This hotel was just okay for me. My room was not cleaned properly, the staff was pleasant though. The staff who cleaned the room was very difficult to understand so I was not able to communicate my needs.
This hotel was picked for our team to stay while in the area for a soccer tournament. After staying in another Residence Inn in Richmond, VA, I was worried this hotel would not meet my needs to having 2 beds in the room for my daughter and I to sleep. I called the hotel the day before the arrival and I was told that I was in a room with 2 beds. Upon my arrival, the lady at the front desk told me they had to move some people around, but I wasn't moved because I had called. This started the weekend on the right foot. The hotel was clean and acceptable for the 2 nights I had to be there. The location was good, close to the soccer fields, to the highway, and to shopping. I was traveling with my teenage daughter. The staff was very help and quick to fix the toilet when I told them it was running and didn't work correctly. The breakfast was good and was a bonus to the stay.
Stayed here while attending a Soccer Tournament in Hockessin. Overall, good location, easy to get to. Definitely an older Residence Inn, but the lobby / breakfast area had been completely remodeled. Breakfast was very good! Rooms are very large and spacious. Not the cleanest Marriott hotel, but it was bearable. Unfortunately our room did not have hot water, however the front desk was accommodating and let us use the vacant room next door, This was still obviously an inconvenience, but things happen. Late checkout request was granted for our last day there which was much appreciated.
We were visiting University of Delaware and this was a great location. Rooms are large and comfortable. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was expansive, coffee could be improved. Enjoyed the Paul Mitchell soaps/shampoos.
When making reservations for this property, I was concerned because I don’t typically like staying at motels (rooms open to outside/no internal hallways). With that said, this was the nicest suite style Marriott property in the area to accommodate our family for the 5 night stay over Christmas break. When we checked in, we were pleased with the friendly staff, and the sizeable and well-appointed room. Positives: + Large room with 2 Queen Beds and a large sitting area with a sofa that can easily be converted into another twin bed by moving pillows. My young adult daughter felt like she had her space and my husband and I felt like we had own our space. + Kitchen with full size appliances and an array of gadgets. I have stayed in places like this before and although they had appliances without the gadgets, you can’t do very much. We actually prepared a side dish to take with us while in this room! Drawbacks: - We were assigned a room on the first floor very close to the highway so it was a bit loud and drafty. After the 2nd night, we decided to put a blanket under the door and that fixed the problem. I would recommend that the hotel put some insulation strips at the bottom of the doors to fix this issue. - Housekeeping came in every day but did not provide new shampoo and conditioner each day. They made the beds and changed out the towels but did not vacuum each day (or even between guests). My daughter found a toenail on the floor the first day and it did not belong to any of us – Gross. Summary: Would we stay here again? If I am able to use points again, yes. If I had to pay for it, I would read the reviews of the Embassy Suites to see how they compared.
Our family of 5 stayed here for 1 night as a stopping point between VA and NYC. I wish we would have read the reviews before staying and kept moving to the Towneplace Suites. We were on the first floor right across from the welcome center. Our upstairs neighbors spent a good portion of the night stomping and dropping large items onto the floor creating loud obnoxious banging. At least this drowned out the noise from the interstate I suppose. Sometime in the middle of the night the air kicked on and there was a loud humming noise that jolted me out of bed. After a bit so good night sleep, I was really just wanting some breakfast and a hot shower. The breakfast was a joke- stale toast, undercooked eggs and soggy fruit. Next came the shower- in their defense they do note that each unit has its own hot water tank. What it fails to mention is that the hot water runs out in less than 10 minutes. My husband is always quick so he showered first. I followed and by time I went to rinse my shampoo the water was already luke warm. I quickly added conditioner and lathered up with soap. I couldn't even finish lathering when the water went ice cold! I rinsed my hair as quick as I could then turned the shower head off... I used the freezing water from spigot to splash off the remaining soap on my body. What a rude awakening! Needless to say... we will not return. There is a much better option just around the corner in the Towneplace Suites!
The Residence Inn Wilmington/Newark is a great hotel, especially for an extended stay traveler. This hotel offers a home like atmosphere with personable staff members to match! Rooms are very spacious and offer kitchens well equipped to cook a full meal and store groceries. Management is regularly available in the complimentary evening mix, which includes food and beverages, to address any questions or concerns you may have. Front desk goes the extra mile to ensure your satisfaction and are more than willing to provide resources regarding the local area!
This is an older Marriott property and, by and large, it shows. It could use a refurbishment (new carpets in room, etc.). The buildings have the doors to the rooms on the outside (reachable by outside stairs to landings, for example), My personal preference is to have the room door on an inside hallway. Maybe it is a matter of feeling safer, regardless of whether that is a well-founded feeling or not. Management at the check-in desk was pleasant and the office building, where breakfast is provided, seemed to be well-maintained.
My wife and I attempted a one night stay (using Marriott Points) at this location. We arrived around 10pm on Saturday 9/10. I hotel seemed to be an older location, not very good lighting and limited parking. When we walked into the front desk area we were greeted by Leslie & Carol, but Leslie took reservation information and had us quickly on our way to our room. Upon getting to our room, we noticed a moldy cigarette smell. There was white dog hair all over the sofa. Pubic hair in the bathroom shower and the phones were filthy with white hands prints (like powder or dust). The carpets were not vacuumed very well and crumbs left from another guest. We called Leslie (holding the phone 3 inches from my face) told her the condition of the room and she apologized and had us come back down for another room. We were given room 113, this time a handicap Rm. This 2nd room was even worse then the 1st! There was food spilled in the kitchenette chairs, something splattered on couch, kitchen floor had crumbs all over, empty water bottle on one side of the bed and the other had crumbs and pistachio shells! Spills of whatever on both night stands. We called Leslie again told her the conditions of the 2nd room, she apologized and asked what do you want her to do? We asked if someone could come and see the room, but she stated there nothing she could do and it's a house keeping problem. We informed her we did not have confidence in staying here if both rooms were in this condition and would rather find some other place to say. We packed up again and went to the front desk. Leslie didn't seem too interested in seeing the pics I had taken in the room, she appeared rather annoyed! She said the hotel manager Aaron Smith would contact me the next day. Carol was another front desk employee, she asked if she could see the pics. Carol was very sincere with her apology was disturbed by the pics and the condition of both rooms. Today is Wednesday 9/14 and I still have not received an email or phone call from Aaron Smith the hotel manager. I would avoid this hotel if possible or until they get a better housekeeping crew. They never even offered to find us another Marriott hotel near by to stay the night. We did find a much better cleaner room at the TownPlace Suites (410 Eagle Run Rd, Newark, DE 19702 (302) 369-6212) just down the road.
Recently stayed at this hotel, was excited because of the outdoor pool and it was a "bargain " using reward points. Will not stay there again. Have not stayed at a Residence Inn before. I was suprised. It is set up like apartments. Doors & windows open to the outside ( like a motel). Needed to walk approx 2 blocks to get to the lobby for tea, assistance, the pool, exercise equipment, etc. Parking was on street. Furthermore, there was a ketchup packet in the pull out couch & food crumbs under the couch. ( Really just felt like someone had said , " I'm out of town this weekend, you can stay at my place. " ) Some of the staff didn't seem very enthused with their job. I went to the lobby at approximately midnight to ask a question, the gentleman working at the desk was polite, friendly & efficient. The security guard however , was " creepy", even pulled up a chair to watch as I used the computer. I left the lobby to get away from him. At approximately 1 am, people got into the room upstairs & could be heard walking- quite loud.Overall experience was not impressive- would not recommend.
