For the money this hotel wasn't bad. I booked based on location and also last minute. I found the room ok, staff pleasant and generally an all round OK budget hotel. I'd use this place again based on availability of others but I wouldn't be my first choice
Stayed here one night mid week for a company training event and I wasn’t disappointed. The hotel staff were efficient from start to end, my room was clean and comfortable, the conference facilities were ok as were the few snacks and drinks laid on during the day. Breakfast was good for choice and well cooked. The set lunch and supper were good as well, would recommend for a similar event again.
The receptionist that checked me in was friendly but sadly it was all downhill from there... the carpet is torn in places and stuck together with equally damaged black tape, tiles are cracked, decor is very tired. Cobwebs on extinguishers and dust on the table height dado rail is not what you want to see in a dining room! My salad dinner arrived with 2 main ingredients missing without any pre-information or comment when it arrived and when I was looking for a staff member to ask about it none were in the restaurant... eventually one came and said ‘sorry, you should have been told when you ordered it’ and later I saw the other 2 waitresses chatting and on their mobiles in reception. In my opinion staff (including one that looked like a manager) need complaint handling training because all they can say is ‘sorry’ with a shoulder shrug and sad smile. The hairdryer in the room sounded more like a blender and then stopped working, thankfully the receptionist brought a spare. This hotel was not the best example of the usual Holiday Inn experience
I can start the review off by saying the hotel receptionists where friendly, and prompt at checking me in but I’m afraid that’s the only praise I can find for the hotel. The decor can only be described as dated, worn and in need of a total re-fit! The carpets are old and worn. The sofas in the room were very dated and my bed very lumpy and uncomfortable. Why can’t there just be a light on the ceiling as supposed to lots of bed side lights which had to be individually turned on ? No bed side plug sockets and internet that is very Slow. The breakfast looked like it had been out since opening and by the time I arrived it had been under the heater for some time. The glasses where filthy, the first plate I picked up had a yellow dried on stain underneath and the next was greasy from the mount the plates where held in. The coffee tasted err not great too. I’m not one to normally be picky and have stayed in many holiday inn’s but this falls way short of what you would expect or even tolerate.
I am so gutted having to write this review as mine on here are usually glowing and truthful. However we had a family gathering yesterday, planned some months ago now, supposedly a festive santa afternoon meal/treat. Members of our family usually get together just before Christmas. From the moment we entered at reception we were met by having to pay up-front before we entered into the interior rooms. Half an hour was then spent trying to solve why?? our party were apparently £11+ in the red!!! Right through to trying to get a drink at the bar, it was an absolute joke and then the finale, the meal itself. The food was not good to say the least, all of it, dirty tablecloths, very poor quality seating, shabby and totally not what was expected after being met months before at reception and really looking forward to our annual gathering. I could go into fine detail regarding the food from most of the veg not cooked only shown the heating element. The pre-meal latte I had was luke warm, the children's portions were definitely children's, no mistaking that one, served on a side plate size. The panettone/bread and butter pudding was a large chunk of definitely chunky bread with a few sultanas thrown in and literally a dessert spoon size of custard. The black forest roulade came out as a meringue nest with a few berries similar to the frozen ones which were served up at the starter with the melon. In addition, one of our party was gluten-free and we were reassured that he could be catered for, no problem. However this was not the case on the day. They appeared to have not got the cooking right, not got the portion sizings right, not got the staffing levels right and I felt so sorry for the staff as they were obviously acting under supervision from above. Totally not going there ever again. At age 67 we have been to some quite lovely eating establishments and some middle of the road ones and some very lovely low budget ones too but I have never experienced anything quite like this from such a magnificent looking exterior building/hotel. So sorry to have to write this. We were only there to eat and not as in-house guests so cannot comment on staying at this hotel.
At a wedding on 5th November I had the unfortunate error of judgement to think it would be a good idea to open a bar tab, just in case I ran out of money. Having only bought one drink for myself & my partner on the bar tab when we went to leave, a Stella for him, a Gin & Tonic for me, I went to the front desk to settle up. The rest of our drinks I had paid cash for. At the front desk advise me they had not rung up any of the bar tabs yet, so the lady on the desk asked me to go back in around 10 minutes. I went back in around 20 minutes and she advised me they could not ascertain what drinks were mine, so they would not charge me. OK... I thought, (shame I'd paid cash for so many drinks) but fine. We left. Next Tuesday, 28th November, I noted a charge of £30.20 had gone through my bank. I rang, lady tells me she will look into it, rang back later to be given a list of drinks, wine, Budweiser, Becks that had made up the total charged. I told her I had only had Gin & Tonic all night,my partner Stella, so they were not my drinks, after some time I'm advised I will be refunded 26.25. Several days later on the 5th December I ring back, no sign of any refund yet, I'm assured a full refund was processed on the 29th November, I urge them to check as nothing is in my bank, not even a pending payment. Now the the 8th December, no sign of any refund. I rang back 1pm, the manager is busy on the phone, after waiting 5 mins on the line am told they will get the manager to ring me. Now 2pm no ring back, they really don't give a toss. What can I say, robbing bar stewards. Please don't get a tab with them they really don't know what they are doing
I spoke with the Sales manager Lou Bell and she was very rude to me. Basically an incident happened at the the Holiday inn Leeds Brighouse where they took a deposit for Christmas Day Lunch and denied taking it. Lou got involved raising her voice at me and being cheeky. I don't know why Lou got involved as they are totally different Holiday inns and I am absolutely discussed with her attitude. It was uncalled for. I have travelled and stayed at a lot of hotels but by far this is one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Please do invest in more staff training.
The bedroom had clearly not been properly cleaned for some time judging by the amount of accumulated dust. Damp and mould on the ceiling in the bedroom. The shower mixer tap delivered either scalding hot or cold water. The extractor fan in the bathroom was not working. The dining room furniture would have been better placed in a a skip given the state of them. I have never in all my years seen such a sad state in a hotel with every aspect needing a vast improvement to even warrant being termed a hotel unless Fawley Towers is the standard aimed for and even that was not achieved!
Oh dear! Not a great Christmassy experience. Booked for the Eighties Christmas party night first week in December. Started off poorly with only one member of staff on an extremely busy bar so a fair bit of pushing and shoving at the bar. £26 for a bottle of Rose seemed, shall we say, a tad expensive. Through to the dining room - a distinct lack of anything Christmassy about the room apart from some distinctly underwhelming Christmas crackers. The food? I am by no stretch of the imagination a foodie but really??!! £19.95 for two courses (although for some reason you did get a bread bun to begin with!) which sounds like good value, but sad to say what was served looked like a readymeal - bland, tepid, unappealing. The dessert - chocolate tart, fine but rock hard! The staff (of which I counted about two) were too busy to be attentive or interested. 12pm last orders - but shame that staff started stacking chairs up at 11.30 (from tables where people had left). It's a shame and disappointing that the evening didn't live up to expectations. I know of several people who have attended events here over last few weeks and none would return any time soon.
Booked this room through my IHG account for a friend's wedding reception. The room was tired and on need of an update. The shower thermostat was either scalding hot or cold. The chairs in the ground floor bar were falling to pieces, the joints on most were visible and in need of repair/renewal.The sofas were stained. The bartender was disinterested and unhelpful. Poor customer service. The breakfast was totally disorganised and poorly set up. Received poor customer service once again from the same young man who was on the bar the night before. His female colleague was very helpful and professional however As were the reception staff. Overall would not recommend staying here.
