This hotel was awful. I've never had a worse experience in a hotel in my life. The pictures are misleading, I will never return, and strongly urge everyone to stay away from this place. The building was shabby, old, run down, and frankly disgusting. When we arrived at the reception desk, the man there barely spoke English or French and didn't understand us when we asked about parking. After getting our key, we went in the elevator to go to our room. I thought I was going to be stuck in there and die. It was tiny, and it made weird scraping noises as it shuddered up the shaft. Two of the four walls were non existent, so you had a plain view of the shaft. Scariest elevator ever. We finally arrived at our room, and were disgusted. The room was completely out of repair, the shower, soap dispenser, and toilet seat were all broken. The room felt unsafe, and I felt like I was in a drug house. The bathroom stunk of feces and the room smelled like French fry grease from a neighboring building. There was no AC and we were so hot all night. The beds were sub par, and my poor grandmother's bed was in a side room that was dark, and frankly, looked like a hole in the wall. In no way was this a "Comfort" and "Luxury" room. I wasn't expecting anything amazing at this price, but in no way was it worth the money I paid. We felt so unsafe we didn't feel comfortable leaving our computers in the room so we lugged them around with us to the beach (the safes were too small). The maid service didn't clean the sand from the floor, or even replace our dirty sheets. During the night (despite closed windows) my friend and I got many suspicious bug bites that itched and itched. Overall, it was a disgusting experience and tarnished our fun beach vacation. They should've paid us to stay there. The breakfast was not good, and the restaurants surrounding we seedy as well. The only good part was how close it was to the beach, but there are plenty of other hotels that are just as close or closer. Whatever you do, avoid staying at this dump at all costs.
We had to stay at this place whilst driving through Belgium to make the journey shorter... You learn from your mistakes . We certainly have. Very uncomfortable bed . Tiny and smelly room . For 80€ a night this is not good . But it offers surprisingly good breakfast including that price , only reason I gave those stars . Otherwise I'd not recommend. We paid 22€ for overnight car park too in the nearby casino underground parking !! The town itself not even worth seeing . We were so very glad that this was only for one night , we left very early in the morning after breakfast. Happy holidays:)))
We stayed here for a couple of days and being diplomatic I would just day there is massive space for improvements inside the hotel, room, breakfast, etc. Another note for the complete rudeness of the staff. Believe there should be better offers somewhere around.
Just got back from a 3 night stay at the Hotel Albert II and overall I was happy with everything. We travelled in a party of 4 myself, my partner and his parents. Our rooms were fine, cleaned everyday the bathroom was spacious and clean a continental breakfast was included which was good there was a choice of fruit, croissant's, cereal, bread, chesses, meats, eggs (boiled and scrambled) bacon, fruit juice, tea & coffee. The hotel was situated in a pedestrianized area in the town of Oostende which was great for exploring we were close to all shops and bars ect. I would highly recommend a visit to the Spanish Inn (a little pub and apparently one of the oldest building's in Oostende) which had a great atmosphere and also Cafe Botteltje which stocks over 300 Belgium beers. After reading other reviews that have been left about this hotel I think it's important to remember that it is classed as a 2 star. If the staff are friendly and helpful which they were very much so, the bed is clean and you have a shower that works what more could you need.. Lets face it no one goes on holiday to stay in their hotel room. I'd have no qualms in staying here again, this is a budget hotel and you absolutely get what you pay for.
The hotel was almost full when we stayed so there was limited options for changing rooms. The room we had was small and the window looked like it might fall out. The shower room was very small and cramped when using the shower, sink or toilet. The beds were not of a good standard. It may be that there are rooms that have been refurbished that are more comfortable.
there is only one lift and you have to walk up stairs to get to reception, the building is clean, the room was clean, the bed was ok, we had to ask for pillows at reception, what was on the bed were more like cushions, but there were no problems getting 2 pillows, bathroom was very small, but big enough, the only drawback was the only mirror was above the sink and there wasn't enough room to look at yourself when ready, but we managed. the hotel is close to the beach, shops and cafes, pubs etc, so good location
We went as a group of 21 people and most of us had stayed here before. It's an old building so you have to take this into consideration. The dining area is a decent size and the breakfast is fabulous. No complaints on the food side of things. The lift is tiny, temperamental and old-fashioned (not in a nice way). The staff are pleasant and helpful. However the rooms vary enormously! We went with a disabled group but they are mostly special needs rather than physically disabled. The room I was sharing was bright, clean, warm and looked out onto the pedestrianised street. Everything worked fine. However the lady who was sharing the room opposite couldn't get the electronic doorkey to work so had to go back to reception for a real key. Once in she was disappointed on several levels. The wardrobe door wouldn't open due to furniture in front of it, the heating wouldn't work, the view was of a dip in the roof full of fag ends. Another person who was in a single room had the heating full on and even the staff couldn't turn it off so he was moved to another room. He awoke at 2am scratching like mad and next day was visibly covered in insect bites. We all experienced a couple of power cuts in the two days that we stayed there. When we checked out they kindly let us leave all our luggage in one of the rooms near reception which hadn't been cleaned. How long it hadn't been cleaned for I don't know as there was a half empty cup of coffee with mould growing on it! On the plus side it is at the top of the main shopping street and only a couple of minutes walk to the seaside. Despite being in the front of the hotel we weren't disturbed by any noise. It's a cheap hotel but it is definitely a lottery when it comes to rooms.
Old but very clean and pleasant hotel in the city center. 500 m from the sea. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are not big but nice and clean. Good beds. Very good breakfast. we only stayed one night but it was a pleasure to be there
This is hotel is grotty. Was once a lovely old building. Supposed to have had renovation work. God knows where. Everywhere is brown ceramic tiles. Bathroom was dirty, Had unemptied bin, rough towels, dirty paintwork, no key available from reception for safe, poorly operating doorkeys. Not a good experience.
We have stayed at Albert 1 Hotel several times and have never been disappointed. The rooms are always very clean. The buffet continental breakfast is plentyful and fresh assisted by an always pleasant and helpful waitress. We stayed in room 31 which has recently been refurbished. The hotel is very well situated only 100 metres from the T Zand underground car park, all of the shops and the great Saturday market. Many thanks for another great stay.
