We were fortunate to be able to take advantage of a mid-winter two-night special price deal which made the price very affordable. We enjoyed our stay immensely - the 'continental breakfast' was the best we had ever had - and the staff were very informative and friendly - it all contributes to a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is right in the middle of the town within easy walk to many of the other venues and attractions. Being winter, the town was quieter, easier to get restaurant bookings, and good photo opportunities without the summer glare.
Stayed one night to enable us to take Gordon River Cruise. The split level room was quite nice but nothing outstanding. There is a small balcony with a great view over the harbour however the temperature didn't encourage venturing outside unnecessarily. Dinner wasn't available in the restaurant during winter, only buffet breakfast. Many of the dining establishments in the main street were 'above average' in price which we felt was aimed at the tourists. Found a 'chain' café that did an excellent job for half the price. Staff at the hotel were a little indifferent and lacked enthusiasm. Had a person knock on our door at 4.00pm and enter without waiting but he was surprised to see us in the room. Stated he was checking maintenance but his appearance certainly didn't reflect a staff person. Checked with reception and was advised he was an employee. Needs to learn to knock and wait. Would I stay there again - would look around at others but it has a great position.
People visit Strahan for many reasons. To explore the river ways & wilderness or to relax. Strahan Village caters for all. The most basic of rooms contain more than many standard motels. Spacious, comfortable rooms with added extras. A short stroll to the bar and dining areas where spectacular views are to be had. The fire place & library add to the ambiance and there's even a community jig saw available to while away the time. The extensive deck would be magic on sunny days. If the weather doesn't lend itself to outside dining the large glass windows offers the same views.
We loved the great views from our split level room overlooking the harbour BUT how annoying the ULTRA slow (included in price) internet. We chose a hill top room which had a small balcony. Great location. Clean and well designed room with a slightly noisy heater. FABULOUS shower.
Being successful bidders at a fundraising silent auction we looked forward to our West Coast package which included 2 nights at Strahan Village, Gordon River cruise and the Wilderness Railway trip. Strahan Village whilst a wonderful location was very disappointing. The facility is tired badly in need of a makeover. Staff were way short of what is expected particularly when they are showcasing a fabulous tourism experience. The breakfast waitress was more interested in her mobile phone than attending to her customers. The evening bar stewardess was downright rude to us to such an extent we went down to the village for our drink. We were surprised by the degree of non professionalism and polish given it is an RACT facility.
Our two bedroom apartment was clean and comfortable and more than adequate for our three night stay. It was an easy walk to a cafe, supermarket and waterfront. The room, although not up to the minute, was adequately furnished and had all the kitchen requirements for breakfasts before hitting the road. The wifi was a dollar a day.
Stayed two nights last week in the cottages, very comfortable. Well finished and furnished, good heating (necessary last week!) Reception service very good, allowed us to leave early without penalty as weather approaching. Great little spot.
great location opposite the water and close to restaurants. Great price during winter specials. staff were friendly and helpful. SImple but comfortable accomodation which was perfect for what we wanted Good base to explore the gorgeous west coast
We stayed here the night before our Gordan river cruise. Staff were friendly and helpful in suggestions of where to eat. Albeit there were only two options in this small town. The room was clean and warm, but very dated decor. But it was exactly what we needed a room within walking distance of our tour in the morning. There is buffet breakfast, but it doesn't open until 9am. And both tours of the Gordan river start at 9am. There is a lovely cafe (banjos) that opens at 6am
We stayed in the executive waterview room was which excellent. Beautiful views and great location. All good until at 4.50am the fire alarm sounded in the room. As you can imagine we flew out of bed and ran to the main entrance. We were the only ones staying there and could hear the alarms going off in all the other rooms. Realising this was a false alarm and after hubby rang the after hours number and was told someone was on their way we ventured back to our room. The alarm was turned off after 15 min. On check out I mentioned this and was told it was a false alarm and a very poor sorry. At this early hour of the morning we didn't know if it was a false alarm and found it a bit worrying that no one came to check on us after we ran round the place looking for a fire. But other than that frightening experience I would stay there again
