Booked in for our wedding night, turned up @ 1230... Would have been expected to have been shown to our room not given general directions.. As it was obvious it was our special night in our wedding clobber... And told where breakfast was in the morning... Better service in a travel lodge
We came to Charlie's Bar for lunch as the main restaurant is not open for Saturday Lunch, and on our visit was hosting a wedding. We had for starters: Duck Rillette - Tasty small starter Caesar Salad - Beautiful Salt and Pepper Squid - Delicious Mains Chicken Burger - Chicken a little dry Fish Pie - Excellent and full to bursting with fish. Spoilt by a cold plate and accompanying vegetables which were cold Battered Fish and Chips - Wonderful The service was attentive and good and the decor and overall ambience was a busy, friendly hotel bar. On the basis of this visit we will be returning for an overnight stay and dinner in the restaurant.
We went for an early Mother's Day lunch in Charlie's Bar. The restaurant is not open for lunch at the weeks due to weddings. The house is beautiful and the staff very helpful but little things let the place down. Dry chicken in the burger, cold vegetables on cold plates, ginger ale passed off as ginger beer. Empty tissue boxes in the ladies lavatory with puddles of water on the floor. I would go again but not the treat I expected.
This hotel has everything, spa, gym, pool, restaurant and parking. The setting and scenery are stunning. Whats more it is behind a security gate which gives it a very safe and secluded feel. My room was perfect, extremely clean and made up each day. The staff were very courteous and friendly and I loved the fact that they had free magazines and newspapers all around the hotel for use by the guests. It has more of homely feel than a hotel and I would not hesitate to stay again.
Went on a spa / afternoon tea break . Spacious pool if a little shallow at one end ,nice views. Afternoon tea excellent good service ,splendid variety of sandwiches cakes and scone with jam clotted cream . Have had afternoon teas at other local hotels and Betty's Harrogate and this is up there with the best.
We stayed in the manor house part of the hotel, which is on the island in the lake. It's a lovely historic building in a beautiful setting. The staff were friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our short stay. Plus points were the pool and hot tub, the great views, a four poster bed, and a very good breakfast. Negatives? Well, first two aren't deal breakers. We found the floors to be extremely creaky (but it is an 18th century building so not unexpected) doors on upper floors needed re-varnishing. Neither of those things particularly bothered us. What did bother us however, was the poorly marked, speed humps on the approach road, which jarred our car at just 10mph. The painted markings were so old and worn as to be barely visible and no adequate warning. For some cars it would not feel so bad but if you have low profile tyres and firm suspension, it is alarming. Regardless of that, I do highly recommend this hotel.
Late check in, hadn't familiarized myself with the hotel appearance so just went on the sat nav directions which brought me straight to the hotel entrance. It was late and very dark when I arrived and somehow tried checking in to the golf club which is part way down the driveway to the hotel! Perhaps some lighting near the signs would be beneficial for new customers arriving after dark :) The hotel itself had a gated entrance but appeared to automatically open as I drove closer and there was ample parking available. There was a sign pointing to another building reception after 6pm so it was clear where I needed to to check in. There were fairy lights leading the way across the bridge leading me straight to reception, I was then informed that the grounds were a nature reserve- how unexpected I did feel lucky to have found this hotel. My room was old fashioned with creaky floorboards but I loved it, especially the four poster bed. I ordered Bruschetta to start and Creamy mushroom risotto for main, the food was delicious. I would love to stay here again given the opportunity and would highly recommend for both personal and business travel, an absolute beauty spot!
Spa day suprise with my wife via Wowcher offer. Very picturesque surroundings. Spacious swimming pool and amenities. Afternoon tea was gorgeous. The staff at Waterton Park are an absolute credit to the establishment.
It is the first time we've been to the hotel and it really is beautiful. The views from the swimming pool are wonderful. The afternoon tea was scrummy! I couldn't eat all the cakes. We will definitely be back.
I stayed here for 1 night on a business trip as I needed to be in Wakefield first thing the next day. I arrived in the dark, and whilst fairly easy to find it's not the easist experience to arrive in the dark, a bit of forewarning about the single track approach would have been useful. After parking in the car park, I couldn't see any signs about where to gonext, so went into the newer building and aited for check-in as the guy in front of me didn't appear to have a reservation... I was then advised that I was in the older building, across the footbridge. Once I was in the right place, check in was very quick. My room was lovely, 4 poster bed, large bathroom with a separate shower and bath and lots of space. The room was a little bit tired in places, and the bathroom a little dated but very clean. Great view overlooking the water and footbridge. Brilliant cutains and shutters, along with the comfy bed, meant I slept very well. There were a couple of resident noisy geese that decided to have a conversation under my window about 7am though!!! I ate in the restaurant, and had a lovely meal, and the waiting staff were excellent. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and again very nice, but the coffee wasn't to my taste - both over-strong and bland at the same time! Would have no hesitation staying here again.
