Mercure Wetherby Hotel

Chose the Mercure because of its good location just off the A1, convenient for my trip being just near the motorway. Looks like it was built in the 60's - reminded me of Crossroads Motel ! Although the room was old fashioned and needed updating, it was clean and warm. At £67.50 for the night through Booking.com it was decent value too. The evening meal was disappointing and expensive. Garlic mushroom starter was OK but very overpriced. My haddock main meal was bland and tasteless and covered in a watery batter. For £14 I expected a better meal than that and there was a horrendous wait for it to arrive, the place wasn't even that busy. I noticed that the cooked breakfast was a buffet job which is not my favourite and after the dinner experience the night before, I went elsewhere for breakfast so cant comment on brekky. If push came to shove I would stay again but it would mean going elsewhere for food which makes it a real pain.

We stayed in a studio room which had plenty of space our friends were in a standard which was teeny tiny . Rooms are a bit dated but ours was lovely and clean . Very convenient if you want to walk into wetherby . Staff were friendly . We just had breakfast which was lovely and def hit the spot . We would stay again.

Booked by the family (30 of us )for one night for a birthday party in Tadcaster proved very enjoyable, all our rooms were very warm and well presented. The staff looked after us and couldn't have been more helpful. It was especially nice that they arranged for our party to be all seated together for breakfast..,finished off our celebrations perfectly before we all travelled our separate ways home.

I was very surprised and disappointed to find that a continental breakfast was not offered particularly in view of the fact that Mercure is an Accor brand . I brought it to the staff's attention and I accepted cheese and cold ham. Other Mercure hotels visited in the past have been in The Netherlands and France.

The hotel itself was dated and tired. Looked like a 1970’s hotel from the outside. The room was very tired and in need of renovation. The chair at the desk was ripped. The walls were marked & the door

We went to the New Year's Eve Gatsby Night. I was expecting the food to be Ok, but it was absolutely amazing the fillet of beef and dauphinoise potatoes were cooked to perfection! Entertainment was fun, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was a studio room and it was clean spacious and quiet, and the bed was very comfy! Would definitely stay here again!

We booked the New Year’s Eve Gatsby evening at the Mercure - they accommodated us at short notice due to our previously booked event elsewhere being cancelled. I will be honest - for the very reasonable price we paid considering the fact it was NYE, I wasn’t expecting much...it was AMAZING! The food was incredible, massive portions and really well cooked. Entertainment was fun, the magician was excellent and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Our studio rooms were clean and comfortable and breakfast was hot and plentiful! For a 3 star hotel, I thought it was fab, especially the food!

When you arrive the first impression is the old TV show, Crossroads. We didn’t get off to a great start as the hotel said the room was more expensive than I’d booked. I showed the proof but didn’t really get an apology. The room was large and clean. The bed was very comfortable. However, the rooms are so dated and really need a makeover. Part of the bedroom floor is tiled!! The breakfast was poor. A selection of cheap cereals. Actually it is all cheap low quality stuff. I was pleased the bread was for toast as it was stale. The breakfast room and bar were also very dark. Maybe they are struggling to pay the bills! The hotel served the purpose but Mercure start giving this place a makeover!!

Reception and restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly. Housekeeping were not so good. Bed not made properly only one bath towel left between two of us on a few occasions. Only one bath robe between two of us. No daily paper as promised. Breakfast buffet greasy and very limited although when I requested poached eggs no in the buffet there was no problem. We have used this hotel on many occasions but were disappointed this time

I booked the hotel to take my husband away for his birthday. We, as usual got a lovely greeting. The staff are all very pleasant. The deal was dinner bed and breakfast. The hotel surprisingly (it is Christmas weekend) was very quiet so we ate in the main bar area rather than the restaurant. This is a well situated hotel for the town. It is just a few minutes walk into the town centre, also well situated for Leeds and York although we didn't travel as it was only an overnight stay. I would highly recommend this hotel. This is the third time we have been. We will go again.
