Myself and Hubby stayed here for my 50th birthday in June, the minute we got there we were upgraded to a beautiful suite and free breakfast and wine on arrival Staff were very nice and very helpful, the bar food and dining room food was beautiful I would recommend this hotel for a lovely romantic stay, also there was wedding on which was very busy and very child friendly Definitely worth a visit
It was my first time to stay at The Shamrock Lodge hotel on 26th & 27th of July 2017. We were a family group of 25 attending our brother Joe & Ann's wedding. We were delighted to find out that because we were a big group we could book apartments rather than hotel rooms. The twin room apartments were very spacious, clean, comfortable with two showers and a bath. The living area was really spacious with fridge, microwave TV, iron etc. This family run hotel is a credit to all involve and I can't wait to return for a longer stay. Trish Finn
Really enjoyed my two night stay at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel it was amazingly good value and the hotel is beautiful, the staff are helpful and friendly, it is centrally located not just in Athlone but at the very heart of the country. The rooms are spacious and airy and the beds large and comfortable. During our stay there we visited the fantastic Westport House, Yeats Country and the lovely Lissadell House. We found the hotel to be a gateway to the West and looked forward each evening to returning to its welcoming ambience.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for 3 nights. Hotel was well signposted from the town. We were greeted very well at reception. Apartment very spacious. Ideal for us with 2 teenagers. Food in the bar was lovely. We had 2 courses for €15. Service was a bit slow and perhaps the waiter was a new member of staff? We didn't mind as we were in no rush and happy to relax in lovely surroundings. The only downside of staying here with 2 teenagers was the very poor wifi at night time in the apartment. Kids had to sit in reception for a signal. I know some people might find this petty but as a parent of teenagers this was a problem. The other issue was the noise coming from water tank throughout the night so we had a poor nights sleep on the last night. I mentioned these issues on checkout and male receptionist said someone would look into it. All in all it's a nice place to stay. Within walking distance of the town. Would return with my husband but not with teenagers due to problems with wifi.
Stayed recently as part of a group. Stayed in the apartments. They are fit for purpose. Breakfast wasn't great, a long wait for poached eggs. We also had our meal that evening which was nice. It's a busy hotel so get down early for breakfast.
Spent 2 nights here recently and overall was quite happy with it. Check-in was friendly and efficient and although I was early and didn't expect my room to be ready I was pleasantly surprised when it was. The room was very nice, bright and clean, so all going well. My booking included afternoon tea on arrival and 2 dinners, so was looking forward to my afternoon tea. That was a big disappointment, a pot of tea and a plate of biscuits was the afternoon tea, maybe I expected too much. The guy at reception had told me that I could have dinner in the dining room but it was possible that it would be empty and said that if this was the case I could eat in the bar, which I did on both nights. Food was good, portions more than sufficient, but I did think it resembled bar food, which you might say was to be expected in the bar but it could have been a bit better. Service on each occasion I was in the bar was very good and friendly. Breakfast (in the dining room!) was lovely, chef seemed to check the food a lot and replaced when needed, and again staff were very friendly and efficient. Overall it was a good experience and I would return again, especially as I was very impressed with Athlone.
Lovely Staff. Lovely Room. Best Food Ever. Located In The Heart of Town. Will Be Staying Again for Sure. Very Child Friendly. They Try Their Best To Meet Your Needs. Could'nt Say A Bad Thing About Our Stay.
I attended a post-funeral lunch in this hotel recently and was impressed by the way the staff was able to deal with my request for a gluten-free meal at such short notice, down to the last detail. Their response was both professional and discreet.
We stayed here for two nights in a two bed apartment .I have to say it is one of the best hotels we stayed in .The rooms were big and decorated fab and both had a large en suite .The living area was fab with large fridge ,microwave etc.The girl at reception when we arrived could not do enough for us and was really friendly .I didn't get her name .The bar staff and restaurant staff were great. The breakfast each morning was delicious and the evening meals were the same.I only met Roary when checking out at reception and have to give him a big 👍🏻.Hudson bay sport only 10 mins drive from this hotel and the hotel give special offers which include entry to this really fun water sports park .10 out of 10 and really looking forward to staying again ❤️❤️
My family and I stayed 3 nights in the family room 213. The room was light big and had a nice bathroom. It had however had some hard tenants. There was a chair in the room that was horribly stained by drink/liquid and should not be in the room in that state. There was also lip stick stains on the room service menu (no not a typo). The staff in this hotel are my biggest issue. A few staff (male receptionist) were pleasant and looked happy but there were so many others looked so sad and gave the impression of not caring. On the 1st evening we had a drink in the bar and we witnessed a male senior barman openly being verbally abusive to a young barman/waiter that was sorting cutlery. We ate in the dining room on the 2nd evening and our waitress seemed so bored and was not enthusiastic in any way. Our vegetables were horrible and tasted stale but the food was good in general besides. It could be described as wedding/dinner dance food in standard. A few pieces of advice- get a bit more music for the hotel. The same ten songs were played in bar/ lobby/ restaurant all through the 3 days we were there. Breakfast options were poor if you were there more than two days. Our boys used the kids room the 1st evening and was fairly well equipped but on the 2nd day other kids had destroyed the room with crisps, drinks etc and we avoided it until it was sorted. However it remained in this condition, uncleaned when we checked out over 24 hours later. The hotel itself is nice, stairs/rooms/kids room could be cleaner, staff really need to improve their attitude and general demeanour. Could be so much better. Not a bad stay but nothing to be excited about either. The expression "it will do" is what comes to mind.
