We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel California, with friends. Besides staying in a different room than the one 4 years ago, there are other changes there. First the room -- we were in room 3, which faced the street, but was quiet, had good A/C, complimentary bottled water, and a queen bed. Our friends stayed in room 1 (faces street; king bed and a small outside balcony which does not face the street), room 6 (faces street; 2 double beds), and room 8 (two double beds, and in the interior of the hotel). I also got a peak at room 5, which is the penthouse suite, with a staircase in the room to the upper level. The street -- they have widened the sidewalks quite a bit, and you can no longer park directly in front of the hotel. There are handicap ramps on the curbs at the corners, but some of those ramps were so steep, they would be a real challenge to someone in a wheelchair. The atmosphere -- since the lawsuit, they no longer play Hotel California by the Eagles about every half hour like they used to. We never heard it on the recorded music the 2 days we were there. They have also removed the explanation on the check-in desk that said the Eagles had never been there, but might have been inspired by the place if they had. Other changes -- The restaurant (inside part) and bar seemed unusually warm, especially close to the cooking area. There was one fan in use at the bar, and that was aimed behind the bar to keep the bartender(s) cool. There is a cut in the sidewalk in front of the hotel, so you can briefly park a car there to load/unload luggage. Our friend Victor is no longer the bartender there. I don't remember the restroom signs being so explicit before. Sill the same -- there are still no elevators, so lots of stair climbing is involved. And you still need to unlatch the metal doors to reach the rooms. The Jalapeño margaritas are as good as ever! You can still hear the mission bells, and the place is as funky as ever.
Stopped by on a tour! Nice place to stop by for a drink! Would love to go back and shop for some of the different items they have for sale! Situated in the nice little town of Todos Santos. Check out the artwork on the doors!!
A group of us spent the day in Todos Santos, and lunch at Hotel California is a must. Great burgers, shrimp dishes and pizza's. the service is good , but it's the atmosphere that makes dining here fun. Since our last visit they have added a visiting potter... he's really good and makes cute pigs, elephants etc...nice takehome souvenir of Todos Santos..
Had lunch at the restaurant yesterday. The food was excellent and the music was as well. There were two gents playing acoustic guitars; mostly Mexican classical, they were great. They played an instrumental Hotel California that was one of the best I've ever heard. We really enjoyed walking around town, lots of galleries and shops, and don't forget to go to the mission. Reminds me of Cabo 20 years ago. All in all, great trip and well worth the drive.
This place never disappoints! We have visited many times. We enjoy the one hour drive from Cabo. The food is amazing. The hospitality we receive is great. This hotel is quaint and beautifully decorated. Debbie is friendly and very accommodating!
We stopped at the Hotel California bar and enjoyed outdoor cocktails and food. There were two guitar players playing traditional and favorite songs including "Hotel California" There was also a potter making small & unique items, like the famous fountain there. We asked if he could make a turtle for our friend and he did! A walk around town, the church and square are a must. Relaxing place to visit. We were staying in Cabo San Lucas and had a rental car. It was 50 miles one way on a good 4 lane freeway. You really get to see the beautiful dessert this way & the stunning Pacific Ocean.
We drove up the coast from Cabo to visit this wonderful little Baja city...small town, great artsy shops, restaurants. And of course, Hotel Californua. The Eagles Dream Wannabe'. Fun photo stop and bought great shirts for the NAME. Definitely playing on our favorite Eagles song, and surprised so many thought this WAS the real place. Fun, picturesque and fun little quiet town. Friendly and worth the 45 minute drive from Cabo! Fun stop!
Our cruise ship had a tour of Todo Santos and we ended with lunch at the Hotel California. It was a fun experience. The food was great and we very much enjoyed the bar. Our waiter was fun and we loved the ambiance on the outdoor patio.
I had booked this hotel for a couple of nights whilst travelling from Cabo, however, I in hindsight this was a mistake. There is actually very little to do in the town, especially in September when we went, and the Hotel simply doesn't live up to the hype. The rooms at the front are open to the road which is noisy at 6 am. There are only shutters on the windows so there is no way to block out the noise and of course, this also means there is is no air conditioning!!! Given the lack of air conditioning, it would have been nice to get at least some complimentary water. The beds were very uncomfortable so all in all we had a poor nights sleep. The water taps were not functioning properly on arrival and although were fixed, were still temperamental. The bathroom facilities were very basic, indeed the entire room was very basic. We tried to use the pool at the rear of the hotel but this was woeful with broken tiles underfoot. We didn't eat in the hotel but rather dined at La Casita down the street, which we very nice. There was little else to do in the town and most people simple stop by, take a photo and move on, which is what we should have done.
We were only here for a couple of hours. Todos Santos is a place I want to see more of. Hotel California was beautiful and very interesting. Loved the town. Town was clean. Streets were wide and well kept. Would love to stay here a while. Definitely a hidden gem. Planning to go back!
