Hotel Villa Fontaine Tokyo-Roppongi3.0 out of 5.0

I have been staying at this hotel for nearly 10 years on trips to Tokyo and continue to do so for its value and for having all of the basics. It is consistently the least expensive hotel in the area but the rooms a clean, quiet and serviceable. Internet quality is good (and free). If you want a hearty breakfast and luxury mod-cons I would look elsewhere but if you need somewhere to rest your head, throw your bags and have a good shower everything you need is here. On that note, water pressure is insanely good, which is hard to come buy in almost any hotel in the world these days. I wouldn't normally eat breakfast at the hotel every day in any case (plenty of other options nearby) but some basic fair is available, most people cite this as their big negative, so if you are really interested in that, it's probably not for you. Great for business trips or trips where you will be out most of the time anyway and not in your room, but when you are you want to sleep. Rooms are smaller than large name hotels but also your looking at around half the cost or less in some cases. Inner rooms are quieter but have no view. Temperature control works well and is very quiet (again, something most hotels seem to get wrong these days). Vending machines on every floor are handy if you just want a drink or snack and there are plenty of convenience stores near by. Having a fridge to throw your beverages and other things in is great as well. The urn/kettle is also handy if you want to make tea/coffee/cup noodles etc. All of the rooms within a type are basically identical so you are pretty much going to get what it shows on the website. The Roppongi-itchome Metro station is immediately below and the main shopping area in Roppongi is a short work away. At least two other metro stations are also within a 10-15 minute walk. It is pretty easy to get almost anywhere from this location. Access to/from Natrita by Limousine Bus to ANA Intercontinental and a short walk makes getting here very easy as well. Only real negative for me is that the beds are a little firm for my taste but this seems to be somewhat the norm in Japan. Others have reported some rudeness from staff but I have never personally experienced that here at all even though I don't speak a word of Japanese. I recommend it, so long as you understand what it is, very functional and good value, not luxury.
I tried to check in at 12.30pm. I had been all night on an aeroplane. I was told that the room was ready but had to wait until 2.00pm. At 1.30pm I got told a different story that house keeping hadn't finished preparing the room. Even though I was booked in for three nights i was given very rude response. Other Japanese guests whom were checking in at the same time (1.30pm) were allowed to got straight to their room. The unfriendly nature was most disturbing.
If you do not mind a small and cramped room, average service, terrible breakfast (like in a backpackers hostel) but appreciate the ideal location for metro access ( right above the roppongi station ) ; then this could be the right hotel for your stay in Tokio. If however you do appreciate a bit of comfort, decent breakfast and service you should look for another hotel.
For work, I've had a chance to stay at various Villa Fontaine hotels around Tokyo and they have all been consistently good and maintain a good standard. The Roppongi location lives up to the same standard. Front desk people are charming and helpful. They take the time to answer your questions and help you out. The rooms are clean and adequate. Non-smoking. Street noise manageable (stayed at the 4th floor with my room toward the street, and with the windows shut muffled noise from the street can be heard). Breakfast is simple with selection of some western and Japanese fare. They don't have a fitness room in house, but you can avail of the nearby gym for a discounted rate for guests. Didn't have a chance to use it, but for those looking, this could be an option if you're considering Villa Fontaine (check rates with hotel as it may vary). Location is great. Near the subway, a good walk to Diet, and other attractions. Overall, very good experience for business travel and will definitely consider if I'm back in the Roponggi area.
Walking distance to bars / restaurants etc of Roppongi, without being right on top of all the noise. Conveniently located for metro lines to travel to both Eastern and Western sides of the city, but not walking distance from these useful stations if you have a lot of luggage to carry Good breakfast and service from hotel staff As with all Tokyo hotels in this range - small and simple with no frills! Suitable if you just want a base and a bed at a reasonable price
This was a great hotel. The photos don't do it justice. The staff were great and spoke english. The free wifi was great however the lobby computers only had internet explorer and we couldn't access some websites. The room was clean and tidy. It was small but that is expected in Japan. They offered free breakfast and helped us with organizing our transport back to the airport. The view out of our window was a street lined with cherry blossom trees. This hotel is right next to the train station however it is not a train station that is on the Yamanote line that circles Tokyo. It's also a short walk to the nearest main street in Roppongi with shops, food and night life. This hotel has vending machines on every floor and a laundry with washing machines and dryers which were handy for our 13 day stay in Japan.
This hotel is well located in Roppongi. The metro station is right underneath it with many restaurants. It is close to all the action in Roppongi. The rooms are clean but run down. The included breakfast is a bad joke, everyday the same and it is not good at all, the last day they put sugar on the eggs instead of salt! if you show up after 9 AM then you won't have anything to eat. I guess for the price is okay but I was expecting something better.
I stayed here during my week long business trip. The rooms were small but comfortable and neat. The proximity to the subway was a big drawcard. The staff were courteous and the breakfast was generous and adequate. I will definitely stay here when I visit next time.
My stay here was basically because the ANA and Okura were almost fully booked and way over priced. This hotel was within walking distance of my offices and very affordable. Subway access is at the front door for access across Tokyo. Attached to the station is a multi level residential and small shopping area with 5 - 7 restaurants. Family Mart is behind the hotel for sundry items. Staff are friendly and speak English well. Check-in was fast. My room was super clean, small but not confining and on the ground floor at the back and very quiet. Usual good quality amenities, purely Japanese language TV and no drinks in the mini-bar and strong hot shower. Basic continental breakfast in the lobby was adequate. Ironing board and adapters available free from front desk. Late check-out is available by paying per extra hour (reasonable) May stay again. Good value, good location in Tokyo. (15 min stroll to Tokyo Tower)
As far as affordable Japan hotels go this is pretty good. The standard room is of course pretty tiny so don't stay here if you are planning on spending long hours in the room. But it is clean and the bathroom has good pressure and surprisingly good shampoo/shower gel etc. A big electric chair that I think requires some kind of payment takes up a large amount of space in the room and the TV stopped working half way through my stay and wasn't fixed. its quiet and you can walk to roppongi Most annoying thing about the trip was on my check out day they were banging on my door to tell me i was 1 minute over the check out time. i then agreed to pay for late check out and again 30 minutes before, i got a call and another visit from reception.
