I have never been treated so well. A wonderful warm welcome and continued kindness through my whole visit. The use of the hot tub was so very welcome. Slept like a baby and enjoyed the beautiful restaurant attached the the hotel. Staff is incredibly kind and caring. Away from all the the hustle and bustle of Victoria, BC. Handy to shopping.
Whenever I have to go to Victoria, BC for business or pleasure I look forward to staying at the Howard Johnson Hotel and Suites - Elk Lake. The service is great, the staff is friendly and the rooms are clean, bright and welcoming.
One of the best hotels for price.Very clean and great staff. Also great food at Lakes restaurant. A must stay. Has pet friendly suites and close to stores and commonwealth pool. Can rent bike? Great bus service downtown close by.
we stayed here for a night. It was clean, convenient for our purpose and available. It is just off the highway close to two lakes and shopping is near by. My husband ate at the restaurant for breakfast and enjoyed it. I found the room comfortable yet a wee bit dated. We overlooked the pool which looked inviting. The room was furnished with coffee/tea maker water & cereal bars.A small fridge, microwave, safe and fan along with the usual bathroom supplies. I would stay again
A very nice place to stay on the edge of Victoria. There is easy access off the main highway and ample parking. The restaurant provides a wide range menu and is open all day. Later in the evening food may still be available in the Bar. It is located close to a swimming complex as well as 2 lakes with walking trails. Rooms are well maintained, reception is friendly and competent. It is our go to motel any time we visit Victoria.
For my first-ever stay at a Howard Johnson, I was impressed. Very nice rooms, well laid out, nice fittings and fixtures, great shower, I can't even tell you how comfortable the bed was, because I was unconscious as soon as my head hit the pillow! The only problem was that the "gym" was terrible! I went in for a quick workout before heading to my conference, and the three cheap pieces of aerobic equipment (spin bike, elliptical, and treadmill) were situated in a hot humid room with the hot tub. Much worse than the air quality, the humid environment made the equipment unusable due to rust! I gave up and went for a walk.
We stayed at the Hojo for the Labour Day weekend. We had great service. I want to thank Yuko for getting our room ready fast! We got there at 11:30 and our room was ready in an hour. This was a first and very appreciated! Very clean hotel and clean pool. Beds super comfy. I will definitely recommend this hotel. We will return again next year for the 5th time!
The hotel and staff for the most part were good. The on-sight restaurant had broken down air conditioning in the lounge. The food was relatively expensive, but the quality was good. The exercise equipment was another matter. First, the equipment is next to the hot tub. The stationary bike was an old manual friction type. The more modern treadmill didn't seem to work at all, or at least we couldn't manage to get it to work. Both the key for the treadmill and towels were only available at the front desk.
A family gathering in Victoria. Only problem was the relatives have downsized and had no room for 3 adults. The hotel's location was convenient to highway access; my brother's place; restaurants; & Sidney. The pool gets afternoon sun & is a peaceful spot to relax in between events.
I've stayed at this hotel several times. The first time, we had traveled for several hours with a one year old who refused to nap. We arrived at the hotel around noon and asked it if would be possible to check in early so that the baby could have a nap. The person at the front said that had been very busy and there was nothing available. He waited until 3:00 to finally let us check in. Because our child hadn't napped we essentially had to camp out in the lobby with a cranky child because we couldn't go anywhere with her in that state. Another time, I called ahead and asked about early check in as I would arrive very early on a flight. I had something scheduled for 11:00, but was hoping to maybe have a little rest beforehand given that I had to wake at 4 am that morning. I was told that the hotel was very busy for that night and that it probably wouldn't be possible. We arrived at the hotel at 8:30 am. The concierge told us that because they were so busy (the parking lot was half empty and this is not a location easily reached without a car) it wouldn't be likely. I went to my appt and hoped that something would be ready when I returned. My friend waited in the lobby and eventually in the bar and even though she asked several times about a ready room, there was still nothing. This place must have the slowest cleaning staff on record. We waited around and finally got a room at almost 3:00. I've dealt with the same person every time. He must have a monopoly on the front desk. My heart sinks when I walk in the door and see that he's the only person there. He seems to just not want to let people check in early. I totally understand why there is a check in time. However, I have travelled all over the world and stayed in a myriad of hotels. Very rarely, does a hotel not allow you to check in if there is a room ready. This particular concierge just seems to be on a sort of power trip and isn't reasonable. He kept stressing to me that the hotel was very full. We went out for the day and arrived back around 10 pm. The parking lot was again quite empty, lots of spaces. The next day, we went to breakfast and checked out at 11. We passed the lobby several times, but didn't see it that busy for check out. I really just don't understand this hotel's issue with checking in early. It's not something I do often, but when I have a crazy early morning flight, it's just nice to be able to arrive somewhere to freshen up and have a rest before having to go to meetings and appointments. In some ways, it's really about customer service and this particular gentleman doesn't get it.
