Macleay Lodge

Maclean Lodge is a budget accommodation in the very lovely and affluent inner suburb neighborhood of Potts Point. Since it is a "budget" lodge, things are basic here: Rooms are small, breakfast is not included, and bathrooms are all shared. However, there are TV, min-fridge, and a sink in the room, so basically there are most what I needed there for my 10 days' stay in Sydney. I think the best thing about Maclean Lodge is definitely its location. Potts Point is a leafy neighborhood with a lot of nice residential buildings. There are also quite a few Sydney's best restaurants around (At least 10 of Greater Sydney's TripAdvisor Top 50 restaurants are within 10-15 minutes' walk from here). It is also not far from Kings' Cross Train Station (though the area around Kings Cross is more seedy). There are several good supermarkets and liquor stores nearby. At daytimes, there are also many places for coffee and pastries. Staying at Maclean Lodge, I was able to have a feel of being a Potts Point resident (and Sydneysider), at least for almost 2 weeks. One complaint is that its Wi Fi is very unstable. For the 10 days I stayed there, there were at least 8 days I had problems to access Wi Fi and that did influence my freelancing works. However, the manager was very nice to send me to the lobby of their sister hotel around the corner (which is a more high-end one) to use their Wi Fi. Though I may stay here again, I just hope they can fix their Wi Fi problems.

I wanted: 1) centrally located 2) clean, bright and easy on the eyes 3) under $200 a night I got all three It is a heritage building, recently and tastefully renovated. Thus no elevator. I thought that shared bathroom would be my biggest issue but that was not the case. The shared bath was clean, bright, modern and in 9 days there, I never had to wait. The rooms were not a great place to read a book but a good place to sleep.

Stayed there 2 weeks when looking for a long-term accommodation. Hotels are usually extremely expensive in Sydney, but the prices at Macleay Lodge were actually quite ok for a place located very close to the city center. The rooms are clean and pretty nice. There are a mini-fridge, a microwave in every room. Too bad it says "free wifi" whereas it is actually very limited.

Location is prime in Potts point, lots of fancy schmancy places to grab a bite in the area. A quick walk and you're in Kings Cross. My room was smaller than a shoe box but you're getting what you pay for and I suppose it is Sydney. Things are tight! Bed was amazing. But that's cause I had an afternoon nap. I didn't actually ended up spending the night here cause I got lucky at the club, wooohooo! :-) Found it weird that their were shared bathrooms and not included in the rooms. But they were clean and good! I'd stay again if necessary.

The room was maybe a bit basic, but it had everything I needed for my stay (a small desk, TV, fridge, kettle, some cutlery, and a sink). A minor annoyance was that the bathrooms are shared and really quite small (at least the one closest to my room). The best aspect of the lodge was the location. It is fairly centrally located and I was able to walk everywhere I wanted (which I always enjoy to do in a new city).

Better than expected. Quiet and secure location up Macleay st. Clean and compact room, with kettle/coffee, fridge, m/wave, sink, comfortable bed. No 311 bus stops nearby. Kings Cross station is a short walk. Clean modern toilet/excellent showers are a few steps from any room. A Woolworths nearby, with lots of good cheap eating a few hundred metres towards Kings Cross.

First of all I understand this is a 2 star hotel, so I wasn't expecting nothing too great, having said that, there are minimum standards for any hotel specially in a first world country as Australia. First we got a room with views to the extremely noisy boiler (room number 3, avoid it when making a booking....) we could barely sleep that night, that's not acceptable for any place, not matter how bad it is, if you can't sleep what's the point? The day after we asked to be moved to another room. It still had no views and was noisy but not so much, they went from one star up to two stars when we moved... but then...There were cockroaches. And noise, lots of noise either from others guests, boilers out in the patio or the cleaner moving the bins before the sun had come out. The shared bathroom was at least clean and the receptionist was really helpful moving us another room, However I don't recommend this place unless you're under 25 and a backpacker.

The guy on the front desk is really rude. the lodge you can not have visitors come up. I would highly recommend to not stay here at all because it just is not a friendly environment. I would highly recommend stay at a backpackers or just somewhere else in general over here. Not happy at all, will 100% not be back any time soon or at all.

These lodges are situated in a good central location in the heart of Sydney. Clean and tidy with all the essentials needed, including a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. There were only two points to highlight about this place is that: 1) They don't have any lifts, so carrying luggage up the stairs is required. 2) The rooms have a shared shower room (shower, toilet and sink) with other guests. A supermarket is situated a couple of minutes up the road for all your provisions.

I stayed here with a friend for 4 nights. It is in a great position. There is a supermarket a few doors up and plenty of restaurants cafes and pubs within easy walking distance. The train station is an easy 5-10 minute walk. The staff at the lodge were all friendly and helpful. The rooms are not fancy but they have a bar fridge sink microwave kettle toaster and tv. You have a shared bathroom but I never had any issues with waiting. The one near my room was quite small but the one up the passage was a bit roomier. If you're looking for something in a backpackers price range but with a bit more privacy this is a great place to choose.
