Booked this room through my IHG account for a friend's wedding reception. The room was tired and on need of an update. The shower thermostat was either scalding hot or cold. The chairs in the ground floor bar were falling to pieces, the joints on most were visible and in need of repair/renewal.The sofas were stained. The bartender was disinterested and unhelpful. Poor customer service. The breakfast was totally disorganised and poorly set up. Received poor customer service once again from the same young man who was on the bar the night before. His female colleague was very helpful and professional however As were the reception staff. Overall would not recommend staying here.
The hotel is situated in a country location whilst being just a short distance from the motorway. The hotel is also surrounded by farmland and on arrival we were met by a strong smell from the neighbouring fields. Our first impression was of a typical old country hotel which appeared most inviting from the outside. Upon entering the hotel we received a warm welcome from Andrea on Reception who quickly checked us into our Executive Room on the second floor. Although the hotel appears quite old and in need of modernisation our room was extremely comfortable and very clean. We had booked our stay to include Dinner, Bed & Breakfast and when we arrived at the room marked "restaurant" we discovered that this was only being used for breakfast and that dinner was being served in the bar. The tables are old and not what you would expect dinner being served to guests. None of the tables had been set for dinner even though it was past the time when dinner was due to commence. The food when it arrived was hot, tasty and most enjoyable. Breakfast the next morning was extremely disorganised with nearly all the hot trays empty and no sign of them being replenished. Several items stated on the breakfast menu did not appear to be there and the assortment of fresh breads not available. We had to request more bacon, eggs etc to be brought out together with bread for toast and had to wait sometime for these to be replenished. This was the most disappointing part of our stay and certainly needs attention especially if this is a regular occurrence. The hotel is in need of investment for a modernisation programme and if this can be accomplished whilst still retaining it`s rustic charm then it will be a desirable hotel to visit. Until this happens I`m afraid we may not return to stay which is a great shame.
Just a one night stop over. On arrival building looks good. Check in okay. Room was tired and dated. Coffee table was wonky, tv set up was terribly dated and limited channels. All very 80's feel about it. Bed was lumpy and hard. Went the bar for a drink and something to eat. Three staff in the bar area that seemed unaware of the presence of customers. Waited and waited. The lady from check in appeared and went to find somebody to serve in the bar. The queue was now five people. One chap gave up. Eventually got my drink and headed for the lounge area with a large TV blaring out. Gave up on that and din't bother to eat as the service was so slow. Needs a good revamp and staff training to get this one back up to standard. Was given a call from the hotel next day regarding the situation. Kudos for the follow up.
My wife and I were invited to the 40th anniversary do of some old friends of ours here so we decided to book a room. It's a nice hotel, looking a bit tired in places but still nice. The room and bed was comfortable enough, everything you need for a pleasant stay. The function room we were in was a good size with a decent well stocked bar. The bar staff were very helpful and friendly. A very pleasant surprise was the price of the drinks. Because it was a hotel I expected ridiculous prices but no, they were very reasonable, only slightly more expensive than a pub. Unfortunately, the next morning was a bit disappointing. Breakfast was poor. Even though the breakfast room was not very busy the help yourself buffet was not kept stocked enough to be able to get everything in one go. Maybe we came at the wrong moment? All in all a pleasant stay but the breakfast could do with some improvement.
We had a family wedding here. The reception area is well presented, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The communal areas however, were poor. Carpets are literally worn through. Toilets dirty and in poor condition. The wedding itself went ok but the serving staff for the meal seemed uninterested, and the horseradish sauce and gravy came out after people had eaten. Breakfast is a buffet, nice food and regularly refreshed. For a venue charging quite high room rates, this is not good value.
I have stoped here a few times before when on business in Leeds. The hotel is in pretty grounds with quick access to the motorway. Room condition is clean and tidy but a bit dated, i received an update grade to an executive room which had a separate lounge. Unfortunately the bed was a bit uncomfortable as you could feel the springs and was certainly not the most comfortable of beds. Breakfast was of a good standard and a buffet style with a good choice of eggs and hot food. Unfortunately the dinning room is also looking a bit tied and I need of modernisation.
Last minute booking after a tiring day. Given last room which was over the bar. Room 102 is incredibly noisy. Staff pulled out the stops to move us, which we really appreciated. Plumbing noisy enough in new room to wake us and keep us awake for 30 mins twice through the night. Hotel is looking tired and in need of some investment, On the positive side staff were great, happy, friendly and helpful
This is an embarrassment to the brand, worn out and dirty carpets, worn out chairs in the dinning room, even broken chairs in the bar area. The whole place is very tired, shabby, in the public areas, the standard rooms are a hark back to the 1970s, I travel every week for work rightr across the UK, i never write reviews, i never have to (we only use this chain and one other premier one), but this place is the worst hotel year to date and the second worst over the last three years, stay away!
I want to be honest about this place. We have stayed here before and know what it's like. We paid less than half that we would have paid in central Leeds that night. Car parking was free too. The setting is brilliant. Our executive room was adequate. We had been forewarned about 'the weddings' by phone a few days prior. Yes it was noisy. Not sure why there were young children running around/lying in the corridors at around 23.00. Maybe I'm getting too old to stay in hotels at the weekend. To be fair the noise died down soon after midnight and all was quiet. Breakfast was good - this is something that I have complained about in the past. There seem to be a number of Fawlty Towers references in other reviews. I admit to using the reference whenever we got in the lift, which made a very loud bang on closing and went down an inch when you stepped inside. Other than that it was OK. Oh yes the central heating was good but very noisy and no aircon - but we didn't need that. Maybe the bar staff need a bit more training. One of the girls didn't know how to work the coffee machine and produce a latte and another one asked if I wanted milk with a latte. Yes I'd stay here again especially if we get a free newspaper (as ihg members obviously).
Extremely poor service, prices changes for the same drink on the evenings. A distinct lack of general service (dirty glasses and plates left on the table for prolonged periods) plus only one person on the bar during the day.
