Nice hotel in a outer city location. Not far from Leeds city centre and convenient for shopping to various locations. Would recommend to all types of travellers as they cater for all. Parking ideal at location.
Stayed here for one night on business. Reception staff pleasant. Room looking very tired, king size mattress overhanging two single beds pushed together, burn holes (cigarette?) in net curtains (photo attached), marks on chair (photo), carpet not hoovered that well, bathroom very dated as well. Cracks on ceiling and poor paint job with patches in faded / worn colours. Bed linen good though. No bottled water in room (ICH spire elite member - tend to get it elsewhere) and went down to reception where I bought some but room temperature and no ice. Went to bar but no ice there. To be fair the girl offered to bring some to my room, but couldn’t be bothered. Had a drink in the bar, but no atmosphere and menu not appealing, so walked up the road to the nearby Indian restaurant. Breakfast, reasonable selection, but weird dining room, seems to be a few tables in a large space and again very dated. Asked to rate hotel on leaving, gave it a seven as not used to being watched whilst rating and the asked why a seven as they need to know for all scores under eight. Basically said hotel was very tired and needed major refurb or upgrade. Might look elsewhere on next trip as was a bit of a time warp.
The hotel is well situated for Leeds or Bradford. My room was comfortable and the bed was very good. It was clean and The towels were of a decent size. The restaurant was fairly quiet when we ate. We had a starter and a main. It was well presented and one of the best steaks I have had. It was perfectly cooked and of good quality. All the staff were friendly, efficient and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Some parts of the hotel need updating but don't let this put you off. It's in a lovely location , convenient for Leeds or Bradford . I will stay here again when next in the area.
Id read the reviews so knew what hotel might be like. Under new ownership and clearly work is being done. Room needs tlc especially bathrooms. They are clean just matured. Carpets are well worn - broadly everywhere. Staff very good. Loads of parking.
A lovely unusual HI as it is an old building with added extensions and lovely grounds. Being in the countryside it is quiet and good for a romantic break or Wedding. We had the one night whilst visiting friends in Leeds and going to a concert at the Arena which is only 20 mins drive away. The hotel is showing some signs of wear and tear, but is being refurbished so this should make quite a difference once completed. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful and our room was very nice and comfortable, the TV didn't work well (although this is not an issue unless you were staying for a while) and the safe didn't work and was not even fixed to anything, however this maybe part of the refurbishment. Our biggest disappointment was breakfast and maybe this was because the hotel did not have many guests, the layout was very uninviting and minimalistic. The cooked breakfast was fine and the service typical Yorkshire (this from a Lancastrian) pleasant and friendly. Overall a good place to stay
There are mixed reviews on the site but speak as you find we thoroughly enjoyed our night in the hotel. It was midweek and very quiet.Staff were excellent from check-in to bar to restaurant. At one time this must have been an impressive hotel. An older commanding looking building not like normal new Holiday Inns.It is in need of updating but don't be put off it was very good. Bar prices are reasonable ,dinner good and probably the best cooked breakfast we've had at a 'chain' hotel. Plenty of parking and caters for the disabled visitor with lifts etc.
As nights in holiday inns go this has to be one of the worse. Arriving late there was an event on with the bar and lounge area looking like a war zone. Fortunately and excellent pub just down the road provided sanctuary. On returning to the hotel and getting back to my room I found the corner of the bed wet as the sprinkler was leaking... Joy. Eventually getting to sleep awoken at twenty to two by the fire alarm then again fifteen minutes later. I learned the following morning this was due to kids setting it off. The hotel clearly has issues and is a disappointment.
For the money this hotel wasn't bad. I booked based on location and also last minute. I found the room ok, staff pleasant and generally an all round OK budget hotel. I'd use this place again based on availability of others but I wouldn't be my first choice
Stayed here one night mid week for a company training event and I wasn’t disappointed. The hotel staff were efficient from start to end, my room was clean and comfortable, the conference facilities were ok as were the few snacks and drinks laid on during the day. Breakfast was good for choice and well cooked. The set lunch and supper were good as well, would recommend for a similar event again.
The receptionist that checked me in was friendly but sadly it was all downhill from there... the carpet is torn in places and stuck together with equally damaged black tape, tiles are cracked, decor is very tired. Cobwebs on extinguishers and dust on the table height dado rail is not what you want to see in a dining room! My salad dinner arrived with 2 main ingredients missing without any pre-information or comment when it arrived and when I was looking for a staff member to ask about it none were in the restaurant... eventually one came and said ‘sorry, you should have been told when you ordered it’ and later I saw the other 2 waitresses chatting and on their mobiles in reception. In my opinion staff (including one that looked like a manager) need complaint handling training because all they can say is ‘sorry’ with a shoulder shrug and sad smile. The hairdryer in the room sounded more like a blender and then stopped working, thankfully the receptionist brought a spare. This hotel was not the best example of the usual Holiday Inn experience
