This hotel which is connected with a spar is really relaxing. The hotel is situated in a quiet forest setting. .The restaurant IS EXCELLENT with traditional French cooking. The spar has every convenience, for bring your body back to fitness
Booked the hotel late after bad experience at another hotel in the resort. Friendly and welcoming staff ensured we had a room to suit us. The room was spacious as was its balcony. The spa is as good as it gets with an enormous pool and all the usual add ons. the restaurant provides a first class menu and our waiter was able to explain all the dishes and suggest a wine to taste. Th hotel is near the beach and the excellent golf course. We would have liked to stay longer.
Pleasant stay over. Couldn't fault it for value. We arrived late at reception and a pleaant lady greeted us at near 11pm at night. We settled the kids quickly and managed to get a drink from the porter even though the bar was closed. Well deserved after 8hrs in car that day. Staff were very courteous and helpful although I was woken by a laundry truck outside our room at 6am!
We stayed in the Best Western apartments for our family of 6 on our last few days in France before we travelled up to Cherbourg to boat. This area broke the journey all the way from Dordogne for us. We were delighted with our apartment. It had a v big double room and bunk beds and a pull out sofa in the living area with a good kitchen and loads of storage area-so much so that mine took to a game of hide-and-seek straight away!! The hotel has its own entrance for apartments which is great as we didn't have to go through hotel each time, but reception were very helpful if needed-we hired a child's bike from them as they were v helpful. The hotel is at the end of beach near golf course but we had bikes so it was perfect for us to cycle on the brilliant cycle lanes along the prom and back. We drove into the town for dinner each night. We did try the thermo spa area and kids are only allowed in pool at certain times. As it's sea water and not v exciting for kids mine didn't want to do it again. Men need speedos for this area!! But we would definitely recommend these apartments for families who don't want to stay in campsite, it's perfect.
From the second we walked in (2 adults, 2 under 10) we were singularly unimpressed; and that experience didn't relent all 3 nights of our trip. A reception staff to whom a Hello/Bonjour is wasted patently; a menu that is limited at best and dining service that seemed to be one poor girl with a single manager who liked to swan around but achieve very little. The pool would be swamped by a lilo and that could similarly apply to the bathrooms- it's never pleasant stepping over the toilet to get to the shower. On the plus side the rooms are clean, the room service pleasant and the wifi is free. Unfortunately, I wouldn't bring a family here again. We spent all day out to avoid coming back for the evening: a sad indictment. On that basis the hotel works if you just want to get your head down but it's not welcoming. A shame for Best Western as the sister hotel in Le Tuoquet was great only a month ago.
We booked a week here via Brittany Ferries and weren't disappointed. The rooms are pleasantly furnished with balcony overlooking the grounds and outdoor pool. The beach is about 300m away and the main promenade a fifteen minute walk. Kids loved the small outdoor pool with some nice shady areas when the sun is hot. The adjoining spa is excellent especially the indoor spa pool. Breakfast buffet was good with fresh juice, decent coffee and continental breakfast. Good base for exploring the Vendee. Would be very happy to return.
Having read the reviews I assumed, mistakenly, that this hotel was near the restaurants and bars of St Jean. This is NOT the case. The walk to the nearest restaurants is a long way especially if you have a heart condition - which I do. Walking back by the beach would be hazardous and scary at night and there are stretches of the road without pavements. The only option - if not eating at the hotel - is to drive and not partake of the lovely Loire wine at dinner. Forget the golf club bar/restaurant - it closes at 7.30 pm. However the hotel was clean and once we got the barmen trained up a bit - the bar service was excellent. We ate twice at the hotel and they do some very nice food and a bit thank you to Siric (head waiter) for being so patient and translating the menu for us. Staff all very helpful although we were a little concerned when the breakfast waitress tried to mend the toaster by sticking a large bread knife into it! But no one was electrocuted so that's OK. We stayed in the area from 14th to 17th September and many places already shut for the winter. If you want lunch get to your restaurant by 1.15 or forget it!
We booked this hotel early on in the year and with a falling heart i watched the bad reviews build up. I was dreading this holiday so much due to the bad reviews that i was having sleepless nights. How stupid was I??? Firstly ... The OUTSIDE swimming pool. Children are allowed in this pool at anytime during the day. There are no restrictions what so ever. My children wore normal swimming trunks as did other children and grown men. Our boys spent many hours on this pool and loved it. The staff are great!! Did what they could to answer any question. Smiled, served us politely at the bar and were just fine. The restaurant was clean and breakfast was OK. It offered an assortment of breads, croissant, fruit, yoghurts, pancakes , ham.and cheese. Most importantly they served real coffee. No complaints. We did not eat lunch or dinner here so unable to comment. The hotel itself is a 5 minute walk to the beach and 15 minutes to the main promenade lined with bars and restaurants. You can either walk into town by going through the back of the hotel and along the footpath at the back of the beach or along the road. We often walked in one way and back the other. Both ways are a flat easy enjoyable walk. The rooms - There is no air conditioning bit we were told we could have a fan however we fell asleep with the balcony door open and it was very comfortable. The room we had was large. We had a bcony overlooking the pool, forest and sea. The room was for four of us (2 adults, 2 children) and was plenty big enough. My husband and i were in a huge double bed and there was a double sofa bed already pulled out for the children. We anticipated this so took a blow up single mattress for one of our children (he has eczema and figits all night, so nit great to share with) and he slept very well on it. Having this extra mattress made no.difference to the room. It was very spacious. We had a great holiday here. The hotel is really nice, we spent alternative days at the beach or by the pool, the resort has some lovely restaurants and is great for an evening cocktail and the hotel room balconies are ideal for sitting on at night sharing a bottle of wine. All four of us have said we would love to return and i think we probably will. I love France and i love the French peoole and this was such a fabulous holiday. Thank you x
Admittedly we booked relatively late (a few weeks in advanced) and the hotel is 3 star but felt that the price we paid was over the top compared with level of quality and service. We did not use pool or spa facilities so cannot comment on that. We had a comfort room which was very outdated and had no air conditioning. There was a nice balcony with sea view and unlike some reviews we found our bed very comfortable. The breakfast was acceptable (bread was good) but there was a lack of basic provisioning of water, hot food items etc. one guest had ordered breakfast in his room which came without butter or coffee!! The location is great and in easy reach of the beach, promenade etc. I would not stay here again.
Don't take notice of the negative comments written about this hotel! We have just stayed there for 9 days with our 4 year old and it was excellent. The hotels is friendly, clean, modern, with a great pool and restaurant. Its location for the beach and town is superb and the cycling is to die for. Some people I guess just need to get a life. This is not the Plaza Athene and nor should it be judged that way.
