This hotel has two buildings - the newer rooms are in the building across the street and accessed by an underground tunnel from the older building where reception is based. This review is of a room in the newer building. The room we booked was a standard double in the older building but when the TV would not work we were upgraded. The newer room was of a good size providing all standard facilities expected of a good hotel. It offered a comfortable stay. A good breakfast was served in the older part of the hotel.
The room was dark, small, old and simply boring. But clean and with a good coffee maker. The hotel has a good location, but there's at least a dozen hotels with equally good location in Sundsvall. Once you arrive, double-check where your room is - some are located in a different building than the reception. Good breakfast though and helpful staff, but I really didn't like the room.
We stayed at first hotel for 2 nights. The hotel was clean as was our room that had a view over looking the water. There was no iron in the room and the shower gel was empty but after a quick phone call they were fixed and on Saturday a bowl of fruit and chocolates were placed in our room. Breakfast was very good they even had HP sauce. Breakfast was from 7-10.30 but the food was still there till 11.30, the staff were very helpful and polite. I would stay there again if I’m ever in Sundsvall
This hotel is nicely situated close to the towns center. Just a few minutes walk from the main shopping streets and restaurants. The reception is being refurbished so there is a temporary entrance on the side of the building. The reception, bar and restaurant area are nice and cosy. The breakfast buffet is good with enough choice for everybodies taste. The room was a dissappointment. It is dark and backdated. One of the room blinds was broken, the bed was worn with a dent in the middle, the temporary entrance door downstairs sqeeks and slams which unfortunately was clearly audible in my room, the doors of the rooms slam shut so you continuously hear other guests entering/leaving their rooms. The drain of the shower can’t handle all the water causing the floor to be wet and there is no floor towel to take care of it so you stand in the water on cold tiles. The towel heater was not working. I missed a vanity set and a complentary bottle of water would have been nice. The service at the desk was good, but a smile doesn’t hurt. All in all there is much room for improvement.
Its a good hotel with big rooms. They are clean but little bit old. They have kitchen with everything you need to cook with on the third floor. Its walk distens to everything city, baltic sea casino....
The old hotel is by a busy traffic road with no air condition in rooms, therefore warm and humid inside rooms if keep windows closed. If open window, then forget about sleeping. Not recommended for those who want to have comfortable stay in beautiful Sundsvall.
Stayed for one night. Very happy with everything at the hotel. Room was clean and bed comfortable. No noise from the street below. Bathroom tiles a bit dated but clean and everything worked well. Really good breakfast with lots of variety of hot and cold food and hot and cold drinks. Nice location 1 minutes walk from the town square and casino.
The best I will say about this hotel is that kits central in town and you dont need a car at all. Its something between a mid of the road business sleeper and a budget family place with all the drawbacks of both. Not so sober business people, conference facilities everywhere trying to portray a family aspect but I have never seen families there. Its expensive too, I just looked now on a Friday its as expensive as Elite Hotel Knaust which is faaaaaaaaaar better on every single point and I mean several stars better. I stayed in this hotel at least 5 times in the last 5 years and none of them have been a pleasant stay. Smells, should we say can occur and they dont assist the pleasant experience. Distance to many rooms are long and through basement corridors. Rooms are not very comfortable and they are very small for a town like Sundsvall size should for sure not be rationed like this. Sleep and bed quality, low. Beds not comfortable at all and I have never been able to sleep staying here. Its relative expensive and I have never had a cost that I would have been happy to pay, its always been 30-40% higher than what I thought was value for money. One good thing my wife tells me when we gone here, she likes the breakfast because they serve Nutella and thats as much as I will say positive here.
I experienced none of the negative things some reviewers are warning about - our room was tidy, clean, spatious, and comfortable. Excellent double bed and best hotel room TV I've seen (was probably a 32" full HD or something like that). Breakfast was good as well and there is a well equipped gym, sauna, and (apparently soon) pool available. Location is great, 5 min walk from the train and just on the edge of the city centre ("Stenstaden") with all its restaurants and beautiful buildings. The only negative thing was that the room's main vent was of a strange model that was very noisy (we stuffed it with a couple of socks to quiet it down so we could sleep).
Someone told me to avoid this hotel, but after staying there one night I cant see why that would be the case. The rooms are not large, but fully equiped with a very comfy bed, clean, quiet and nice. I had a really good night sleep at Stand Hotel. Staff is friendly and attentative, althou we had to wait a bit on service in the bar. Breakfast is not what it used to be 20 years ago, but all the good stuff is there for a hearty brekkie. Parking is a bit rough, a lot of road construction in the area, but one can find a parking spot on the street. The hotel is situated close to bars and small resturants for those who wanna go out and eat. Also close to Casino Cosmopol if you are in for that. I can recommend this hotel, well worth the buck and I will stay here again the next time I visit the city.
