Helpful staff, tasty food, room is classic, spacious room, close to shopping area, valet parking
We visited Taormina for the first time 10 years ago. The town was a gem - tourists "dressed" to come to this ritzy enclave high above the Mediterranean Sea riddled with 5 star hotels, great restaurants, upscale shops selling top quality Italian clothes, Sicilian ceramics and antiques. Ten years have past and the tourist throngs in their buses and cruise ships have found this spot, and the streets are jammed with large tour groups and the quality of the shops has changed accordingly. That said, the time we spent at the San Domenico, wandering its storied property was an absolute delight. There's no better place to have a late afternoon refreshment than in the gorgeous courtyard.
