Room furniture is old - gym is so small and not well equipped. Lobby is crowded.

The Alexandrian is a very nice hotel conveniently located in Old Alexandria. Enjoyed the many amenities of the surrounding area - restaurants, shopping, waterfront - and the fact that walking everywhere was so pleasant. A free trolley was convenient, too. The room was comfortable, attractive and clean and staff were great. Negatives were that the hotel parking garage's access was limited by low ceilings. Our compact vehicle was able to get in, but exiting was not without problems, since the automatic gate would never activate with the magnetic stripe ticket that was issued. Front desk had to be called each time. The other disappointment was that the lobby's complimentary coffee, in itself a welcoming gesture, was very unsavory by late in the day (tepid, with sour half-n-half). Thankfully, Starbucks is just up the street, so spending a few dollars there for fresh coffee was the alternative. Despite these downsides, I'd happily book this hotel again for the price paid.

The hotel was just beautiful, a little too pricey but worth it.

We had never been to Virginia and weren't sure where to stay or how we would get around and this place was the biggest surprise of our trip! It's right in King Street which we found out was the happening main strip so we jumped on the free trolley every day to escape the high heat and to sight see. We Ubered from the front door to D.C. for 10 bucks! The hotel is super friendly and accommodating not to mention decorated cool, just like the pictures show! We filled up our water bottles with lemon-strawberry water from the lobby and went out exploring. This place was more than we expected!!

This facility doesn't have the amenities that you expect from a Marriott hotel. It might be OK if you're visiting the area on holiday, but if you're traveling for business or a similar purpose, or are an early riser, it's not too convenient. I had to leave the hotel each morning to pickup coffee from the Starbucks down the street. While the hotel does provide coffee in the lobby or via room service, it didn't start early enough for my needs. Some of the staff members were outstanding - the bellstaff and a couple of the restaurant staff provided stellar service - but I didn't find the front desk staff to be overly helpful or friendly. When I had a problem with the in-room safe, the front desk person I spoke with seemed annoyed by the call and said that she would send someone to fix it. I waited awhile but no one showed up. I ended up Googling common issues with hotel room safes and resolved the problem on my own. The in-room check-out system was not operating, so I had to check out at the front desk. I never received an invoice for my stay. I was told that it would be emailed to me, but that never happened. When I called to request a copy, the accounting person was short and irritable. Other staff members seemed unhappy with their jobs, as well. While we were waiting for the airport shuttle on our last day, one woman who seemed to be a front desk manager was complaining loudly about a guest. We were sitting on the other side of the lobby and could easily hear her.

Great location. I loved the decor. I thought the parking was outrageous $32 (self parking) $38 ( valet) per night. I parked across the street for $10 per night. Very clean.

Lovely, comfortable hotel in downtown Alexandria, close to all attractions

In great location on King street. Close to shopping and restaurants. Easy to take trolley and metro into DC

It was a lovely hotel. Very close to restaurants.

I was looking forward to spending a night in a hotel that wasn't cookie cutter. This proved to be quite disappointing. The room was clean, staff wasn't particularly friendly or knowledgeable. Self-parking was $32 extra for one night. Lobby was very musty and the faucet in the shower was about to come off of the wall. Lovely location but price was not worth it for the amount of time I spent in the room. Wouldn't recommend. My credit card was charged more than my final bill and am still waiting for a call back to clarify. Was a bit averse to the fact that the down blanket was underneath the sheet, cleanliness is of the utmost importance to me.

Great location on King St in Alexandria. Close to many restaurants, bars and unique shopping. Friendly staff accommodated my early arrival. Deluxe room very comfortable, furniture a bit worn but extremely clean. Quirky style with a bit of whismy that sets the hotel apart from the generic hotel decor was appreciated. The crackling fire in the hotel lobby fireplace was a welcome refuge from the late spring storm.

Began with a call for pickup from airport, they said "Go to door 5, be there in 10 minutes." They took my phone number, but never came and didn't call. Took a cab. Had booked a terrace room, they took me to a non-terrace room. They DID fix this when I told them not the room I booked. Coffee urns in lobby always empty. Asked for wake-up calls (twice) which never came. Almost cost me missing the Inauguration in DC that I had come for. Phone in room was not cordless, and only one by the bed so I couldn't work at the desk and take/make calls. The door key went awry and wouldn't work one night when coming in late and had to wait for an engineer to come let me in which took 10 minutes. On the plus side, the location in Olde Town Alexandria was great, only 4 blocks to the waterfront and many restaurants in walking range which was good because their restaurant was overpriced and unappetizing. One morning I wanted room service, but was told it would be 90 minutes to 2 hours before they could come. Overall very disappointing as room cost was TRIPLED because it was the weekend of a Presidential Inauguration. Could possibly give them another chance at NORMAL room rates for the location alone but will not expect any personal services.

We reserved at the Hotel Monaco( Kimpton) and stayed at a Marriott.(They changed owners the day before we arrived!!) Big Difference! We were not advised in advance!! There was no coffee pot in the room! No robes! and No Fish! and No goodies at breakfast buffet! Just coffee. No break on the price even though we were the guinea pigs for all the new employees. Oh sorry we got cookies and milk! Will not stay again!!

This is my second time staying here and I like where it is in Old Alexandria. However, the bathrooms and showers could use a facelift. The beds were too soft and lacked support underneath. Very nice staff

The hotel is in a great location on King st. Walk a few blocks in either direction and there are plenty of restaurants and bars. It was a short drive into DC. Less than 10 minutes to the national harbor and about 20 min with traffic to the national mall. There is also a metro stop nearby the hotel. The room was spacious and had a nice sized bathroom. The parking at the hotel was $29, but there is a garage right next door that charges $5 for the day. I would definitely stay again when visiting DC.

Excellent staff! Very kind and helpful, the place has the aura of home somehow--small but useful touches, such as cold lemonade, great coffee and tea, apples... makes it like home. Clean rooms, and cleaning staff are careful not to get in your way. Location in Alexandria is excellent, with a pharmacy close by, and transport links too. I will be returning, and by then I hope the Metro is fixed so access to DC is better given the traffic jams of the city.

Staff was top notch. It's expensive, but then again the whole town is so you should already be aware of that. Great if you have pets. My kids spent their time in the pool which has a lifeguard on duty a nice feature if you are looking after more then one kid.

Stayed in the hotel to be close for the George Washington Parkway Ten Mile Classic. Great location and room.

The area of old town is awesome and very romantic. My girlfriend loved the area, water, restaurants, and shops. The hotel was beautiful . Room was very clean and the design was top notch . Definitely would come back to the hotel . Front seat service was top notch , 5 star bath room and amenities
