For the price you are mainly paying for location. The staff and location were great. However, the hotel is extremely outdated, there isn't a microwave in the room, and it's cold and dark. For the price you are basically paying for the location with it being so close to downtown. I would never stay here again.
Confusing check-in with the related griffin hotel
What could be better than being steps away from historic Williamsburg while enjoy a tranquil, peaceful setting. We enjoyed a room overlooking the pond with a great balcony. Our 2nd stay here and we'll be back again.
The Griffin could use a refresh. Rooms are huge but dated. Particularly the carpet. Best part of the hotel is that it is part of the Historic Inns of Williamsburg and you can use all the amenities of the Williamsburg Inn.
Stayed one night at griffin hotel. No elevator. Smelly hallway and rooms. Not worth of $300 a night they charge.Dark surroundings at night.
Pool and restaurants were a little far from the other bldgs in williamsburg inn compound
Note that the Griffin Hotel is a separate building from the 5 star Williamsburg Inn. But you get to access the pools and spa and workout room. Those are all Very Good facilities. Pools are great. One quiet one for adults and a noisy one for Kids. And they are noisy! Separate indoor pool and jacuzzi are nice. Griffin hotel condition needs renovation; its outdated. We were put in a lower room and its smelled damp. And there was less light down there. They moved us to upper floor which was great improvement. Right next to lounge. Beds were disappointing. Mostly lumpy/uneven mattress -in both rooms. Small fridge was good to have. Bathroom was clean. Dont expect the "lounge' to have much - a few cereals, fruit cup, milk, yogurt, coffee machine, soda, water, and cereal bars. Almost everything is loaded sugar. After breakfast ends at 1000 not much other than coffee available for rest of day. Rooms on back have nice view of pond/ and have patio/balcony to sit outside. Grounds themselves are nice. Pond with water fountains, lounge chair/hammock. Overall a 3 star. If you dont plan to be in room much its a good deal. A serious renovation would do wonders .
Grounds beautiful. The hotel itself was very dated with warn out furniture. The patio had toys from previous guest
Sadly, refrigerator was down, breakfast snack bar was not open on time and poorly attended (dirty and locked up). Conf room directly over head had a set up at O-dark thirty thus making sleeping a challenge
Great location next to all the action. Clean rooms and friendly staff.
Little confusing when checking in otherwise it was beautiful room and grounds. Great view, easy parking...the stairs are ok, next time i will request a downstairs room.
The hotel is conveniently located w/ shuttle service to the park. They offer various amenities like light snack and breakfast package.
Beautiful room. Excellent staff. Next door to Williamsburg Inn. Food and facilities was excellent.
Orbitz advertised that the Griffin had free breakfast. There were granola bars, not breakfast. I wish we had stayed in a newer hotel with decent room service. A hotel closer to the (modern town) Williamsburg shops and restaurants would have been much more enjoyable. The Griffin was far from the road, very outdated, and no one is there to assist you. I didn't feel safe walking back after dinner in the poorly lit pathways and parking lot.
