Was worried about the walking distance from hotel to ximending and mrt station, but its in fact very near and manageable. Booked the family room and its relatively huge. 7-11 is juz right below the hotel which is very convenient. Pillows were too soft and not very comfy though. But overall still highly recommended :)
Checked in on Valentine's Day and we were warmly welcomed by Cathy who assisted in helping us check in and even gave us a sweet surprise by asking us to take a picture with heart shaped balloon and I was presented with a rose as well. Check in was fairly quick and she even assured us to check with them if we needed any help. Hotel room was clean with sufficient toiletries. You could even choose different types of pillows from a list. Location is pretty near a train station thus moving around is easy. Hotel is located opposite Ximending. There's a convenience stall located right at ground floor. Breakfast provided by the hotel is pretty okay too. Saw lots of Korean tourists staying in this hotel.
When I arrived this hotel, my friend noticed that he has left his notebook in MRT. He didn't know where he left it. The staff (Tina & Yuonne) helped us. We found it!!! They called the subway station for the lost & found. Thank you so much.
I booked this hotel after my first choice was booked out. Didnt have any high hopes for it. But Just Sleep turned out to be a great choice! We had great location and friendly staff. We had a triple room so it was a big room with a large bathroom and 3 single beds. Lots of room for luggages. And it was doors away from the laundry room too, which we did use twice on the 5 days we stayed here. Hotel is connected to a 7eleven and it was really convenient to grab snacks if you suddenly get hungry. The dining room was also open throughout the days and you get complimentary tea and coffee and snacks. Breakfast was not too bad too.But it gets really crowded at breakfast if you go down after 9am. Hotel is just a street across the very busy ximending area. So it was close enough to the action but far away for a good rest. And there is a really huge anime store called Animate (like those in Den den town in Osaka) at the basement of the building directly opposite the hotel. We only found this place after we spent a whole day at Taipei train station checking out the little anime shops. We will stay here again on our next trip to Taipei!
I can't think of a better location to stay in Taipei if you have never been there before and don't know anyone there. I am from Vancouver and have some colleagues that have family in Taiwan, and even they love this area and want to stay there! It was perfect for my 3 night stay with my cousin. If you want to eat and shop and be able to get around easily, this is the place for you. GETTING THERE: It was easier and cheaper than I expected. We came from the Taoyuan airport, and bought shuttle tickets after getting our luggage and buying a sim card (from Chunghwa which they installed for me and made sure it was working before I walked away). The shuttle was NT$125 each, and took about 50 mins to reach Taipei Main Station MRT. From there, we took a cab which was NT$100 to the hotel and that was about 10 mins, only because the cab driver had to get a translator to figure out where to go! If it wasn't pouring rain, we would have taken the MRT as that was cheaper and only 1 station away. There are only stairs at Ximeng station as others have said, but walking on the busy street with a suitcase wouldn't have been so bad. There is also a special MRT line that takes you from the airport to Taipei Main Station, which we were told by airport staff was free. However, it was also very crowded. LOCATION: The best! We walked across the street everyday to shop and eat. It was always busy, even late at night. It reminded me of Hong Kong. Ximen station was a 5 minute walk away. At the ground level of the hotel was a 7/11 (which is basically on every other block in the city), which had lots of yummy snacks including bbq pork steamed buns. We discovered a section about 2 blocks away that had back to back beef noodle shops, some open 24 hours. ROOMS: The room wasn't large, but I thought their use of space was very smart. I especially liked that the sink, toilet, and shower were all separated. It makes getting ready a lot easier with 2 girls sharing a bathroom. The toilet was confusing to use, but the water pressure in the shower was great. The beds were along the wall but felt far away from each other, and we each had our own desks and chairs to use. There was even an extra nook and pillows in front of the TV and a sitting area on the window. Some people might not like the more modern and minimalist design and layout, but they did a good job of making it very comfortable. Honestly, I didn't even notice the other guests staying in the other hotel in the building, and I really appreciated all the little things they did to make this hotel nice to stay in. SERVICE: We didn't get our room cleaned during the stay, just because my cousin prefers to not have anyone coming in and out of our room. However, one afternoon when we were just coming back from shopping, one of the staff (he was not a housekeeper) knocked on the door and asked if we would like towels. I said yes and also asked for more coffee. He came back with double the towels and coffee that I had requested, and I could hear him running down the hall to get them for me. On the inside of the front door to the room, they provide magnetic signs for you to place on the outside to let them know if you would like your room cleaned, etc. I was very happy with the service as everyone was polite and spoke very good English. All the housekeepers smile in the hallways and the free breakfast was a pleasant surprise. It actually sort of ruined my eating plans for the day because I would eat a full breakfast and that made a bit more difficult to gobble down all the yummy food this city has to offer! Overall, I was very happy with this hotel and would stay here again. Originally I wanted to book a different one that was cheaper, as 3 nights here was about NT$11,800. It was worth it and a very welcome change from staying in some not so nice places in Guangzhou beforehand. I have recommended it to a friend who is going to Taipei soon, and would recommend it to anyone else going there!
Stayed one night at Just Sleep Ximending, despite the room is small the location is really convenient. Staff there are friendly and helpful, especially Johny who helped us with our check-out. Would recommend Just Sleep to my friends as this brand means quality to me.
Room I was arranged to live in room 911. They should not use the room number as it reminds me of the 911 incident. The design of the room was a big problem, although the interior finishing was modern. The shower area and the toilet were separated, which should be an advantage. Nevertheless, since there was no such thing called bathroom, we could only either changed in the shower area or in the open area outside after bathing, which means you would either get wet or be physically exposed to your roommate, which was embarrassing if you are not sharing the room with your family. The automated toilet had a flushing problem, which might be clogged if you flush more than 3 pieces of tissue. Breakfast The breakfast was fine, without an excellent taste but with satisfactory variety of food. Staff The reception staff was nice, and they could help post postcard for you free of charge if you already stick a stamp. Security The hotel occupied several floors of a mixed-use building. The first few floors of the building were offices, while the upper floors were occupied by another hotel. Different tenants all use the same lift, which means strangers could also access the floor you live on. We once took the lift to a wrong floor which does not belong to the hotel. When the lift door opened, we were surprised by the amount of junk items mainly consisting of wood boards accumulating in the lift lobby, which raised questions about the free flow of evacuation routes and fire safety.
Great value for money. Superb location for MRT, shopping and eating streets. Smart, clean, modern rooms. Great breakfast fast wifi. Could not ask for more. Friendly helpful staff. We would come back again anytime
Just stayed at Just Sleep Ximending for 4 nights and checked out yesterday. Was raining every single day and we borrowed umbrellas from the Front Desk everyday. Firstly, upon check in at around 8 pm, we were attended to by a young and helpful Korean girl and she was the cutest thing. Even though her Mandarin was not very good, we managed to get by and her giggles and laughter made it all easier. Her colleagues were around to help her, of course. She also helped us to get a table reservation for lunch at Mala Yuanyang Hot Pot (Hankou branch) in a jiffy. We paid in full for our hotel reservation upon check-in and in-room wi-fi is also complimentary. They did not collect deposit either. We were given 2 keycards to our Family room with 2 double beds and went to check out the room and leave our luggage before going out again for dinner. First impression was room was very clean (bed, toilet, bathroom, kettle, sink and carpet) and everything was up to our expectation. Window looked out to the side of another building and we could see the sky when we woke up. Wall plugs - 2 working out of 3, all conformed to international plug standard which means you do not need to bring your travel adaptor along unless you need a converter (step-up/down) for any voltage issues. Of course, don't be like my family members who only brought along their charging CABLES and not the socket. On our first night there, we requested for 1 more pillow for each of us as the existing ones were too soft. Bed and freshly changed linen (there were ironed lines on it) were clean and comfortable. Comforter was so fluffy and warm. After sending us the pillows, the poor attendant had to make another trip to our room when my brother choked the toilet bowl because he threw toilet paper in it after doing a "number 2" [read: poo]. Only after that, we were told to use the washlet and to throw any toilet paper into the bin provided beside the toilet bowl. The toilet seat could also be heated by configuring the washlet control on the right of it. Man, heated toilet seats are a godsend in the cold weather! Normal guest amenities were provided: Hairdryer, torch, pen and pencil, toothbrush, comb, shaving kits, cotton buds, bedroom slippers and dental pick cum floss. 2 in 1 Shampoo/conditioner and shower gel were provided in 2 dispenser tubes inside the shower stall. No bathtub but then, who has the time for a long bath in the Ximending. All you need is a bed to collapse on after a whole day of shopping and eating, right? Shower stall and toilet are separate (which means you cannot shower in the toilet and vice versa) and was wondering why did they design the shower stall's floor to be made with the small tiles instead of standardizing it to all smooth tiles like the toilets until it dawned on me that there was a chance to slip and fall during one's shower because it would be too smooth. Despite having hot showers everyday, I never felt suffocated in the toilet stall which goes to show that they installed powerful exhaust fans in the ceiling to suck out all the hot air and moisture. Our Family room had a digital safe and an empty bar fridge to store your food stuffs. There was also a long table with 4 chairs for your to have your meals, although we used it to play our luggage because our family of 4 adults brought 2 luggage along. My family members used the luggage stand provided. The room which we had did not have any kerbs although space might be a little tight for wheelchair users. But there was ample space for walking although you certainly could not do a waltz in the room without kicking into the bed or wall. As per earlier reviews, hotel is situated within walking distance of Ximending shopping district and there is a 7-11 just beside it. Very convenient for last-minute picking up of those Chun-cui drinks, pineapple pastries, Man-han instant noodles or just some snacks. There is a Shabu shabu Hotpot restaurant (not affiliated to JS in any way) located at Level 2 of the building (not accessible by the hotel's lift though) but I recommend you to give it a miss unless you are looking to eat at a place which has absolutely bad service and mediocre food. Saw taxis and their drivers waiting outside the lobby the numerous times we walked past when we had to go for our sightseeing/shopping/meals. Oh, breakfast is served at level 5 of the hotel. Normal hotel breakfast standard but we got a little tired after eating it for 3 days straight (our room rate had breakfast included). Hotel also provided wi-fi routers for rent. Was quite affordable but we had already rented 1 from Singapore before we came to Taipei. I will definitely come back to stay if I have the chance to come back to Taipei.
