met friends for lunch recently & found it disappointing. We have eaten there before but not for some time. We had to wait ages for our food although it was not busy. About 10 min after placing our order a waiter came to us & told us "we don't have any pork chops". The friend who had ordered them had to ask for the menu, while she was trying to choose an alternative, the waiter mentioned the specials board. We had not seen this at all. He said he had only just finished it! It was after 1pm! My friend chose another dish & was told"we don't have any chicken either" so she had to choose again. The food was ok although over cooked scampi & fish platter not as described. The room was unbearably hot. We asked for some ventilation & the patio door was opened for a short time but as a lady was sitting next to it she got cold & the door was closed. Why didn't they open a window? No one asked if the food was ok. Pleasant waitress but very indifferent service.

We arrived Friday evening for my partners birthday, we upgraded to a suite and it was definitely worth it. A birthday card was left for my other half which was a lovely touch. The food was fabulous, dinner was delicious and great portions, we were ready to sleep after our massive meal, unfortunately we only stayed for 1 night as I would of loved to of tried more of their menu. The breakfast was excellent and staff were extremely friendly and welcoming so would definitely recommend
