Stayed here for 3 nights with friends when visiting the area. Parking, easy walk into Taormina, friendly, efficient and helpful staff. Was at first a bit disappointed walking to the room down a corridor where the carpet could perhaps do with a make-over and thought the room was a bit dark and perhaps in need of an up date. But it was comfortable, a fridge, a good sized bathroom and nice terrace but no tea/coffee making facilities. There is a swimming pool and the hotel over looks the bay so there are wonderful views. Good buffet breakfast, including fruit and prosecco for those wanting a morning glass of bubbly. They have a few gluten free items, but not a large selection. We had one evening meal in the restaurant and this was excellent as was the service. They had a delicious Melanzane Parmigiano on the menu, made with ricotta which was also gluten free.
I stayed in a single room for 4 nights. Initially disappointed with my room, very dated, dark decor and as common with a single, barely room to swing a cat. Bathroom also needs updating, absolutely tiny shower although all was clean. No balcony, but then there was the big upside - what an amazing view! Pool area was also fantastic, yes there are lots of steps, but again you get those views and a nice snack bar. Breakfast was also good, enough choice. Hot options could have had some variety and coffee tasted a bit strange but that may have been the milk. But plenty of choice with fruit, continental and especially the pastries. The location was also excellent. 5 minutes walk to the cable car down to Mazzaro/Isola Bella and 10 minutes walk to Porta Messina and Taormina centre. Also the bus station was across the road - very handy for trips and the airport bus so did not need a car. All in all, as I didn't spend too much time in the room (and who would want to in such a stunning area), the hotel worked well for my needs.
This place is a perfect location to Porta Messina with expansive rooms and if you want a view, get one with a balcony. Take he gondola to get down to the beach, have a nice relaxing breakfast with plenty of good food. The A/C works really well. The wifi is excellent and leaving your key at the desk is suggested. The safe in the room is easy to operate. Clean, and helpful staff and good elevator access.
We enjoyed our stay here the last time we were in Sicily, so decided to return on that basis. The location/views are as superb as we remembered, and the location good as it allows for easy access from the bus station without a second trip in smaller vehicles or on foot given Taormina’s many narrow streets. Service was excellent and courteous - with the pool staff particularly helpful. Breakfast provides a good range of options, is plentiful and served ‘with a view’. We did not eat here in the evening, preferring instead to take the 10 minute walk into the town, although we returned for a final late drink on the bar terrace on more than one occasion. We paid for a balcony which was nice to have as the rooms, whilst clean and generally well maintained are not expansive and now a little dated (some additional power sockets would be useful for example). Having said this, you certainly shouldn’t be spending your holiday in your room when in Sicily, so for us this was not a huge issue. As other reviews have mentioned, there are approximately 185 steps down to the pool (with more depending on your room) but these appear to have been significantly improved since our last visit - and the pool/pool bar area is excellent. Understandably this may present issues for anyone with a mobility problem but we saw all age groups successfully negotiating the trip up and down, with plenty of points to stop, pause and take in the view on the route. All in all this remains in our opinion a very good base from which to explore Taormina- and to enjoy some time in the sun also. Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.
Miramare is a wonderful hotel. The place was clean and welcoming and the staff all friendly and helpful. Especially Fabio and Rino who went out of their way to track down our luggage that didn't arrive on our flight. They were constantly on the phone over several days and it was only through them that we eventually had our cases delivered to us. The breakfasts were excellent and taken in a room with great views over the bay. The waitress service was prompt and caring and the food great. We didn't eat in the restaurant for dinner but used the Trattoria Da Nino just down the road, which was excellent value and good food. The pool was good but be warned, the hotel is built into the side of a steep hill and the pool is 184 steps down from the room and there's no lift to it. The bus terminal is just down the road and there are busses to just about everywhere so you don't need a car in Taormina, not least because the local drivers are all mad and the car parking is expensive at 15 Euros a day.
We arrived with a flurry of parking issues with a number of cars arriving and leaving on a narrow road outside the hotel , one of the staff jumped into my car and moved it into the parking area without even giving me an opportunity and was in rather a mood. The hotel is rather dated and considering it’s Charging €200 per night with bed ,breakfast and parking is not what you class as cheap . The bathroom tap had to be pushed hard to shut the dripping, toilet seat had broken a support and bath plug hole was rusted . There aren’t free plug sockets for charging devices next to your bed unless you unplug the bedside lamp .Our room was below the dining area and was very noisy I know this hotel probably has a reputation due to the views it offers , but times have moved on and people expect a basic level of maintenance in hotels a quarter of this price , but assume as long as people pay these prices the owners will carry on taking their money The plus points are the staff are helpful , it’s close to the bus station and cable car
We stayed here for four nights in September 2019. We were on the top floor and the room had a great terrace with fabulous views over the sea and, to the left, the mountains. The room was very comfortable, an excellent night’s sleep was had every night in the large, comfortable bed. The toiletries were of good quality and kept topped up. As other reviewers have mentioned, the was a slight niggle with the over bath shower as it was very difficult not to cause a very wet bathroom floor whilst showering. I always welcome a robe, albeit the L/XL size was quite neat! It was a little strange how the tea bags etc were not topped up until the last day but we managed a nice cuppa every morning on the terrace with the supplies available! As Management has mentioned - we could have simply asked for more! Breakfast was plentiful with the hot food being kept properly hot and a great choice of everything - I enjoyed squeezing my own juice every morning and, whilst I didn’t, there was some Prosecco available for a crafty Buck’s Fizz! The pool is down some 170-180 steps from the bottom of the lift but they are not steep. The staff at the pool are all so friendly and it’s a great spot for drinks and snack lunches. There were sufficient loungers when we were there and towels are provided free of charge. The area is kept spotless. Finally, location - it’s a short walk into the main centre and the bus station is opposite for air port transfers - if you arrive by rail, the station is also linked by bus and a taxi cost us 15 Euros. The gondola to and from the beaches is expensive for what it is (6 Euros a return trip compared with 7.5 Euros to the airport on the bus!) but it does the job although the walk down from behind the hotel at pool level isn’t too bad if you can manage steep gradients and steps. Taormina itself - well that’s a whole other story but it’s a beautiful place!
We were skeptical about just stopping in without reservations and after reading some previous reviews...but we loved our stay at the Miramare & ended up staying 2 nights!! (We even cancelled an already paid for hotel!!) The staff was so welcoming and invited us to see two rooms that were available to pick from. We chose room 302 that had a huge terrace overlooking pool, sea and beautiful grounds!!! The breakfast room offered equally beautiful views as well as a filling breakfast! The hotel is perfectly located to the town, with PARKING!! The grounds, the pool were well maintained!! Rooms were a bit dated but the terrace and views outweighed that minor point!!! I would definitely return!!
There are truly fantastic views over the coast from this hotel. It has a slightly old-fashioned feel but it is very pleasant and the staff were helpful. Rooms 302, and 304, were adequate size and kept clean. 302 has an awesome balcony, more of a terrace really, with the lovely views. There was a lack of shelving for storing clothes and toiletries and the sound insulation with regards to plumbing was poor but the view compensated. Ate in one night and that was very good. The pool area is down steps but is open to the sea view and peaceful. The pool was great and the snack bar very good. Option to play tennis and hire rackets was a bonus. The hotel is handy for the town which is wonderful. There are restaurants nearby as well as thousands in town. The bus station is across the road. The beach is a long way down. There is a cable car but there is still some walking. It was very busy in August.
just spent five nights at the Grand hotel, from the moment we arrived the staff were friendly, always with a smile especially reception and staff at breakfast.Hotel is close to the centre without being on top of it.Only downside for some people would be the stairs to the pool if your not so able bodied,as it's down a flight of stairs.breakfast was good and varied, the staff were friendly and attentive.Rooms were good adequate size(who stays in a room when you have taormina to explore),cleaned daily and hotel very clean as well.would I go back? yes I would.
