I booked this trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary and I was not disappointed with my choice. As you can see by the photos our room was quite comfortable and had a great view. Our villa was called Palma and I believe this villa is pretty much your entry level villa as far as room size and total area. We were quite satisfied with our accommodation, though. The grounds are very lush and well maintained, but the roads to get there leave much to be desired. Breakfast was included with our room, but it was a fairly limited menu. The one thing that stands out the most is the service and attention from the staff. After introducing ourselves they called us by name every time we encountered any of them. The concierge was very helpful in booking taxis, reservations and activities for us. The one thing I would say about the dinners at the hotel is they are very expensive and the dinner menu is limited to one choice. That being said, the chef is absolutely an artist when it comes to his choices. We went fishing one afternoon and brought back some Yellow Fin Tuna and asked the chef to prepare our catch for our dinner that evening. I have never had such a wonderful meal...so delicious! I would highly recommend this property and will most likely return next year. My only (slight) negative was the lack of variety of menu choices, but we augmented the variety of meals by choosing a variety of local restaurants in the nearby town of Santa Teresa. Great time, great experience!
Upon walking through the double-doors, my breath was taken away. I am one of those travelers who has a hard time trusting what I see online. So not only did I research, And this is was our honeymoon trip.....I super researched. I called, I facebooked, I trip advisored. I was over the moon happy to see that my expectations were surpassed! We were greeted with huge smiles by Estaban and Jamie. Justin swiftly grabbed our bags and we were shown to our room. The vegetation is gorgeous and green. The villas are all tucked away in different directions. Our villa was amazing! The quality and attention to detail was top notch. The pool was a perfect refresher! The view of the ocean from our room, indescribable. The waiters/bartenders Esteban, Kaylor, Higel were entertaining, caring, and knowledgeable about attractions and fun things to do. The hostesses Jamie, Clarissa, and Maria were very sweet and accommodating. They were instrumental in us planning what we wanted to do. They even helped us order a vegan pizza! The restaurant food was great! We are vegan and they had no problem shifting the menu for us. They were happy to do so. Chef Jose made the most creative dishes! Our room was always kept impeccably clean. The cleaning crew was gracious and delightful. Managers Andrea and Juan run a tight, well-oiled ship. We became close with all of the staff. We now feel like extended family members!
This place was even more beautiful than we expected. The service was outstanding and the view was something that will stay with me forever! What an amazing experience. We are so very glad we found this place! What a diamond in the rough!
*Thank you Casa Chameleon for everything! You have a beautiful boutique hotel. We were greeted with cool beverages and cool aromatic washcloths and friendly staff. Our many thanks! Our Vila was gorgeous, and I understand they are all unique... but all share one very cool amenity. A plunge pool. Ours was an infinity with a breathtaking rockfall waterfall feature trickling into it. It's situated on a steep hill so it does not have beach access, but the views more than make up for it! We rented an ATV and had a lot of fun accessing the beach this way. The hotel staff was friendly and very accommodating to our every need. Our dinner prepared by Chef Emilio was pricey but outstanding... worth every bite! Emilio takes the time to come and visit with the dinner patrons to talk about the ingredients, preparations, etc. First class! It was our best meal in Costa Rica! Jairo and Kaylor tended to our cocktails and brought a lot of personality and humor to our stay. They were all terrific.... Maria, Esteban... all! The hotel is very romantic and luxurious. The grounds are gorgeous and the amenities are everything you'd expect from a hotel of this caliber. We loved our shower which could be accessed from in or out of the room. We appreciated the canopy on our bed and used it every night to keep the bugs out. There really wasn't a problem with mosquitos or bugs, but the room is designed as indoor/outdoor so the folding patio doors are not completely sealed from the elements when shut. I highly recommend this hotel for a truly unique and first class experience in Mal Pais. Oh, the beach! There is a large section of Playa Carmen (the main beach) which has fine sand far into the multiple breaking waves... perfect for learning to surf! No rocks! None! The town is so cute and fun, has a wonderful bakery and lots of restaurants. Most people get around via atv, bicycles, and motorcycles. Fun vibe! No troubles for us!
My wife and I enjoyed a great and brief getaway at Casa Chameleon. We stayed four days and wished we'd had more time to enjoy and relax even more. We drove from San Jose and took the ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera. When we got to the hotel we were greeted with a nice cold drink and wet towel. Positives: Great staff starting by Andrea's team: Esteban, Kaylor, and specially Jairo were just attentive and friendly all throughout our stay. They even prepared an ice cooler for us to take to the former "secret beach". The villa (villa Camilla) was clean and just so private, we enjoyed not having any other guests within eye sight from our villa. Very private, comfortable and nicely cleaned daily by the maids. The grounds are kept nicely manicured and spotless. Great ocean views and direct contact with the flora and fauna. We also enjoyed a couple's message that was just what amazing. We ate breakfast at the hotel everyday as it was part of our package. They have great options from typical Costa Rican breakfast, oatmeal, pancakes which were yummy!. We also had dinner there which was delicious and the chefs are great and talented. Minor negative: The price for dinner. Again the attention of the staff and the quality of the food are above average but I think it does miss the mark on the price of the food. While we enjoyed our dinner, I think we would have dined more times onsite instead of going out the rest of the nights like we did had the prices being slightly lower. Paying almost $200 for dinner it's not something we were willing to do every night. On the other hand, this allowed us to visit great restaurants like Casa Del Mar, las Piedras, Habaneros and Caracolas. In the end, this was exactly what we were hoping for; a small boutique place with great staff and a quite and relaxing location to unwind for my wife and I. No need for a TV and the wifi was great when we needed to reconnect with technology.
First driving up, I thought I was going to be disappointed but as soon as the beautiful wooden doors swung open, I felt as if I had just walked into heaven. It is the most beautiful hotel and the most wonderful experience I could ever imagine. All I want to do is get back there as soon as I possibly can.
The staff at Casa Chameleon really made our trip special. They went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant and relaxing experience. The food was delicious and both of the chefs went out of their way to remember what we liked and adjust the meals to cater to our likes and dislikes. We really love the staff at Casa Chameleon and will miss them as much as we will miss the country of Costa Rica.
Our room was amazing. The view and private pool were spectacular. The hotel staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was wonderful. If you have an opportunity to stay here, you will not be disappointed.
I am so glad we stayed at Casa Chameleon -- the villas are beautiful, and the view from the hotel is amazing. The staff made our trip even better -- especially Junior and Clarissa, who were both so helpful and welcomed us from the moment we arrived! The highlight of our stay was having the chef prepare an incredible meal for us with yellowfin tuna we caught offshore in Mal Pais -- seriously the absolute best meal and service I could have imagined. If you are staying in Mal Pais, stay at Casa -- you won't regret it!
this hotel is amazing and a great way to get away from everything! Its high up on the hill and in the forest with the monkeys. You should rent an ATV as the roads are nasty and its more fun to be on an ATV anyway. Hotel staff was great, food even better!
