Four of us, two couples booked the 3 day weekend trip to Durham, Holy island and Beamish. We booked a weekend away with National Holidays. Often in the past we have found that the hotels are somewhat tired and in need of refurbishment. But the whole package is usually very good and the rooms are usually fair to middling with the bedding clean, food good and the staff are usually very good and try to please. We saw that the hotel was going to be The Holiday Inn and thought this would be a step up accommodation wise! The hotel lived up to our expectations in every way except the first evening meal which started with a choice of three starters and main courses with a sweet to follow. I along with most on our table had the soup, which obviously was a vegetable soup but I could not identify it by the look or taste. Then came the main course which I chose mince, mash and dumpling with a small portion of peas and carrots. This meal was one of the worst meals I have ever had in a hotel, it was bland, tasteless and put me in mind of hospital food. We really thought it let the hotel down badly, especially as it was a first impression of what were things to come. I have to say it wasn't and the two buffet style breakfasts and the remaining evening meal were very good in comparison. I would remove this meal from any future offerings if I had anything to do with running or advising the hotel!

As a basic cheap hotel there is nothing wrong with the Holiday inn, the room was an okay size and the wifi was fast enough for streaming. However, the hotel looked a bit tired with various scuff marks on the paint through the corridor and in the room. We had planned to go out but decided to order room service, this is where the hotel really let us down, our food was delivered by two young guys, my girlfriend was in her PJs so I asked them to wait in the corridor, they didn't and followed me into the room and just stood there. I had to ask them to leave the room! They then said the card machine may not work in the room so I would have to come down to the bar to pay, it will come as no surprise that the card machine did not work, after I hurried down to pay to try and avoid my food going cold, I discovered that I had wasted my time as it was already cold! It also managed to be both greasy and bland at the same time. We complained in the morning to the receptionist who apologetic but didn't offer anything other than that.

We had our wedding herr it was a fantastic day and night staff made sure sure everything was perfect would recommend it to everyone planning a wedding a really big thank you ftom mr@ mrs frank shoesmith x

Visited as part of a National holiday break for 2 nights. Room very pleasant and clean. Free wi fi good reception in the the room. Evening meal had 3 choices of starter, main and dessert surprised on the first night it was a choice of mince or fish and a vegetarian meal no carvery or chicken. Desserts all cold and didn't come with with cream or ice cream although the waiter did kindly bring us a very small jug of cream for 4 of us when we asked. Evening meal is waitress service but breakfast was buffet style and very enjoyable.

We came with a coach party and was well impressed with the room the breakfast was hot although could do with being replenshed quicker the room was well presented clean and tidy wish they could of had hot chocolate with the tea making stuff hotel is well situaded just of the a1

This hotel has plenty parking & welcoming check-in with reception staff very efficient & friendly. This is a large hotel but found our room quickly. Room had adequate space for the three of us with enough socket to charge phones & free WiFi. Bathroom was modern with walk-in shower, bathroom overall was a bit small but fine for our one night stay. Breakfast was busy but offered everything you would expect asked for veggie sausages was later told there was none so requested poached eggs which we had to remind staff about, in contrast to the friendly reception the restaurant staff seemed to lack direction also young female waitress chewing gum the whole time not a good look! - checkout friendly & efficient.

We stopped overnight as we were visiting nearby. Very comfortable bed, lovely room with a great view. Bathroom small but clean and tidy with a walk in shower. Breakfast very enjoyable and plenty of choice.

I don't even know where to start. Our stay was diabolical and the management were vile when complained to. Room was ok, bathroom disgusting, food, terrible. Party - an embarrassment. Staff were making up prices for drinks (we paid £29 for two drinks at one point and they were not champagne, just vodka, gin and mixers) Difficult to get in contact with, had to go through IHG, hard to get refunds out of and even then the amount refunded, for a £300+ stay for 2 nights at an awful hotel, was paltry. The manager of this hotel is a disgrace. I'll never stay at a Holiday Inn again. Don't book to stay here, do yourself a favour and go elsewhere x

£15 for an English breakfast is a p**s take. If you want a meal eat at the Toby Carvery 100 yards away (near Prem Inn) it is cheaper, fresher and better selection for breakfast and dinner. The hotel seems to think being miles from anywhere means you are a sucker for high prices.

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. Very dated building on the outside. Check in was easy and fast. Had a very quiet room on the third floor. No road noise even though the hotel is very close to the motorway. The air-con wasn't working and the shower rail (in the very small bathroom) was hanging of the wall. Reported to reception but the problems were never sorted. Breakfast was good with plenty to eat but a coffee/tea machine would help. Dining staff were hard to find for hot drinks.
