Fabulous stay in this hotel with beautiful grounds and lake. We enjiyed a fantastic meal in the restaurant and the breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had. We made full use of the pool, sauna and steam room and hope to have a return visit soon.
It was quite some time since I had stayed here and the hotel has had a bit of a makeover. The island part is still very nice with bar and sports facilities. The main part of the hotel now has a modern reception area. The key issue with this hotel is that everything is straddled between the island part and the non-island part. You find yourself walking across the bridge in the rain to get to the bar and then walking back outside in the cold to get to your bedroom at the end of the evening. And then back again in the morning to settle your bill. If your bedroom is on the island then staying here works. Otherwise it is all a bit of a pain.
Stayed here for one night, as a birthday treat for my wife, wished we could have stayed longer. I think an ideal romantic break. Lovely setting on an island in the lake in the Old House. Meal in the evening was nice as well, although I think we would have been better checking out the bar menu first as that was good value, but the restaurant was nice as well. Pool and sauna etc were clean and nice with a view to the lake. Hot tub was great. Towels in the pool area were a little small, but they were fine. Quite a lot of kids in the pool, I think there was a swimming lesson going on. Some restrictions on Kids in the pool on the times. Building and rooms were quite old, but the rooms were warm and comfortable and the en-suite shower etc was nice. This is a character hotel and not for those who complain about buildings without lifts or creaking floorboards etc. We loved it and would go back. Breakfast was very nice, Cooked to order for a hot breakfast and a Buffet for fruit, cereal and the rest
Great hotel in a lovely setting. Booked one of there dinner bed and breakfast specials and had a lovely evening meal as well as breakfast. Clean hotel with friendly helpful staff that make for a pleasant stay.
Set in an idyllic location. Stayed here for 2 nights and will stay agin next time I'm up this way. Had a room in hotel on island. My room - on top floor; was large with great views overlooking lake and footbridge. Spotelssly clean, comfortable bed and tastefully decorated. Professional, friendly check in. Dined in Charlie's Bar both evenings. Good selection of food on menu plus a specials board. Service was superb ! Staff were very attentive, professional and friendly - they really did go above and beyond and deserve a mention. As does lady who served us in breakfast room. Lovely to see such a smile first thing in the morning, professional and efficient - ensuring ample supplies topped up - including coffee .... Thank you. All in all a very good experience :-)
Business trip, and said in the old part of the hotel which is an outstanding historical Home, loved reading up about the now hotel. Stayed only one night, all staff excellent specially Anna Maria. She was lovely. Had a Bakewell tart! It was lush. Wasn’t a great breakfast, I’m sure that would of improved if we stayed longer. Nothing wrong the selection of breakfast. Just the way it was cooked. Would recommend to others.
Stayed one night for business in wakefield. The place was very clean and presentable, breakfast was good and price for the room was very good. Lovely walks in the morning before heading back home! will be back to stay again and to visit the TeT Restaurant in Wakefield city centre which is definitely a must!
We stayed at this hotel after visiting the Yorkshire Sculpture park and the Hepworth Gallery. We loved it's setting surrounded by a moat and appreciated our historic room. The food in the bar was OK, although the real ale choice could be improved. The breakfast was good in another historic room. Overall a really pleasant stay.
Attended a wedding and stayed overnight...satnav got us there no problem, good size car park... The hotel is in two parts, newer part on the 'mainland' and the older part over a narrow bridge on the island. Allocated room 18, 2nd floor, didn't see a lift but had offers from the staff to carry luggage..It is an old characterful hotel,so don't expect new build...room was large, four poster bed and all you need...bathroom perhaps due a refresh and a walk-in shower is always better than stepping into a bath. Breakfast was OK, the speed of arrival would suggest it is mostly precooked and plated to order...but....not bad and the staff are excellent...in fact...all staff we met were great. Would certainly use it again for a wedding but perhaps not for a leisure break...the noisy Murder Mystery event put us off.
Myself and my new husband got married here on 14/10/17, it’s a beautiful hotel with amazing grounds and all staff are so lovely, especially Pauline our wedding coordinator who made sure everything was perfect on our special day. You have the choice of the beautiful island side of Walton hall, full of history and the grounds are stunning, or the newer beautiful, modern spa side. The rooms are spacious and clean, the bridal suite was stunning and the food was lovely too. Honestly we don’t have a single fault. Perfect place.
