Howard Johnson Hotel Downtown Vancouver

If it wasn't for being inexpensive at the last minute, I never would have stayed there. There was no remote for the tv, and when I asked the front desk for one, the response was less than accommodating. There were also no movies to rent. The bed was uncomfortable and poorly made. There also was no place for us to park our car. We were forced to park three blocks away. Lastly, when checking out we left $200 in a pair of pants on the closet shelf. Realizing our forgetfulness, we went back to the room only to find the jeans still on the shelf with no $200. The room had not even been cleaned yet, but someone went into the room to take the money out of the pants. It was only after I personally confronted a member of the housekeeping staff in front of a manager that she coughed up the money. It was obvious she had no intention of turning in the money, nor was the hotel management interested in helping me with finding the money. Will never ever stay there again.

This hotel was a very good place based on the cost. The area around the hotel would not be suitable for families with younger children.

The hall and rooms smelled so bad it was 45 degrees out side and I have to have window open to stand the room smell. If the room was not prepaid that I could not check out early I would have left and went somewhere else

The hotel is basic and a bit old, but overall it was decent and clean. The staff was extremely helpful. The reason you want to stay there is for the perfect location and for the price.

Pretty good hotel for the price right in downtown.

The location was great for being close to clubs and great restaurants downtown. We booked online before we arrived then upgraded our room when we got there. It was definitely overpriced for the upgrade, but such a fun location we didn't care.

When I initially booked our rooms, reviews were good, however just prior to our stay I tried to find other accommodations because reviews were so negative. Bottom line, this place is fine. Yes, it is in the middle of a large metropolitan city, meaning watch your belongings! My cab driver assured me that the area is not particularly dangerous. The young partiers outside were loud. But they politely held the door for us as we entered loaded down with luggage, and we did not notice the noise from our room. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and NO bedbugs. Staff was helpful and another customer clued us onto a great bakery serving breakfast/lunch just a block away.

Extremely basic room with updated bathroom. Super slow WiFi. Pretty bad neighborhood. Wouldn't recommend going out after dark

The hotel is a bit dated, the other hotel I stayed at nearby was much more comfortable and not too much more expensive. I liked the restaurant adjacent to the lobby. Room was clean and decently comfortable if a bit crowded and worn.

If you want to be in the "heart" of downtown and the entertainment district, this is Grand Central. This was the old Hotel California now renovated as low end "boutique" accommodation. Granville street can be an eye opener and the location puts you into the middle of things but a great place to people watch. Beautiful parks and the water front, in fact everything are in short walking distance. Don't bring a car, use super easy public transportation and have some fun.

The staff at this hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. It's in a busy neighborhood but the room I had was on the interior and was extremely quiet. It's just around the corner from Davie Street which has many quaint coffee shops and breakfast places and its a 20 minute walk to the Harbor. Really a great value!

No views or pool or decor or anyhing but the basics: a clean comfy bed, ac that works, bathtub with soap. I took a star off "comfort" because the shower does not stay hot, it oscillates from full hot to full cold. Other than that, sure.

The staff was not great. Parking is an ISSUE. Couldn't get parking at 11 when we arrived in Vancouver. Went back at 3.30 to find out there wasn't anything available. 30 minutes after it was 'first come first serve'. At 6.30 after searching for parking went back to ask the front desk where I should park only to find out there actually WAS parking. And the guy that originally told me there was none was surprised that HE had said no. What confusion. What a headache. The room was small and the bed was super uncomfortable. The only good thing for us was location. Will not be staying here again.

This hotel suited me fine.I found the staff friendly and helpful,15 min walk to waterfront but a bus stops outside. Plenty of places to eat at around the corner in Davie st. Good value.

Decently priced option that was a quick bus ride away from the convention center/Gastown/other downtown attractions. The staff were quite friendly and helpful. The wifi would go in and out without notice, and it sometimes felt like I needed to do a magical conjuring to get the hotel login screen to show up on my computer. Small inconveniences with the room, like the water kind of dribbling out of the shower and the toilet seat not staying up. But overall the room was spacious and served my needs while staying there for a conference.

Nice hotel in general, great ubication, nice and friendly staff

Spending a Wednesday night at this hotel, we probably had one of the quietest nights along Granville Street - an area well known for being the strip of bars and clubs in Vancouver. Both vehicle and pedestrian traffic were definitely audible in our room on the second floor, but we were able to sleep through it. If the club beneath was open (Barcelona), I imagine the night would have been insufferable. For those planning on heading to the club and crashing somewhere afterwards, this hotel is perfect. For those in Vancouver for sightseeing etc, the location is good but you're probably sacrificing a good night's sleep for the price.

It is quite close to downtown. We could easily move from the hotel to all places. People are gently. The bed broke so they gave us another room.

That's good, not so expensive hotel in Vancouver Downtown.

The hotel is located right in the heart of downtown Vancouver on Granville Street. It is easy walking to all the bars and night life. The room was cramped but comfortable. For being in downtown, it was a good price compared to other budget locations.
