We were on a bus trip so came into the hotel from the car park which was easy enough. However, we were a group of mixed ages including quite elderly which made going down to the town and other attractions quite difficult for some as there is no lift down to the reception level. You have to walk down a boardwalk type arrangement which includes a lot of stairs. It actually meant some of our group didn't go out much while we were staying there. A small courtesy bus would be a great idea here. Other than that the rooms were quite nice, clean and had basic inclusions. There was a nice sitting area and our room overlooked the harbour.
We were 2 couples, happy to share so booked a 2 bedroom unit. Large spacious area that contained a double & a single bed in the living area, with a single bed in a tiny space that only had room for a single bed & nothing else - we think it may have been a cupboard in another life? So other than sleeping 3 in 1 room & 1 in another, and incidentally the "cupboard" had no door, everything was fine - lucky we're good friends!
Spent two nights at the waterfront units. Rooms were clean and well laid out with great view adjacent to main street.WiFi was very weak &intermittent. Shower nozzle was fixed which meant bath mats & floor got soaked. Sink taps dripped noisily &incessantly and needed really heavy force to switch off. Breakfast was pleasant with a good array of offerings, Our waitress fell into deep conversation with new venue employees for the bulk of our meal including unprofessional criticism of competitor' river cruse boat all whilst her peer served. The seafood buffet was well worth booking in for esp as the seats we had looked over the beautiful harbour. Disappointingly the champagne we had wasn't very cold. In fairness the check-in staff were very friendly and proactive with minor requests. he rooms and stairway to the dining room are tired and need a refurb; appreciating that this isn't cheap To summarise, this venue has a great location, our package was cost-effective &gets the basics right and is well worth considering. It could use a little polish on customer service which may be hard give staff turnover/transience due to its remote location.
We stayed here for two nights and we really enjoyed it. We had a hilltop harbor view room, view was so nice from our little balcony and the room very clean and comfortable. Plenty of parking available at the back of the building and there is a good easy boardwalk and steps down to the Main Street and town. All staff very friendly and helpful, will definitely be back when we visit Strahan
Strahan Village appear to own the prime location accommodation, restaurants and touring businesses in the charming little town of Strahan(pronounce Stroan). They are situated on the Esplanade at the apex of the harbour, therefore all these businesses have fantastic views overlooking the harbour. We booked a Hilltop standard room, this was in a complex up on the hill, which also includes a restaurant valled View 42. Pls note that they also have the "village cottage" style accommodation and restaurants down on the Esplanade. Our room had views to the rear carpark though, and I suppose an upgrade would have been required for a room with harbour views. It seems to be the philosophy of this company that they will give you good basic quality, and then charge for every other little upgrade ( it was the same approach on the Gordon River cruise that the same company operates). The hotel corridors look drab like a bad motel's, but the room was clean, painted in nice warm tones and smelling pleasantly. The room was heated and welcoming. The furnishing are functional, both in the room and the bathroom. The towels, bedding, and toiletries are good quality. The staff were helpful and polite. The room was serviced the next day (as we stayed for 2 nights). The restaurant has a beuatiful terrace overlooking the harbour. This has the best views in town of the sun setting over the harbour, a photographer's dream. Access to the complex is by walking via the restaurant, terrace and stairs going down to the harrbour, or via a short steep road and car. The restaurant only offers a Buffet style dinner (all you can eat at $52/person) and breakfast at $27/pers. You have alternatives down on the Esplanade, in the company's other restaurants there, eg Hamers, which offers an excellent grilled local fresh fish, the ocean trout, and great ice cream from local dairy. Nearby you can take the Esplanade walk, towards the Hogarth Fall (not to be missed) the Train station and even the cemetery is an interesting place to visit. Overall we were very satisfied with the stay in this beautiful little town.
8 of us had 3 rooms right on the street with the best views to admire from the shared verandah. One of the rooms had two separate bedrooms, a small kitchen and easily slept 5 people. The staff were really friendly from booking to checking in. This hotel has a range of rooms but I would always stay on the street as it was also like a house. The other point worth noting is, the rooms are a couple of doors from the pub and basically right there with easy access to everything. The only downside is the rooms are showing some wear but they were clean.
Me and 3 other girls stayed here overnight as the following morning had to wake early to do the Gordon River Cruise, it was clean and the beds were comfortable, only dissappointment was the pillows could be a little bit firmer otherwise was a comfortable stay.
We stayed 2 nights upstairs across from the docks in Strahan, in a spa room, a lovely balcony, beautiful views clean room, big bed, wonderful and relaxing. Awesome river cruise on the Lady Jane II with terrific staff. Even the weather couldn't turn us off, rain, hail wind and sunshine, still loved every minute, Awesome place to stay. some places to eat are overpriced, but look around, it depends on what you want
We stayed here for one night on our way around Tasmania. The hotel was clean and tidy and met all requirements for our stay. We had one of the rooms leading directly onto the car park at the back of the main building, if we were to stay here again we would probably pick one of the front rooms just so we could wake up to a fantastic view in the morning. Whilst the decor is a little bit dated it is clean, water pressure if great, and staff are friendly. There is a restaurant on the premises and breakfast can be included in your stay for extra $. We chose to eat in town though in order to see as much as possible in our short stay. The village has wifi although it is intermittent and not a strong signal. If you are travelling and have need of your mobile or internet anywhere on this side of Tasmania...highly suggest you go with TELSTRA as they have a monopoly on this side of Tasmania. I would recommend this hotel for a stay, we were happy enough with the service we received, The front desk people were informative and provided information for our trip up to Cradle Mountain which was greatly appreciated..
Stayed in a water front cottage with lovely views across the road and park from the dock. About 50 metres from the front door to the water. The cottage was small but suited to a couple and the bathroom size was more than adequate for 2. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was well received. Short walk to the cruise boats and the pub which was the closest venue for dinner. There is a restaurant on site that offers a extensive buffet but the prices are high. There is no microwave or plates, cutlery etc so eating in your room is limited.
