We will start with the negatives and get them out the way! - on this particular day it decided to hammer it down with rain, so obviously we had to get the bride over the bride safely and somewhat dry. The co-ordinater came over with several brolleys and got the bride out the car.. shut us back in the limo and took the rest of the brolleys with her? So we assumed she must be coming back for us, 10 minutes passed and she finally come back for us moaning at us to hurry up. We had no brolleys to go over the bridge with because she took them? She was very unprofessional with us bridesmaids and I asked her to help my elderly grandmother over the bridge and she was moaning about that saying she didn't have time. Well the wedding wouldn't have started without the grandmother either way. Half way over the bridge my dress started to fall and I asked her to pick it up for me with her spare hand (takes two seconds) she said she couldn't and to hurry up. She was also heard moaning about us in reception by other guests. So us bridesmaids and an elderly women and flower girl were expected to get soaked? Also by the time they had served the final table at the wedding breakfast, most of the other tables had finished so I feel more staff were needed for this. Apart from that, most of the staff were welcoming. Our room was executive yet every single floor board creaked, the carpet was worn, the bathroom tiny. Wasn't worth the extra we paid. Food was lovely and the wedding day went smoothly in general.
My partner and I stayed for a night to celebrate his birthday. The staff were excellent from the moment of booking, accommodating a special room request, to the end of our stay when the lovely front desk receptionist asked if he'd had a nice birthday. Everyone seemed to know it was his birthday and he got a special birthday dessert! The hotel itself (we stayed in Walton Hall) is spectacular and beautiful and our executive double was so pretty and posh - we loved the views too! A small issue we had at dinner was dealt with quickly, efficiently and politely by the lovely young man who served us. The lady who served our breakfast was incredibly polite and helpful. Too many people are so quick to criticise but I was so impressed by the hotel and the friendly warm and professional staff that I felt it was important that they were recognised. We will definitely be back (he wants a round of golf in the summer) and it was a pure pleasure to visit. We stayed on the 4th April.
Attended a family wedding so stayed for one night. When arriving at the hotel the gounds are spectactular with well maintained grounds and a great backdrop of the lake and countryside. The wedding was vey well run and the food was excellent with all the staff working very hard to make everything run smoothly. Our room was £125 a night with breakfast after a wedding discount. We previously stayed the night before at the Best Western Hotel St Pierre which was about a 10 minute drive away. Truth be told the room we had was no better than the Best Western but more than double the price. I know the grounds and the facilities are all taken in to the price but room for room there wasn't a lot of difference. We had a pleasent stay and the wedding went off without any problems and was run in a very professional way.
All staff were really friendly. However, I expected more from the food; barley warm soup, one tiny carrot with my main meal and mediocre sticky toffee pudding. Nice location but wouldn't go back; overpriced for what it is.
The hotel is situated in extensive grounds and has ample free parking. The bedrooms are very large and beautifully maintained. Breakfast is fresh cooked (no dried out hot plate food here) and served to order. Check in and check out very easy. I would always choose this hotel when staying in or around Wakefield.
Amenities are commensurate with a building and hotel of this age. It is well kept, but don't expect the same amenities as you find at a modern Marriott or Hilton. Beds are standard (bit hard) mattress and TV is a much older model. Rooms are small and the floors creak, but it is literally over a hundred years old, so that should be expected. As a major plus, the restaurant on site is fabulous. I had a steak that was absolutely lovely and the sides were cooked perfectly with some complex flavors in the vegetables. The pub is quite nice, but the furniture and decor could use some updating. Seating is not that comfortable and it almost had a cafeteria feel to the seating and tables.
From start to finish we were made to feel special and as if we were the only guests. The room was spacious and clean. Requests were dealt with swiftly and with accuracy. Staff were friendly, attentive and considerate. All round an excellent trip. I would highly recommend the location (quiet and relaxing) and the venue for all your occasions. Thank you so much for making my special weekend extra special
Great wedding reception and evening and stay over at Watertown Park..venue was perfect..food at reception and buffet in evening was great as was the service..we stayed over and had an excecutive room which was excellent.
we stayed in the older part of the hall, which is lovely small things let it down mould in the bottom of the kettle, the spa was not open on Mondays disappointing if your only stay Sunday and Monday. hearing a member of staff say they make up the temp of the food when they have to regularly check which is why we didn't eat here scenery was lovely however we have stayed in better hotels locally shame really
We stayed here for a an overnight stay to celebrate my birthday. I must have mentioned this on booking as there was a birthday card and a box of chocolates on my bed waiting for me. A delightful personal touch. The view from the room across the lake was lovely. Sitting there listening to the ducks and birds was very relaxing. I then decided to use the advertised spa facilities only to find the jacuzzi pool out of action with a notice saying it was not fit for purpose. A slight but liveable with disappointment. The pool, sauna and steam room were very relaxing so did the trick. We then went to dinner and had a lovely meal with every cooked and served to high standards. We did want a relaxing pre dinner drink in the lounge first, but after ten minutes we were made to feel as if we had to go to our table, a bit rushed and unrelaxing experience. When I dropped something on the floor later in the evening it was then clear how dusty our room was. You can see by the finger mark on the floor that this room had not been dusted properly in a long time. It did someone what put us off sleeping however as it was late it would have been a lot of hassle trying to move rooms etc. Breakfast next day was a rushed unpleasant experience. It was evident they wanted plus out of they way as a large group was about to descend all at once. It was that rushed that I had not finished my cereal when my hot plated food appeared in front of me. I therefore had to forfeit half the bowl to have the hot food. We weren’t offered a second offering of coffee, but it was brought when I asked for some. Overall the stay was enjoyable but the the birthday treat was marred by a dirty room and rushed breakfast. The bar staff and reception staff were all very friendly and efficient, it seems the restaurant and breakfast staff are a bit eager to get you seated and out in as short a timespan as possible.
