I checked in and paid for a week's stay, but checked out immediately because the place was too filthy to tolerate. The front desk clerk could only authorize a partial refund, said the manager would have to authorize the rest. Almost a month later, after many calls and correspondence, still have heard nothing from management. Their Customer Satisfaction page says "We Pride Ourselves on Providing Exceptional Customer Service" - yeah, right.
Before visiting this hotel i was little apprehensive to stay here because of mixed reviews by earlier guest , but let me share my experience . Purpose of my visit if official , and we choose this hotel because of proximity to Young street where my client office So after traveling 30 hrs , after changing 3 flights , finally reached Mary-am , my taxi driver found it easily , not much issue with that . At reception, young boy name Amn greets me , and then i got shock of my life when he told me that , though you have done booking but we haven't received your money . previously i had already send 2 emails asking about weather my room had microwave or not , if at that time these guys told me about same, this problem can be resolve -- any ways he asked me to pay 1 night rent in advance(131$) even though booking amount of around 250$ they already received, which i did ,as that time i have no other option , they should PROACTIVELY avoid that kind of situation 2- They don't have lift , and my luggage is too heavy , Amn came forward and took my heavy luggage and shown my room , thanks Amn for that 3- To my surprise rooms are quite good , spacious , check pic's for same 4- got my Wi-Fi password from Amn , Wi-Fi speed is good , even though my room is in back 5-Daily maid is coming to clean the room , which is nice, she even changed the bed sheet immediately when i asked her after 3-4 days 6- Yes , occasionally you can hear sounds from next rooms, especially if there are kids and all, and when some one enters room or laugh loud 7- As i walk , so cant say about parking , but i think its there at back of hotel 8- Not ordered breakfast or dinner, as i prefer to make my own in microwave , so comments 9- At my last day , i asked to delay my check-out for 1 hours , which they did, thanks for that 10- I asked them to book taxi for airport , which they did 11- TV in both bed and dinning room ,though i haven't used it once because of good Wi-Fi speed All together nice stay !! so my suggestion is forget about all previous reviews , and come stay there , they will try to resolve your problem,if any , what ever is there in their hands !!!
Nice clean room. Recently renovated and it showed. Room was spacious and yet, cozy. They reference the room as having a kitchenette, but all there was, was a microwave and a fridge already filled with stuff for sale. There was not much room for our own stuff. In my mind, a kitchenette needs a stove, at least something to cook a meal. A microwave is made to heat stuff, not to cook a meal, unless you eat pre-packaged meals. So that was a little disappointing. Also, there no table or counter to eat whatever you prepare. There is a small table, more like a coffee table. Very low to the ground. Not suitable to eat dinner or even a breakfast. There is a desk that you could use, but it's against the wall and there's only one chair... The most disappointing thing was the bed/mattress... it definitely saw better days. It was very uncomfortable. I did not sleep well at all. I ended up with my feet higher than my head...the whole thing was slanting towards the headboard. And there was only one night stand and a lone light. So my wife could not read her book in bed because there was not enough light on her side of the bed. Other than that, the room was spacious and clean. Bathroom was ok, clean but not super big. But it did the trick. Only downside, is if you are taller than 5'8", you can't really enjoy the rain showerhead because it is set too low. Overall, it was clean, spacious, but not very comfortable, hence the mixed review.
This is good example of how pictures can be not true about hotel. We came for small holiday. Upstairs suite OK but noisy. When we saw hotel kitchen where breakfast was prepared we felt terrible. Food was in same place as cleaning and painting materials! Microwave in room not worked.
I have been coming to Toronto every 2 weeks for cancer treatments since the end of Aug of 2016. I always stay at the Mary Am hotel. I will never stay anywhere else regardless of the reason for my trips. The staff are truly amazing!!! I arrived at the hotel yesterday after treatment in less than prime condition and Shirin at the front desk personally delivered me to my room. She also made sure that her co-worker on the night shift called me later to ensure that I was all right and to see if I needed anything. She always asks how I'm feeli g, if there's anything that I need. These people know the true meaning of the words "Hospitality industry." This isn't the fanciest hotel in Toronto but its clean, reasonable rates, kitchenette, and above all the best staff in any hotel I've ever stayed in. Shirin is truly a hidden gem!
Older hotel, check in was fine, advertises a pull-out couch. We pulled out the bed from the couch and the mattress was just Springs no cushion at all...Noone could sleep on that. Had to share a bed as the pull out was so awful. Walls are very thin, could hear a neighbors full telephone conversation. Sink in bathroom took hours to drain. Door didn't close very well.
If you're looking for a simple crash pad for 2 couples, this is a good choice. 2 beds, fridge (after u empty out the $3 pops and waters), microwave. But if 2 couples are coming for comfort, this is not. Pictures do show as it is, but room layout is this: you come into an area that is basically a kitchen. Small desk with lamp on one end. Against king wall are 2 chairs with little end table between, and across from that is kitchen counter which has tv on it. 3 chairs in total for the entire suite. The forth person has to sit on some kinda foot stool. Web pictures show keurig, but it's old time 4 cup machine. 2 separate private bedrooms. Bedrooms for room 207. We had a 2 bedroom suite. 2 couples, 3 nights. King bedroom with TV and dresser. Queen room with no TV no dresser. King bed was broken. I had to sleep with my head at the foot of the bed because leg at the head broken. Also the door to the king room needs fixed. Sticks and thought I was trapped in there a couple times. I think it's pretty rude to expect the queen bedroom to have no TV. They had to sit in the "kitchen" to be able to watch their own shows. There were cheap extension cords everywhere. On the floor by the bed for lights and up to the tv in the king room. I don't believe this is code, but that's not my problem. In kitchen, 2 outlets cover the microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. "Free wifi". Well that may be, but if you're in the last room on the second floor (207), Forget It! 2 of us managed to get on with much dropping and connecting again. The other 2 of us couldn't connect at all. Told the desk man the first night and he kinda shrugged and said he'd let them know in the morning and it would be fixed "by tomorrow". Nope. Since we couldn't call home to the states, we really counted on wifi to be able to text home. Housekeeping. Training needed! No vacuuming done. We came in with small what're pieces of paper all over king bedroom floor, and it was still there the next day after housekeeping. Only 3 towels for 4 people on arrival. Got extra towel. The next day after housekeeping, we had 6 hand towels, 4 towels and 1 washcloth. Went down an asked for more. "I'll be up in 20 mins" he said. Never came. In morning, went down and got wash cloths plus extra roll of TP because housekeeping never replaced and we had NONE on roll! Also asked for do not disturb sign. No more housekeeping! Again, very acceptable place for literal crash pad while visiting the city. Close to bus which goes right to TTC subway. Or nice walk to TTC. Not too far. If you're coming in late from day in the city, showering and going to sleep, nice place to split cost with another couple. Just refuse 207 so you can reach the wifi. BUT, if you're 2 couples looking for place where you can hang out in hotel room and have fun for the eve, not conducive to that. And with no TV in the one bedroom, that couple can't even relax in bed and watch some tv.
This place is not fancy but very clean and cozy. I realized that this hotel was just 3 star hotel...so I didn't expect a lot...especially for the price I paid. But if you are the kind of person who prefers luxury downtown hotels then this place isn't for you. However if all you need is a spacious suite, comfortable bad and cleanliness then you will like the hotel. The breakfast they offer is dissent ... I also went couple of times to the breakfast place down the street and I personally liked it more.
We stayed here for 2 nights. Check-in process was fast and the front desk lady speaks my mother tongue- Mandarin so we felt very comfortable. Room is clean and location is good. We will stay here again.
Friendly front desk. Comfortable suite, but little things were off -- threadbare towels, tons of dirt in the corners, etc. Price very reasonable, however, for a suite with quality bed, kitchenette, separate sitting area and large bathroom. The neighborhood has no amenties -- no coffee shops, etc. Need to walk 4-5 blocks or drive. Hotel is adjacent to a nice park where we enjoyed some walks. Overall an acceptable place to stay in North York but don't expect a "downtown" experience.
