It's not quite right to review a Hotel after only being here 2 days, but so confident my first impressions won't change, here I go. From the start, your greeting with refreshment after a four hour flight plus transfer is welcomed. What's more impressive, is the cases to your room service whilst you check in. Thanks. Once in the room....wow, the most modern Spanish hotel room I've ever stayed in. The shower, big enough for a family of four to shower together, is very impressive in the most modern, well equipped and spacious bathroom. The room itself equally as impressive. 2 single very large beds aside each other, ( well it is Valentine's Day) as comfortable as I've ever experienced on a Holiday. Air con that works and doesn't keep you awake, Wardrobes with enough hangers even for my wife who's packed for a fortnight even though we've only paid for a week....The restaurant? Just incredible. Really difficult to abstain and not be greedy. All the food is exceptional and the variety is unbelievable. The facilities. Cleaned to micro levels....So much cleaning constantly going on, its lovely to see. Even your door number is subjected to routine polishing. 3 pools, private beach area across a road, massive well tended gardens, poolside bar service with smiles, and plenty of beds. Even a 1030 start saw us getting a poolside bed. The Staff are friendly, attentive and all in all fantastic...No noisy, in ya face poolside entertainment crew. Trusting adults to make their own enjoyment without the forceful, you will play this quiz/ bingo/darts/ entertainments crew and their irritating DJ style of communication....... We will be hard pushed to find a Hotel we've enjoyed so much ever again... The Spanish restaurant for us tonight (need to book at reception) then a listen to Soul, Luther Vandross type singer... Loving it all. The Hotel Rui, Arecus has set the mark for us. Thank you. Ray n Dawn, room 72
Our 4th visit and the 1st since the refurbishment and change to adult only. Must congratulate the hotel on the pool area changes and the way the outdoor and indoor entertainment areas merge into one with use of large glass windows. Rooms easily large enough for 2 people and the bathroom was very nice although no bath available. Our room was none pool view and on the americas side of the hotel and I must say it was very noisy from about 5ish in the morning, pool view a must if we return. Lots of sun beds and never a problem getting one but you have to be up early for the ones in prime locations and don't forget your large pegs as you will feel left out without them!! With the time of year the guests were not on the young side so don't expect a lively stay but guests were all very pleasant and friendly. Food seemed to be on a 7 day rota with a lot of the menu the same each night so I must say it got a bit repetitive however there was always something I enjoyed. Drinks were large and reasonably priced, 3€ a beer and 7€ for a short with mixer. Quiet just outside of the hotel with bars very quiet, turn left out of the front of the hotel towards the church and you will find a couple of nice bars/restaurants and a hippo diner supermarket, turn right and there is another supermarket, maybe a Spar, and we found this cheapest with a good selection of wine for the room. Down to the seafront and turn left and there are plenty of very nice up market bars and eateries but they don't come cheap. To sum it up a very nice relaxed stay in pleasant surroundings and decent food to go with decent weather, would definitely make a 5th trip
Completely faultless. Room. Staff. Food. Gala evenings for both Christmas and New Year were superb. Second visit to this hotel and won't be the last. Every member of staff from the manager to the cleaners made you feel as though you were a regular guest.
We stayed here for a week from Jan 19th following a cruise around the Canaries. We had stayed at the Arecas before in 2013, and at the Palace in 2014 and 2015, so we were familiar with the hotel pre-modernisation and its location in Costa Adeje. As we approached the hotel, the only evidence of the modernisation externally were a new block of rooms on the site of the tennis courts and the replacement of the glass frontage on the second to fifth floors with a solid wall decorated with giant metal fronds. I was relieved to see that hotel had in the main retained its external Spanish Colonial appearance with terracotta roof tiles and white walls, unlike the nearby Riu Palace which now resembles a gun emplacement following its extensive remodelling in 2015. The new lobby and reception are a great improvement, giving a feeling of coolness and space. We were checked in very quickly and efficiently as is usual in a Riu hotel, and set off to find our room on the fourth floor. This was a revelation compared with 2013 Arecas, no tired carpet, dull wood and hard beds now. It was all clean white lines, tiled floor, big flat-screen tv and ultra-comfortable beds. The bathrooms are now without a bath or bidet, but a fantastic big walk-in shower now has pride of place. The balcony was equipped with a couple of upright chairs and a small table, and was in direct sunlight from about 1pm onwards. The pool area has plenty of sunbeds, although that didn’t seem to stop some guests getting up at 7am to reserve theirs. There were always spare sunbeds regardless of what time you turned up at either the pool area or the sandy area that the hotel now has exclusive use of down by the beachfront. The restaurant is unrecognisable from the previous version. An extended service area with two food preparation stations now gives as wide a choice as I have experienced in any Riu hotel (with the caveat that I haven’t stayed in a modernised Riu Palace yet). We were welcomed by a familiar face as the maitre d had been at the Riu Palace on previous visits and he runs the Arecas restaurant as efficiently as always. It’s nice to now turn up at any time to eat in the evening and to sit anywhere, rather than be restricted to one sitting and the same table for the entire stay. Again, there were always tables available regardless of what time you turned up, despite the hotel being full. The food quality was excellent, both at breakfast and dinner. Their was also an option to dine in the Spanish a la carte restaurant Olé; we didn’t take that up, but other guests that we talked to enthused about it though. The hotel manager was invariably in attendance at dinner and was very friendly and approachable. The bars at poolside and in the hotel were reasonably priced and service was excellent. The entertainment was considerably better than our previous experiences, with four good guest bands in the week including the South Side Boys, a Temptations tribute band. The house band was pleasant to listen to as well, although a salsa version of Coldplay’s Clocks was unusual to say the least! We had the usual grumbles about paying for a safe and small bath towels, but we had a lovely week and wouldn’t hesitate to book another stay at the Arecas.
Just got back from here. The hotel is superb, very impressive. Staff are fab. The hotel is quite a walk away from the sea and the main part of the resort but we used it as an opportunity to do lots of walking and get a lot fitter. Felt very safe walking back at night. Would definitely recommend. No coffee/tea facilities in the bedrooms was the only downside.
My wife and I went with close friends of ours who had been to the Arecas the year before. It is a large Hotel but never seems impersonal, the rooms are well maintained and modern. The resteraunt serves a good variety of food which is all self service, the staff are very friendly and attentive. There are plenty of sun beds around the pool but we used the private area down by the sea. There are 74 steps which take you down to the public beach, on the right hand side you have a superb 'Private man made golden sanded area with plenty of seating, changing room, toilets and a beach bar, this area can only be entered by using your electronic room key. The area is up market with 4 & 5 star hotels, two supermarkets, a chemist and 2 bars are directly opposite the Hotel. If you are looking for an upbeat area this is not for you, if your looking for a relaxing quality Hotel in a quiet area, book it now!
This hotel far exceeded our expectations in every way. Had the most lovely welcome from Roberto at reception on Day 1 who was so friendly and helpful throughout our stay- thanks so much Roberto. A huge thanks also to Daniel at reception whom we met later later in our stay and who was so pleasant and helpful in advising during the stay and later sorting out our departure to perfection. The hotel location is perfect if you like being in a nice area, away from the busier parts, etc. It was spotlessly clean everywhere. Lovely pools including a private beach area nearer the sea with infinity pool. Sun loungers always available. We were half board. Food was excellent & varied every day during our 7 day stay. Everything you could want at breakfast, e.g. multiple fruits, juices, cereals, hot English breakfast, fresh omelettes made on request, cold meats/ cheeses/ salad, pancakes. Huge choice at dinner, e.g. roast meats in addition to chicken, pork, beef steak, various fish dishes, lots of vegetarian options/ vegetables/ soups/ salads, paella every night, lovely desserts. Food never got repetitive- well done to the kitchen staff. Kitchen manager (in a suit) was often out ensuring everything went well& he was friendly. Lovely to have meals on the terrace- those who prefer can eat inside with panoramic glass to allow nice views. Rooms lovely and clean with nice balcony & a convenient fridge. Room service staff again were so friendly as were the bar staff especially one of the male staff who had a lovely attitude and who smiled/ greeted constantly. Grounds were immaculate with lovely manicured plants & palm trees everywhere. Nearby supermarket if required. Entertainment was enjoyable. Will definitely return. A wonderful hotel.
Take no notice of any bad reviews. Riu Arecas ticked all the boxes, excellent service, excellent food, great facilities, great location. Rooms facing the pool best. Entertainment finishes at 11pm so any noise not an issue. We stayed in 3076 and had a very relaxing stay.
We stayed at the Arecas from the 21st to 28th January 2018 The service was excellent staff always friendly and very helpful. The food was excellent buffet style always a very good choice well prepared and presented the housekeeping team kept the hotel smart and clean the rooms were spacious lovely bathroom with walk in shower balcony with chairs comfortable beds with large flat screen TV and fridge ample wardrobe and draw space The hotel has two pools on site and a 3rd pool at the beach club. Pool bars. Nightly entertainment. The drink prices were very good I was very impressed with their Sangria. The hotel is in a good location with a Promenade running at the back of hotel along the shoreline. The hotel gave us the feeling we wanted to return again.
We have just returned from our second visit to this fabulous hotel. All staff very efficient and polite, immaculately clean in all areas - rooms buffet pool etc. Great choice of piping hot foods at both breakfasts and dinner however was slightly concerned at the amount of people obviously making lunches i.e. Sandwiches- fruit-biscuits and cakes from the morning buffet which was never challenged by any staff members. Surely if paying for half board that is what it means and lunch is to be obtained and paid for elsewhere? Hotel in a good location for fit active persons however due to steps besides hotel could be a problem for less able visitors. Local festival of San Sebastián was wonderful. Well situated on a bus route and pleasant walk to both las Americas, los Christianos ad la caletta Evening entertainment was very good on some occasions and satisfactory on others. Rooms could benefit from tea and coffee making facilities but that was the only small negative point we could find at this hotel.
