We were a group of six 60 year old guests staying in the home as a long weekend get-away.This is a nice home and most of our stay was as expected. It was not as clean as we would have liked, but it is the previous guests who do most of the cleaning for you, so it makes sense. There were crumbs of food left on the place mats and some of the dishes had some streaks of food on them, but we just washed them. The bathroom counters downstairs were also not clean, so we cleaned them prior to use. Perhaps we just have high expectations for cleanliness, as we always leave a house as clean as possible!
Two other things stood out to us. In the VRBO policies, it states that there will be no cameras in any living space. At this home there are two cameras in the pool area. I would clearly consider a built-in pool, directly outside the back door of the house, part of the outdoor living space, but the owner does not. Although we knew there were surveillance cameras, we had no idea they would be in an outdoor living space, especially in a pool area, where I prefer privacy when swimming and sun bathing. It felt like an intrusion, so if it concerns you that you will be video taped while playing in the pool, or sunning yourself, another house might be better.
The last thing that stood out were the RULES! We have stayed in many, many VRBO homes and have never seen so many rules. It wasn't even that the rules were so unusual, with the exception of the cleaning rules prior to check-out, but the rules were written as a strict teacher might write classroom rules, and there were signs to remind you of the rules. I am sure it must be hard for owners to find a way to let guests know their expectations, but rules signs are a bit much. They did provide the six of us with humor during the four days, though!
Following the checkout rules was a bit tricky. There are very specific rules about what to do with each piece of laundry, how to strip the beds, how to clean everything, and a reminder that you that you must sweep and vacuum before you leave. Never, in our many years of VRBO rentals have we seen a cleaning list like we saw at this home. We always do everything on the list anyway, but it might be difficult for families to get packed, as well as clean the house as expected.
We are rule followers so our stay was fine and, even with the noise from the trains and chickens, we enjoyed ourselves.
