My husband and I are world travellers and the Don't Boutique Hotel is high on our list of favorite hotels. Friendly, helpful staff, gourmet breakfast, great location near tourist attractions and all major local bus lines Wonderful outdoor pool. We felt welcomed immediately and will definitely return.
This was my second stay at the Don, and tho I was awed by my first experience, I had an even better room (#13) this time, facing the street & market. It's the attention to detail that makes this such a great place. The shower has a clever corner window that allows you to view the plaza below while bathing. The rooftop pool in the rear is a lovely retreat, even if it remains unheated. Another deck a floor above is great for taking in views of the lovely, crumbling, upcoming Ciudad Viejo neighborhood. 3 years ago the neighborhood was a ghost town on weekends, but that is already changing. In another decade this area is going to transform into another Soho or Tribeca. Free breakfast here is the best I've had at any So. American hotel. A little different each day, it's served fresh and personally by the morning staff at the bistro tables in the lobby. The staff is wonderful, friendly (and English speaking for those Spanish challenged). The afternoon desk clerk, Mauro, was a brilliant and personable fount of local and historical information. It should be noted also that the hotel is steps away from the Buquebus terminal for those going to or from Buenos Aires--which is highly convenient. And directly next to the port Mercado, where numerous restaurants smoke meats and sell local delicacies. The Don also has its own restaurant on the nearby plaza with an imaginative menu and my 3 dinners there were among the best meals I had in Argentina or Uruguay. Not for the Sheraton customer, but an authentic, hospitable Uruguyan experience, and I can hardly wait to return.
After 5 weeks of tango in Buenos Aires, I just had to check out the tango scene in Montevideo, the other birthplace of tango. I stayed at the Don Boutique Hotel in Montevideo for just one night, but the experience more than met my expectations. I arrived very early in the morning via Buquebus from Buenos Aires. This hotel was within walking distance from the port. Upon arrival, Gonzalo made us feel very welcome. He provided us with coffee while we relaxed in the lobby area while waiting on the room to get ready. It was refreshing to talk to Gonzalo as he had a great command of the English language. He is a hard working, industrious, and personable young man. Upon checking into the room, I see why this is a boutique hotel. The room was spa like and the decor was beautiful. I . I really enjoyed my trip to Montevideo and my stay Don Boutique Hotel. I would recommend it to anyone traveling to Montevideo.
Although the location of the hotel isn't fantastic, it really is a lovely hotel. Loved the modern decor and there was a lot of attention to detail. Really a 5 star just in a bit of a deserted area. The staff were really friendly and helpful and spoke English very well. The room that I stayed in was beautiful and had a jacuzzi in it! The pool area is great too. They arranged tours for me and even escorted me to the cash machine and to nearby restaurants so I felt safe. The area is a little deserted and it is not really safe to walk around at night but you take taxi's around anyway so for me this wasnt a problem.
