Conveniently situated for the Ypres Salient battlefield, but a mile out of town, so it's a 30 minute walk or a taxi. Restaurant closed on Sundays, so a visit to town centre was needed, and of course if you want to see (and hear) the last post at the Menin Gate, you have to go there. The hotel is a little tired, the grounds visible from the restaurant appear to be awaiting a tidy up. Excellent breakfast, but the dinner served to our large group was no better than average, and a set menu so no choice. Not sure what happens when it's full of people who aren't together. Acceptable, but no more than that.
This place is worth every Euro one pays. The breakfast was very good with a big variety of food. The bathroom design provides the feeling about a high-end accommodation. The bed was a little bit too soft but it's always a matter of preference.
Recently stay here and enjoyed it. The staff are really friendly and nothing is too much of a problem. The hotel rooms and public areas are keep clean to a very high standard and in January the room and areas open to guests were kept warm. It has been well thought out and caters well for disabled clients with plenty of ramps for ease of movement. There is also a lift for disabled users to travel between floors. Our stay included breakfast in our price and there was basically something for everyone, ranging from "cooked" to continental and most things in between. The hotel is located on the outskirts of the town of Ypres, therefore to visit the town is about 15-30 minutes on foot depending where you want to go and the route you take. We had a car and with the aid of a tom-tom the town centre was a 5 minute ride on a Saturday afternoon. The hotel and rooms are built useing a mixture of modern and traditional wooden building materials and this gives the appearance of a typical grand European hunting lodge. The hotel is set back from the road, which means, depending where your room is located, you never hear it (I doubt if you would if your room was at the front). There is plenty of space for parking cars and vans and a fairly large outdoor are for dining or taking coffee during the warmer months. The restaurant, having stayed at a number of BW, we have found the restaurant's to be either dire or very good. The Flanders Lodge does not disappoint. There is a menu du jour that cost €20 per head and consists of 3 courses, it is great value if you like what they are serving. The Carte is not extensive, if this was because it was winter, I don't know. Though, the most expensive item at the time we where there, was an Irish rib-eye steak at €25 plus €2 for a sauce if desired. This compared to basically the same price for the same item in the town centre. The quality of the produce used was first rate and it was prepared well. Would I stay at Flanders lodge again, yes without hesitation and yes I do recommend it as well.
We were looking for a hotel in Ypres where we could park our car without a problem or additional costs. That's what we got. Had a very tasty Belgian beer at the bar (seats look a little bit worn out) and a good nights sleep in a nice and clean and heated bedroom. Efficient shower in the morning followed by an impressive breakfast buffett. Very friendly staff. Good stay and no complaints.
a most excellent stay. staff very helpful and obliging by pre-notifying a 3 course gluten free meal available every evening plus choice of breads for breakfast extra room aids provided for disability service made a good stay into an excellent one
This rating would have received 5 stars had the check in been smooth. I booked the hotel with Hotwire, the guy on the reception did not know what Hotwire is! The hotel is very clean, beds are very comfortable. Mike the bartender is just great, the lady at check out made everything smooth. She knows her business, and she knows customer service. Will most defiantly return!
Stayed here two separate nights en route to Ghent. Excellent breakfasts and very good evening meal. Staff mostly very friendly and helpful. My only grumble was when I asked for a spare blanket, there was no one at reception (late in evening) to help as no spares in the room! Very good parking. 20-25 minutes walk to the middle of Ypres. I would definitely stay here again.
BE AWARE!!!!.......Booked with Booking.com. When it came to check out the bill was £35 more then quoted. I questioned this and was told it's city tax or something. Have emailed booking to question this. Be aware your booking may not be as it seems "not very happy as I had paid for other people and cannot now to them and ask for more money"
Rooms were spotlessly clean and tidy Evening meal in the restaurant was good with a lemon mousse to die for. All diets were catered for. nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were efficient and professional though out our stay would stay here again
Hotel entrance and location: situated in an industrial estate just outside leper (Ypers) and as you drive up to it you wonder what it will be like but these fears are quickly allayed as the entrance is modern and landscaped to hide the surrounding buildings. It is surrounded by factories but are hidden from view and at the weekend very quiet. Car park isn't tarmaced so watch how you go when you leave. Staff: found them to be helpful, polite and accommodating. The receptionist sorted out our rooms quickly then booked our taxi into Menim Gate. Bar staff were quick and polite and ensured we had salty snacks to help with our drinking, as if we needed help! Following day the staff at breakfast were the same standard we had already experienced, I.e. Excellent Room: excellent! Spacious, clean, comfortable with all the additional bits a good hotel provides. Coffee making facilities, tv showing English channels, and all the stuff you require in the shower. Only complaint would be the lighting as it was a bit dim, but a minor dislike. Restaurant: only ate breakfast which that was plentiful and delicious. If numbers are any indication then the restaurant was packed for evening meal but I dined in Ypers so cannot make a comment Conclusion: excellent hotel which is off the beaten track but provides all that you require if you are visiting the WW1 battle sites. Great staff, great rooms, great hotel
